Was going with titanium going to backfire for Apple?

it's likely one of those colors.(the scratched ones I saw in Apple store were all black/blue ones specially blacks)

this reminds me of iPhone 5 launch..not sure how many people remember but the iPhone 5 "slate black" color was also prone to scratches..really bad..(scuffgate)

and what happened? when Apple released the next model (5S which looked exactly the same) the scratch problem was suddenly resolved.

and we all remember the iPhone 6 Plus bending issue.it was real.many denied.but then the Apple resolved the issue with iPhone 6s.

I'm sure the iPhone 16 Pro will eliminate this problem.
It reminds me of every launch of a black stainless steel iPhone Pro model over the past few years where people scratch the finish with keys, post photos of it on social media, and people who don’t intend to buy the phone fill pages and pages with comments about it.

Tim Cook could defecate in a pretty box, slap an Apple logo on it, and many people on this forum would defend him. They would cite the huge number sold and Apple's massive profits as proof that it is a good product. Heck, people still defend his decision to include USB 2.0 on the non-Pro iPhone 15. So to answer the OP's question, however bad a decision it was to use titanium, it likely won't backfire on Apple. There's too many people who will gladly buy whatever extortionately priced subpar product that Tim Cook lazily releases.

I went from iPhone 6s Plus to 15 pro Max, they are almost the same size, except the PM is all screen, and they weigh the same. The weight of the past max iPhones is why I never upgraded. Why would anyone want a heavy, clunky phone? The finish is awesome; have the Apple transparent case, love it!

We'll see when I get my 15PM Natural Titanium and compare it to my 14PM.

Personally I think it was a good move. The lighter phone appealed to me and got me to upgrade from the 14Pro.

I still have both phones, need to send the 14 back for trade in but they are both really nice.

The titanium is easier to one hand, not as wide, lighter, feels good in the hand. I also like the matte black titanium over the glossy stainless steel. Battery on the 15Pro is so much better than my dying 14Pro (worst capacity degradation ever). The action button is good too, especially since I leave my phone on vibrate basically permanently so it’s nice to have something more useful there.

I can feel where the glass and titanium meet a bit more than I noticed on the 14Pro. That’s really the only thing I don’t love about the phone.

Coming from 14PM, the weight differential in 15PM is SIGNIFICANT. It is much more pleasant holding it, and this is coming from someone who certainly did not mind the weight of the 14PM. It’s noticeable, but the even bigger surprise is the utility of the action button. I’ve made a shortcut that is dynamic based on focus mode, and it’s an absolute game changer. Having a programmable button on iPhone is something I did not know I needed, and something I cannot live without now.

Using a phone while driving is not inheritally dangerous. Being stupid in the way you use your phone while driving is. Just likely it is a misconception that speeding is automatically dangerous. If this one were true then the Germans would have not still have sections of the autobahn that have no speed limits. And truth be told the phone laws have the potential to make phone use during driving more dangerous. People now text with the phone below the level of their dash so cops are less likely to see them using it. If you send a quick text one handed with your phone at the top of the steering wheel, your peripheral vision still sees what is happening on the road. And especially with swype, I personally can text one handed and only occasionally glance at the screen.
Keep telling yourself that buddy:

Or rather, don’t. Please stop putting people at risk by being an idiot on the roads.

If you ever visit the UK please don't drive. It will keep me and my family safe from you and may prevent you from a 10 or 12 year stretch in prison if you kill someone while driving with a phone in your hand.
maybe you should read my other posts before commenting. i already said i dont hold it while driving. i use it at the red light, which is perfectly legal.

i have also driven in UK with no problems

You should try the iPhone SE 3. That thing is as light as a feather. It’s a game changer.

I think colourised titanium was a mistake… Just leave it as natural Ti
Agreed. Just like the iPhone 4. Both black and white have natural colored stainless steel and it looks awesome. Maybe next year.

The problem is not the Titanium itself , it’s the way color is applied to the titanium. Perhaps Apple needs to research this better

I’m not talking about Youtube torture tests.
No one is using keys in Apple Store to scratch them.they got scratched by normal handling.finger nails.in just few days.this is a flawed finish.
Not sure why you want to defend it.to feel better? look how many complains are here and on other forums from actual users.

its no different from holding a Starbucks cup, or eating a sandwich while driving.
Firstly, Starbucks? 🤢

Secondly, I cannot eat a sandwich while driving because I prefer to enjoy my sandwiches without having to watch out for these double parked, lane straddling, sudden u-turning idiots that seem to be the only ones on the roads here in NYC.

the only negative imo is the colors. i hope its just apple having a brain fart. if they're stuck with crap colors every year because of whatever ridiculous method they have for making the frame then it was a bad choice.
The colour choices in the Pros are hyper bland because people that are woed by the specs and cameras and big screens will buy them regardless, while they leave attractive colors for the cheaper range so people that will not spend over a grand on a phone still find them wildly attractive compared to the competition.

Stainless Steel, Titaninum, FineWoven - fancy materials like these are great to flaunt, but bring less value to everyday usage.

Ti is of course lighter than SS, but there is nothing wrong with "lowly" aluminum. iPhone is a computer and I'd always take improvements to those specs - 256GB base storage at lower price, 67W charging (charger included), better thermals, better lens flares coating, etc.

Wrong. If you’re holding the phone you’re looking at it. I can hold a cup and even take a sip while keeping my eyes on the road, not on the cup.

I’m not talking about YouTube torture tests either. Have you missed every iPhone launch of the past 2 or 3 years?

Genius move IMO.

Batteries and phones will just get heavier and heavier with new features and more powerful cameras every year. Titanium will mitigate the weight issue for quite some time now.

Android competitors don't have the cash or cojones to go titanium to save weight as their phones also get heavier every year. They never even adopted stainless steel for the premium feel and strength. I have a feeling Android will go back to plastic or that hybrid plastic thing Samsung was trying to get away with with their S21 and other flagship Samsungs. And they will charge full MSRP for that plastic smartphone too guaranteed.

This will be very interesting lol

You seem to think that titanium is lighter than aluminum. It's actually much heavier. Besides, titanium is a really bad choice for heat generation devices (as smartphones) because it dissipates heat very poorly. Use of titanium may turn out to be a major mistake by Apple. It looks like they really wanted to use it for PR purposes hence heavy use of "titanium" in their commercials even though the case is not really even made of titanium. Titanium is used just as in encrustation. But even with this limited use we are already seeing mounting reports about heat problems. Based on that Samsung design (aluminum alloy) might prove to be a much better choice.
