Was going with titanium going to backfire for Apple?

The point is that those (mostly low end crap) phones have not been "making the market." Apple is and has been the vendor making money, that others are chasing.
The line of conversation was how comedic the iPhone weighed then I pointed to 68 phones heavier than it was. Then it became what brands shipped the most units of phones in the world.

Not whether Apple siphons over 80% of the smartphone profits.

guess everyone has different tastes but I love that the titanium is closer to aluminum. hell, I wish it *was* matte anodized aluminum. have you seen the non-pro models? fingerprint-free.

i'll never get the "stainless steel feels so premium" crowd. i want my phone to feel light and practical. not jewelry that needs to be babied in a case.

Let’s be honest.

Lots of people buy the latest greatest iPhone and want everyone to know they have it! Having it look like aluminum takes away that value in spending the extra cash.

As much as the boxy garishly shiny SS pros looked, Everyone could tell what you had, and by the camera array and from Dynamic Island you could instantly figure out what they had. This year was a miss! They should have just colored the lens rings and the glass back and rocked all pros with bare titanium. That would have worked.

They should have got the high end women who designed those craptastic fine woven monstrosities and had her do the styling of the phone as - she - definitely gets it but she could only do so much damage - so perfect! And they should have got the team that were too practical designing the exterior of the Pro phones and had them design the cases and accessories.

That’s my take on the matter…

Holding my 14 pro max and 15 pro max at the same time, yea, the 14 definitely feels more premium due to the weight and that cold stainless in your hand. Maybe it’s something everyone has to get used to, everyone wanted a lighter phone, now that we have it people are still mad lol. The good thing is next year the phones will be bigger and heavier so they should feel more premium again haha. Along with that they could polish the frame next year so they have a more premium look like the stainless, and bring some better colors as well. Hello orange iPhone 16 ultra, I’m looking at you, and yes, those are lasers in my eyes.

Well the problem with titanium coating is it very easily scratches and this is no joke,I went to Apple store today to see the new iPhones and many of them on display were heavily scratched already.that's no good and you just can't pretend it's none issue.
I have a 13PM and I welcome lighter weight of titanium but not at the cost of being so easily scratch-able.

I’m not impressed with the titanium. I’ve had my new iPhone 15 Pro in an Apple Silisone case since release day. When I took my case off, I notice some minor discoloration/scratches on the edges already. Patina? Yep.
I think everything is going to scratch at some point. For my iPhone 14 Pro, the stainless steel bezels were scratched and I kept it in the Apple Leather case. I am very careful with my phones.

For me the iPhone is a tool and I don’t take my case off to inspect my phone. The case comes off next year when I trade it in for the 16 Pro. I think if you want a perfect iPhone buy one to use and one to look at in it’s original box!

I can say now with certainty that the new titanium coating SUCKS.it's so weak and sensitive vs Stainless steel.such a bad decision from Apple.

just look at this drop test comparison 14 Pro vs 15 Pro

wow even in a case?
that's very worrying!

You ain’t seen nothing yet!

Back in the day, in university, I use to bicycle race (was invited to ride with the national team). Anyway, we were experimenting with replacing steel parts with titanium to save weight. So I replaced the two large pivot pins on the rear derailleur with these new anodized titanium parts (Super Campagnolo back then). Looked real good and worked until I wiped out on asphalt. The parts looked like gouges were taken off. By experience the steel ones would have faired way, way better. But I have to add they still worked - they just looked like crap!

I put the steel pins back on. I wish I could show you a photo of it. I was flying down the road when it happened so this won’t be your typical phone accident - but man!!!!!

You sure you’re certain?? You apparently saw every iPhone 15 pro in the Apple Store scratched and now you’ve watched a video of someone destroying 2 perfectly good iPhones. Just want to make sure you are certain that titanium is real bad??

Do those same tests with any phone and to varying degrees they will be f***ed.

Maybe Apple will realize that titanium was a mistake, and we’ll get FineWoven bands instead on the iPhones next year.

I hear you. I only took the case off to swap to another.

I do that sometimes too when I’m trying to find the best case to use and that’s how I noticed my 14 Pro scratches, but that maybe happens 2-3x a year. Hopefully the scratches aren’t too bad 😀

not sure what's your point is,ofcourse I watch the videos, because I'm considering buying one and heard all the complains + see the scratches with my own eyes in Apple store.you want the truth censored?
I didn't say every iphone in store were scratched I said many of them.(black and blue ones)
maybe I should have taken pictures.
did people in Apple store also torture test them like in the videos? I don't think so.they were just scratched by normal handling in just a few days after launch.
that's bad.
also you can clearly see in the video,it's just a drop test.and the stainless steel holds up very well, the titanium is very venerable.

everything will scratch, but some scratch MUCH EASIER and MUCH FASTER than others.

my stainless steel 13 Pro Max is pristine after 22 months.we have a user here saying her/his 15 Pro already has scratched while inside silicone case! just after few days.

many 15 Pro/ProMs in Apple store were heavily scratched.NEVER saw this on 13 or 14 Pro series.

This material is NOT durable at all.

lighter, yes but very weak and (imo) not nearly as nice looking as stainless steel.

I understand what you are saying, but here is another unscientific anecdote. My year old Apple Watch Ultra doesn’t have 1 scratch on the Titanium body. No case, working out including running, biking, hiking, and some minor brushes with walls and doors.

dudes gonna be mad for a long time cause theres no way they're going back to stainless steel anytime soon lmao

I know, one of my family members also has the Watch Ultra since launch and it's in mint condition.no scratches.
but they're clearly not the same.it could be a different grade/alloy of titanium..not sure.
the reality is there are so many of these phones already scratched.reddit and other forums are full of pictures.and like I said I saw many of them with my own eyes in Apple store.
I didn't see anyone complaining about the watch Ultra.

Yeah definitely weird. I love Stainless and also Titanium so I don’t really care what material these use. Wonder if the poster with the scratch from a case had a blue or black iPhone?

That is because there is really no pleasing this community. Apple enthusiasts are some of the most entitled people on Earth. I've been saying that for years now. They will quite literally search for things to complain about. Many don't really seem to know what they actually want, beyond owning the latest phone on release day every year.

There will always be excessive nitpicking & complaints over the most trivial of things, even though those same posters will continue to lineup for every release. We've already had a few threads of people essentially breaking out magnifying glasses & searching for the slightest imperfections on the phone out of the box.

The weight issue was discussed ad nauseam for the past year. Now that Apple has finally addressed it, people are now complaining about the durability, the feel, & the finish. I'm looking forward to all the iPhone 16 rumors to start so the cycle can begin anew.
