Unfortunately, it wasn't worth wasting 7 minutes, let alone over 2 hours.

When the biggest cheers came from the intro of automated-emojis, it pretty much settled it for me that I'm clearly not part of Apple's target market anymore.

Umm, I understand what you are saying, I'm in the same boat. However, how can I not be Apple's target market? In the last few years I've purchased iPhone 4s, 5, and 6. iPad 2 and Air 2. MacBook Pro 2011 and 2014. Mac Pro 2010, Mac Mini, iMac. Apple TV 3rd and 4th generation. I've been a faithfully loyal customer for years, since the PowerPC era in fact. I'm eagerly waiting, with money in hand, for the iPhone 7, Apple Watch 2, Apple TV 5th gen, and MacBook Pro 2016. Where are they?

How the heck can a broke teenager or college student be the new target market?

I posted a similar thought on another article so I apologize for being redundant, but I really think they set themselves up for failure with these big dramatic presentations. Unless there's something really big to show off why not just make an announcement online? Or simply post a video? It seems like they're stuck in these yearly cycles now and force themselves to come up with ideas to justify a new name for macOS or a new whole number for iOS. I would be perfectly satisfied if next summer they just posted the info online for iOS 10.5 or whatever number they're at. Sure these new features are nice but are they worth all the drama?

I guess I may be in the macrumors minority, but I'm pretty happy with almost everything that was announced.

We get key features built into iOS that I've been wanting from android for years.

I actually might want an Apple Watch after finding it to be a redundant Notification Center for years.

MacOS was the most lackluster (for me), but we are being given enough with iOS and watch os that I'll be happy as a clam to get these features.

Perhaps I'm particularly happy since I was pretty resolved with sticking with my 6s plus for two years, something unprecedented for me. After this keynote I really will have to be wowed with any hardware coming at me with the next phone.

In short, another OS that DAWs can't catch up to for bug-free stability (fellow protoolers, and seriously, a new ****ing OS every year now?)... They'll never be as stable as pre-Cook era operating systems. Windows circa 1998. Whoop-Dee-Doo. No new hardware. I'm building an LGA 2011v3 pc. My studio is growing faster than a cutting edge smartphone peddler, so time to bite the Windows bullet.

It sucks, because I remember I became a member of this site when I bought and became obsessed with my first Mac, an '06 Core Duo iMac after going to grade school on coloured iMacs. Imagination is dead. Time to get to business and make the switch.

I hope China's ride sharing gives Apple that kind of loyalty. (I'm just pissed about no new hardware and the clown show they provided.)

I'm ok with it. What's more worthwhile is the experience having more than one device and seeing continuity updates. I may get a few homekit devices but I can't imagine the mainstream is really into that yet. I do like how the Watch can unlock Mac. Copy and pasting between devices, and that sort of stuff I'd like to see more of.

Was kinda hoping for a devices app for mac & iOS.

I like Siri for some things. Will I like it on the imac or macbook? For some things perhaps but don't see using it much.

Apple appeared to be focusing the event on mainstream stuff they can market more easily. The job at the event is to sell it to the media first. I suppose they love emoji and that junk.

Some things are probably still up in the air awaiting hardware announcements such as dark mode. Macbook pros get the rumored led panel and I'm guessing touch ID. Personally i'd love an iphone 7 plus with pencil but don't see upgrading otherwise especially if the same screen.

I can see what you are saying, but in a studio setting you wouldnt be upgrading the OS willy nilly - and the windows 10 auto updates 'feature' is actually a larger nightmare than being able to control point releases on macOS. Cant believe I'm remotely defending Apple after last nights kick in the face to OS X users though.

Absolutely agree with you on hardware, it's absolutely shocking what Apple has become. Charging a premium for generations old hardware. I'm glad I've been hackintoshing for most of my needs, but even so I always keep in touch with the linux word as an escape route.

Apple's focus on OS X has been horrible, and last night just showed their attitude and focus perfectly. OS X is an after thought. At the very least if they could be standards compliant with EVERYONE else in the world and implement the likes of Vulkan it wouldve been a better announcement than anything else they did.

What is with the negativity? This is one of the better keynotes in recent history. Apple brought a lot of cool things to iOS 10, watchOS 3, and macOS 10.12. All of these updates will only improve the user experience across all Apple devices.

Loved the Cliff Notes version of the Keynote...it avoided me from having to hear the fanbios screaming 'Woot, woot!!!", or 'yeaaaah!!!' or 'oooohhhh!!!' with every announcement no matter how minor. Pandering to the camera ...or microphone..at an Apple event is now SOP....and has become almost comical.

BTW...did the Cliff Notes version of the Keyonte delete all the new hardware announcements? ;)

are you watching a WWDC I am not aware of?

TO be fair... the only way to make this better if Apple allows you to send multiple heart-rate to all your contacts at once.

Yes, it's a shame. I'm not going to be the "if Jobs was still around" guy, because I know Jobs would have followed the dollar signs too. It's enough just to say that the Apple we used to love doesn't exist anymore.

I want the company that made the G4 iMac and the 12" Powerbook back.

Same here, though not that much stuff. I guess that just demonstrates how far ahead Apple really was and how poor the competition is. I don't have much hope for Apple's future at this point, but I'm guessing it will be a while until things get bad enough that I have to make the jump to something else. Maybe it will be some new innovative company? Or, M$ has been improving a lot, IMO (aside from the ad/spy ware stuff.... and can they survive without mobile?).

Unfortunately, it isn't just teenagers and college students that are attracted to that stuff... but even so, have you seen one without at least an iPhone? But, what I mean is that Apple hasn't just added mobile, they're leaving behind desktop (which is what I and many long-time Apple/Mac folks are). I like mobile too, but I didn't expect them to move to mobile only.

I guess I may be in the macrumors minority, but I'm pretty happy with almost everything that was announced.

I think many of us are looking for some attention to the Mac side of things, and need more than emojis on mobile. Yes, they did include a few things like even better continuity between devices. That's nice, I guess, as far as it goes. The rest was kind of silly.

Yea, the thought has been crossing my mind. I don't think it's gotten quite that bad yet. But, if you operate in certain areas, I can see how that might be what you have to do at this point to get good pro hardware. Apple makes some great hardware, but it simply isn't keeping up on the pro side any longer... no matter the price.

Absolutely agree with you on hardware, it's absolutely shocking what Apple has become. Charging a premium for generations old hardware. I'm glad I've been hackintoshing for most of my needs, but even so I always keep in touch with the linux word as an escape route.

They're making some great hardware... it just isn't pro hardware anymore. I guess the one glimpse of hope I have is that with TB3 coming, we might see some good 3rd party expansion outside the box possibility (i.e.: eGPU, etc.). But, unless Apple gets their act together on the software side of things, the hardware complaints are going to be a moot point.

Actually, I don't think the crowd was all that wow'd either, except for the emoji-text replacement stuff. There were a couple of points I feared the presenters might have to resort to Jeb Bush's, 'please clap'.

My advice, next time, is that Tim should replicate Developers 3 or 4 times on that slide and then jump around the stage shouting it over and over again. With the direction this is headed, he could get ahead of the curve that way.

I seriously don't get all the hate. Here's what I think Apple did very well:
-Universal Clipboard: Cut Copy Paste across all Apple devices (Can I do this w/ Android + Chromebook natively?)
-Apple Watch Mac Unlock: Very convenient to unlock Mac with Apple Watch
-Storage Optimization for Mac
-Siri Improvements and Siri API for developers
-Delete Stock apps (not just disable or hide)
-New refreshed lock screen and rich notifications
-New Home app to control smart home from one central location
-VoIP API for calling apps
-Some, not all, of the new messages features
-Split view for Safari on iPad
-iCloud Drive desktop sync across iOS and all your Macs
-iCloud Drive Document folder sync across all devices
-Apple Pay in Safari
-More 3D Touch implementation across iOS 10
-Scribble for Apple Watch to reply to texts
-Refined UI on Apple Watch with less taps and scrolls to accomplish tasks
-Instant apps
-Dock feature on Apple Watch for easy app access
-Improved app load times
-SOS feature for emergencies on  Watch
-Control Center for  Watch
-Collaborative Notes
-Auto add Calendar events from Messages and Email
-Redesigned News and Music apps

Sure, they didn't do everything right, but this is a great step forward and provides a lot of great features that I will definitely take advantage of.

It didn't make the keynote, but that actually happened. (Or it's happening in any case)

Yea, I noticed that. I'd think that would be more important to developers than a 20 minute demo of emojis and animated bubbles... but I guess I'm kind of old-school.

Yes, he would. BUT, he was smart enough to recognize that making great products (and that actually being more than a left-over marketing slogan) brought the dollars, and the ability to command many times the industry standard in profit margins. This is going to be a sad demise to witness. :(
