The life span of a watch battery depends on the age and quality of the watch, as well as its functions and how often those functions are used also the duration of usage (how heavely you use it )

Battery Performance; 38 mm

i tried everything, like turning off specific battery draining settings etc... and still not quite sure if the battery is normal on my 38mm because i only get maximum 12-14 hours even doing very little with the watch. i deleted the calendar and heartrate glances and disabled hey siri. its my 5th day with the watch. i dont know if i should return the watch for another.

can more people share their battery experience of an 38mm AW?

I do everything with my Sports Gray 38 mm and have had great battery performance. I've made zero adjustments (to save battery usage), wear it all day (7 am - midnight or later), workout (including cycling 1-3 hours), calls, texts, etc. and always seem to have about 50% left at night before charging. I've been using it every day since I got it on May 4th. Perhaps, something is wrong with your watch. Why not call Apple or stop by an Apple Store to address your battery issues?

----------

I had been complaining about bad watch battery life up the thread. It just so happens that I accidentally smashed my iPhone and I had it replaced over the weekend via AppleCare Plus.

Since then, my watch battery life has been much better. I have reached 11 hours since taking it off the charger, and remaining percentage is over 60% whereas previously I would be lukcy to have 30% at this stage.

How did you accidentally smash your iPhone?
Did you "armor up" your :apple: watch prevent a similar experience?

I have a 42mm and my wife has a 38mm. We seem to be having very different battery experiences.

I've had mine since launch and she got hers last week. As far as I can tell we use the watch quite similarly with neither of us using it significantly more than the other. We also get up and go to bed just about the same time.

On average for the past 5 days (7am wake-11pm bed):

42mm - 30-40% at end of day

38mm - 10-15% at end of day

That's about a 20% or more difference in battery drain. I wouldn't think that the 38mm's smaller battery would provide 20% less power per day - seems odd.

Are your settings the same? I have a 38mm and keep the same hours as you and your wife, 7am-11pm. I have only once went to bed with less than 40%. It was a day I used the tracker for a 2 1/2 hour outdoor cycle ride. That day it took a dramatic hit and I was left with 14%.
I have hey Siri on, brightness at full, haptic at full and prominent haptic on. On average I get 30-40 notifications/texts per day and an occasional short phone call. I'm still on Watch OS 1.0 and the Heart Rate reads every 10 minutes.

We are on similar settings but she does had prominent haptic on (I don't). Medium brightness, Hey Siri is on.

We both have been doing about 45 minute workouts using the Activity tracker per day.

I have done a hard reset of her watch also - didn't seem to improve anything.

Does she have more apps loaded? More interaction (background communication to apps) from her phone?

I have tested both watches with same settings too.
I was a bit shocked, how much better the 42mm is.
My 38mm was at 20-30% at the end of day and my 42mm didnt got under 60%. Normaly the 42 is at 65-70% at the end of day. I use it two days before charge.
I was thinking that my 38mm maybe was faulty but your experience seems to be the same.

So I got my watch last night, used it for a few hours, then went to bed, putting the watch on the charger. Took it off the charger about 11:30am today (100% battery). Haven't done a whole lot on it (did a 5 minute GPS run, looked at a few texts) and now it's 1:00pm and it is at 92%. Is that normal for the Watch?

Don't get to excited after only 1 1/2 hours of using your new watch. You used 8% in that time which would put you on track for 18+ hours. Give yourself a week with the watch before you start worrying about battery life, chances are you won't have a problem.

(42mm SG received yesterday) Today is the first day I started my day with 100%. At 1pm, it was 40%. I switched to power reserve when it reached 10% around 4:30pm.

I work in office all day and no workouts at all.

Very worried about battery life, will observe another 2 days before I go to Apple Store on Sunday.

battery issue

Hi everyone!
yesterday arrived my brand new apple watch 38 mm space gray. Gourgeus!!
But i'm already worried about battery life. I unplagged it at 6.00 a.m. at 100% (of course) and now it's 12.30 a.m. (here in Italy) ad the battery level is 21%. I only checked 5/6 notifications and nothing special more.
Someone says it coud be normal for the second day life of the device. but i'm not so sure!
Please help me....if u can!
Thx a lot

I switched phones again on Tuesday and have noticed significant battery drain with my new phone. I've gone from a 64GB 6+ to a 64GB 6 to a 128GB 6 to a 128GB 6+ in the last two weeks. Had no issues with the other three phones, but with the 128GB 6+ its pretty bad. Like 1% a minute. Not even looking at it. I'm thinking a restore is in order, and not using the 10W iPad charger anymore. I'm usually at ~30% by 10:00 PM, but yesterday I went to Power Reserve by 4:00 PM. Strange. Turned off Hey Siri, turned off heartbeat, animations and transparency etc and had no effect on it.

I would give it couple of days. Mine was great on the very first day (42mm SSG) and moderate to heavy user, all the features enabled and full brightness, have never seen it go below 20%. From 5am to 22-23pm.

Did that help? I just got a new phone and my watch was dead by 5pm. I've never had that happen before. Usually it's at 40% when I go to sleep.

I can't vote in the poll yet because I haven't yet gotten through a full day of ownership but I'm at 42% at 1:30 pm when I got up an hour later than usual this morning.

42mm SS Batterylife is great.
Used it three days Now with one charge.
Over night switched to power reserve.
3% now.
12 Hour useage and 33 hours standby.
This is really good.

My 38mm only lasts for one day with 20-30% at the end.

Brought my charger to work, 100% at 7:00AM MT, unplugged (unmagnetized? Lol) and it is at 61%. So 4.5 hrs and its is 40% down. Very few notifications. I uninstalled everything except MLB At Bat. Restoring when I get home "/

not really impressed?

Not sure if this is normal but on the second day only 8 hours in I have only 22%. This seems really low with all the great reviews on here? also for some reason I cant check my usage now on my iphone. It was working this morning? I have turned off hey siri and heart rate from glances. I haven't done a lot today just seems to be draining quick. any suggestions?

Day 2 and I'm really not thrilled with the battery life. Seems to be draining at a rate of about 10%+ an hour. undocked at 6:50am and it's now 2:20 and I'm at 27%. Several notifications, one voice text message, and a few setting changes but nothing else. In that time I even put it in power reserve for 30 mins.

I heard potentially un-pairing and repairing might help? Anyone have any other tips? I deactivated "hey Siri" and turned the brightness down halfway through that time and it didn't seem to drain any more slowly.

I do feel like I'm checking the battery pretty frequently, by looking at the watch face. Maybe as bad as once every 5 mins. Could that play a role? I've got a pretty basic watch face.

I don't want to have to get a new one, hoping I can fix this some way. I did get the 1.01 update yesterday.
