Be careful about unpairing. I did that and it did fix the Messages issue for me but created several others. All my Apple Pay cards/data were wiped off the watch. I will now have to reverify them. Some apps were removed from glances and some apps that I don't even have on the watch are in the glances list as if you could install them but you can't since they're not actually on the device.

I think I would have preferred not doing this. Just a warning you will have other problems if you choose to do it.

Thanks for the heads up. I've done the re-pair and fortunately everything working fine. No rogue glances and I'm in the UK so don't have Apple Pay.

When charging the Apple Watch, I wish I could see the percentage in the iPhone Apple Watch app (maybe in a badge icon) or turning the app on and it'll say how much battery remaining and while charging how much more to go...

App icon is a nice idea (bit like the calendar icon).

Hmmm.... I would say in general things seem smoother, but I am not sure I see a radical difference in app loading times. I suspect some folks who had truly excessive (beyond the typical slow) app loading times got something ironed out either in the watch or maybe on the phone, but for the rest of us it might be fractionally faster, like maybe 20% overall. Still, for a 1.0.1 update it is definitely worth the time to download and apply ;)

If you had synced music, it's gone too. And if you had any bluetooth devices paired they'll also be gone.

Just rest watch and phone. Still doesn't go to sleep with a palm cover.

Did a reset. Still doesn't work, even after 5 seconds. Not worth doing an unpair/repair just for this.
That wouldn't work anyway. But after doing that ( unpair/repair ) my music as well as my Apple Pay data were wiped. I had to put the watch back on the charger for the playlist to be re-synced. That took a while so I just left the phone and watch alone for about an hour and for whatever reason in addition to the music having been restored the palm cover is working much better. I hesitate to say back to normal but it seems to be.

I also found that when you un-pair an immediate backup of the watch is made on the phone if they're close to each other. You'll be given the option of restoring from that backup when you re-pair.

----------

Nope on both counts #

I must have been hit with a triple combo whammy then. I seem to be back to normal now but I wouldn't do that again unless there was a major issue.

Thanks. I'll think about doing a un-pair/re-pair later on.

1) Turn bluetooth off on iPhone.
2) Enable airplane mode on your watch.
3) Shut down your iPhone
4) Shut down your Watch (hold down the button then slide "Power off")
5) Turn iPhone back on.
6) Turn bluetooth back on your iPhone.
7) Start watch.
8) Disable Airplane mode on your watch.

I think this fixed it for me. I now get my notifications on my watch in real time (almost) and my phone no longer also lights up and vibrates.
thanks for posting this.

It was only a temporary improvement. It's actually quite erratic but most of the time takes quite a while before the palm cover works the way it did prior to the update. One person said he didn't experience the issues I did with the unpair/repair, but given the host of problems I had and you might have, I would strongly advise against it. Unless you're really having a MAJOR issue it's not worth the risk.

I've got most of it straightened out now ( I hope ) but I'm still finding things to correct to get back to the way things were before I did this. It's almost made me regret buying the thing in the first place but it has definitely made me sorry I ever tried that pairing business.

As for the messages or other alerts going to the phone first that did get fixed but try the far simpler suggestion posted above.

Weird that the palm-cover works perfectly for me (as it did before the update). I can't say it's a must-have feature though.

I wasn't sure about it until my iPhone rang yesterday in a meeting and it was across the desk - instead of scrambling across to grab and silence it I just palm covered the watch and voila - instant mute.

Its kind of like everything with the Watch - "not essential, but a nice to have".

Exception being fitness tracking - can't do that effectively on the iPhone at all.

Has the charging indicator been changed? When you attach it to the charger there's a ring which indicates the current charge. Before, wasn't it just the percentage?

Definitely seeing a bit more battery drain, after updating. Not major, but it's noticeable. Not sure if it's because the Watch Face comes on much more frequently, or something with the Workout App.

Two Palm Cover Gestures

Keep in mind there are two Palm-Cover gestures on the watch.

Briefly cover the watch face with your palm immediately turns the display off and goes back to the current watch face. Next time you look at the watch (activate on wrist raise), you'll see the time.

When receiving a notification, such as a phone call, covering the watch with your palm for at least three (3) seconds immediately silences the notification, turns off the display, goes back to the clock face, and after three seconds of continuing to hold your palm on the watch face, turns Mute mode on, confirming with a short taptic vibration. Mute mode can then be turned back off via the Control Center glance. Great if you are in a meeting. This three-second face-palm gesture only works when actively receiving a notification.

Speaking of which, I think I will use the following settings when at a concert or other event where "silencing all pagers, signal watches, and cell phones" is requested:

I have Airplane Mode mirrored in Apple Watch Settings app on my iPhone. Thus, if I enable Airplane Mode on either device, the other follows.

Given that, on the watch, I slide up the Control Center glance and tap, in order: Mute, Do-Not-Disturb, and then Airplane Mode. This sets DND on my iPhone as well, and then both go into Airplane mode. I also make sure my iPhone is set to vibrate mode. Perhaps airplane mode is overkill, but I don't want to be "that guy" with the iPhone and now Watch ringing a bell in the middle of a classical piano concert.

Another option: one could turn off the iPhone and put the watch in Power Reserve mode. Save your battery on both devices.

That's the one that's not working properly after the update. Prior to it I was using this exclusively to get back to the time face, now it only works if I keep it covered for 5 seconds or so. The time actually varies each time I do it but if it works it usually takes a while. Hopefully a fix will come in .02.

Is your watch an earlier or later one? I got mine on release day. Maybe there are minor hardware changes made during production that cause a different response to changes in the code in 1.0.1. Perhaps a crazy hypothesis, but who knows.

This appears to have also fixed my "HR data not being gathered/sent to Health app" issue.

I just tried this with 1.0.1. Mute is definitely selected in the iPhone Watch app. But covering the watch does NOT mute an incoming call. I think I have to do an unpair/re-pair now

This is so strange!

Doing what joyapplefan posted seemed to have fixed all but iMessage issues.

Then I did a reboot/reset of both my watch and iPhone, and that seemed to have fixed it all. It was back to 'normal' and I was happy. :)

Then, I went to may office where I turned off my bluetooth due to issues with my headset, and my watch and phone connected via WIFI, and I'm back to the same issues. My notifications hit my phone first, then my watch. ANNOYING.

HR Monitoring

I haven't noticed much of a difference overall except the HR function was weird today. Recorded at 7:01, 7:21, 10:08, and 5:20. Normally every 10 min with the occasional 20-30 min lag. Never several hours tho... I did it " manually" in glances and seems to be back on track.

I got mine May 14. It was a week 17 unit. And I would think very carefully about that un-pair. I've seen others post the exact same issues I ran into. If you're unlucky enough to get hit like us you will regret it.

I've noticed the same thing. I took mine off the charger at 9:00 AM today and as of right now - 8:04 PM, I'm showing 38% battery level. Typically I would still be around 50-60% with the same level of usage. Will have to see what the coming days bring...

My battery notification doesn't change. I've reset the Watch it showed the current % left. Then doesn't move again.

They may have tweaked the standing sensor a little too much - twice after updating I've gotten the message saying I met a stand goal while sitting at my desk :)

Even before the update, I found I could "stand" just by waving my watch hand in sort of a "tomahawk chop" for about half a minute — works even while lying in bed.
