Is this a common issue? So you literally get the crown wet to fix it? Isn't this risky? I thought the watch was only splash proof?

If you wear the watch to workout and sweat its common. I wash my watch in the sink under hot water every 2-3 days or as needed but on average every other day. I swim with the watch and its been to water parks. All no issue. True the rating is IPX7 but that gives you up to 3 meters of water for up to 30 minutes based on the rating but others have done much more with no issue. The Apple instructions tell you to remedy a stiff crown by running it under warm water while turning and pushing the crown. No worries.

The support article says to turn it off first. I don't and neither does my wife.

Didn't realise it was waterproof like this that's great thanks for the link reading now....

This is what it states on the website though..

"Apple Watch is splash and water resistant but not waterproof. You can, for example, wear and use Apple Watch during exercise, in the rain, and while washing your hands, but submerging Apple Watch is not recommended. Apple Watch has a water resistance rating of IPX7 under IEC standard 60529. The leather bands are not water resistant."

Right and they have done a good job of letting everyone know its not waterproof so there is no confusion if something happens because of water. In mine and others real experience I have not had any issues with water. Under sell, over deliver. I'm not saying you should do what I do with swimming and the like but certainly don't be afraid to wash it off if/when the crown needs it or the watch just needs to be cleaned. The part about leather is a given.

Still on fence about getting a watch. What do owners who've had there's a while now wish it had? Or what do you think is really missing from it?

Software features may come in the future, but still please put them in to.

Anything that needs adding hardware wise? Looking at them I'd prefer thinner definitely, but probably a few generations away yet.

Although Apple will bring out new ones regularly, I'm wondering if not as regularly as iPhones.

Thanks

I know this is a limit of current technology but I wish the Apple watch would always be on.

You would not be annoyed when it started to get dark with the light shining all the time? A white screen in the car or a movie or elsewhere would be pretty bright. Maybe the screen would dim enough to counter that but then you have a new problem of it adjusting quick enough based on conditions. Just a thought.

I was thinking more of a future technology where the display would be vibrant and not have a glaring back light. Like a hybrid between eInk color display + the resolution of retina.

GPS
More sensors to track activity and fitness. For example a barometer.
Native Apps

Easy enough to fix by having a screen off or dim mode for when you dot want a bright screen.

I have that already. When I want the screen on I just pick my arm up and have a look. :D

Well, that's the thing isn't it? If Apple ever provides an "always on" mode for people who want it, it stands to reason that they'll keep the "off unless wrist is raised" mode for people who like it the way it is now.

Most of the time you are the guy walking around with a black slab on your wrist. Another reason I wanted the watch face to be visible at all times.

I agree. Looks like its turned off, or your battery died - kinda stupid. I know its for battery, but come on. Sometimes I just want to look at my arm and see the time without me twisting the wrist. It would look so much better on our wrists if the watch face was on all the time.

I don't know -- could be personal preference, but I've seen several people wearing Apple watches, and one person wearing another kind of smartwatch that also had a black screen, and I don't think it looks stupid at all. Yes, it's a black square on your wrist, but I don't think it looks bad.

As for not being able to see the time when you look at your arm, I'm finding a hard time finding an angle where I can see the watch face, where the motion of turning to put my arm at that angle doesn't turn on the watch. The only exception is if my arm is already at that angle, and I allow the watch face to turn off, then I have to twist my arm or tap the watch to turn it back on. But I hardly ever keep my arm at such an angle for any significant length of time.

You guys are in luck. 9to5 has posted the answer you have been looking for.

...and I hope you know I'm being funny. Sometimes that does not come across in a post. I get what you're saying just don't see a great way past what we are already doing to interface with the watch.

+1 for GPS; have more than one playlist available away from the iPhone; ability to play audio books as audio books, and not the playlist creating contortion I have to use now (with no skip/fast forward/chapter capabilities). Basically, would like to run w/out my phone.

So I'll add to my original question now had some good comments...

Having a watch now, knowing its good and ba points, would you still but one today? Reasons you would and wouldn't please..

Phone carrier signal strength.

Tick movement selection for analogue secondhand.

Ability to use third party apps as complications.

and in answer to the new

and in answer to the new question, Yes i would, as everything can be added with software changes.
My previous watches are a Citizen SkyHawk and a Tissot T-Touch, both not cheep but can only do what they were built to do, where as the AW can be updated.

More categories of activity (weightlifting, cardio classes, etc.) or different categories which encompass wide varieties of things (heavy cardio activities {zumba, running}, light cardio {walking, gardening}, weighlifting, other).

More watch faces (can't have too many of those).

More bands.

I've only had mine since Thursday so my list is limited.

Orange sport band.
As someone mentioned already...FB messaging on par with IMessage. This is likely a FB issue and less an Apple issue.

Other than that....LOVE IT!!!

+1 for an orange sportsband. In my dreams, there is a copper coloured Apple watch with matching copper coloured link bracelet.
Always thought it would make a cool colour for iPhones as well...

My 2 cents:
better battery life.

It's fine right now but it seems huge potential improvements are not possible due to it:
GPS (dont need myself), All day HR monitor (I'd love this eventually), more intensive native Apps later on

Delete default Apps
I use like 3-5 of them. I dont need the ones I would never use on my screen. Half the time I misclick on them.
Some 'personalized' device right there

Improved switching between home & the App menu (or other menus in general)
At minimum going from app menu and the clock should be some type of swipe

Watch face Customization (Alot More)
The ones like Solar or plants onces are useless since you cannot add extra info.
The tradition clock ones are nice but should have an option to add the actual time on them

Side note:
Waiting on that Facebook messenger app (come on facebook spend the $$ o_O)
I use this more than messages to communicate with people.
Developers don't have access to the microphone yet... I'd guess we'll get a whatsapp and messenger app when OS2 is out.

I haven't seen them enough, but for me I want one that blends in more as a normal watch, rather than a bright thing on my wrist.

Also I class myself as having skinny wrists so really need to check on the size 38 or 42, rather have the bigger screen for my aging eyes though, but not if it looks like I've got a clock IBM my wrist!!
