Given how slow Siri processing seems to be with the current watchOS beta, has on-device Siri been eliminated?

Siri commands like setting timers and adding items to my shopping list used to be nearly immediate on my AWU 3, but now it seems like Siri is processing every request either through my phone or possibly a server via Wifi.

Private cloud compute, that is.

Installed the developer beta last night on my Ultra 2 and it's FLYING! I don't know what they did, but it's so much faster, it's crazy. No problems with Siri so far but it's still using the old UI when I hold the crown despite the icon being updated.

Did a run just now, and the temperature, humidity and air quality is there.
Think it’s looking really great 👍

I'm finding this new Siri AI unusable with the current beta (Public 2). Even my Garmin sets timers faster than my AWU 3 at this point. But I'll give the watch another chance after the next beta. For now, it's back in the nightstand drawer.
Having it to still depend on the paired iPhone is crazy. Still inconvenient and inconsistent.

My observation is it does improve with use: I don't know if there's a training component? It is still slower for me than on watchOS 26, but commands do work every time now. You may want to rethink your nightstand drawer…

Not sure if this is iOS or watchOS or something else. However since I updated to the Public Betas Wednesday I have done 2 runs (Thursday&Saturday) and both are missing the Maps of my run (like an Indoor workout). All other data is present except rendering the Maps. I ran Monday before the Betas and that run and all before have Maps.

Similar here. I ran to the gym, worked out, ran home. The first run didn’t record the map, although registered the distance, but the second one did it all.

Updating to public beta 2 now. The two biggest issues I've had with the first public beta are battery life draining much faster (barely making it 2 full days compared to 3-3.5 days on watchOS 26) and inconsistent measurements/lag with my swim workouts laps. (something I'm not sweating too much)

My S11 Ti is now charging to 100% for the last week, even though it is set to 80%. When I put it on the charger, the 80% icon is displayed but it charges to 100% anyway. What a mess.

Is anyone else having this issue with the Siri app on Beta4?

Siri conversations sync correctly between my iPhone and Mac, but they do not appear on my Watch.

When I start a conversation on the Watch, it does sync to my iPhone and Mac. However, on the Watch itself, it only appears as New Conversation, and the conversation is empty when I open it.

So the conversations are reaching iCloud, but the Watch is not showing or storing the titles and content correctly.

I don't believe you can set a straightforward max charge value for Apple Watches, like you can on phones and MacBooks. The only option is Optimised Battery Charging.
I have OBC on and it always charges to 100%. I am on watchOS27 and I don't see an 80% icon. Can send a screenshot.

Optimized charge limit only usually goes on sometimes. It's not a permanent switch unlike on iPhone and iPad .
Yes, OBC has to learn your usage (which can take a few weeks) and holds it at 80% until shortly before it thinks you are going to take it off charge, at which point it charges to 100%. If you have a learnable routine you will never see 80% unless you take off charge early.

The permanent switch setting is only available on later devices. Not sure which but my iPhone 15PM had it and my M1 iPad Pro is too old.

It has been constant for months and months until I did the Beta and has charged to 100% since then. As I said the charge to “80% icon” comes on when I put it on charge but it goes to 100% anyway.

There is not 80% charge limit. There is only optimized battery charging limit which is to 80%. My S11 Ti, with this setting has always charged to 80% until I installed the last version of Beta.

Thanks for raising this issue, I have learned a lot about OBC (Optimised Battery Charging) and OBL (Optimised Battery Limit) which I didn’t realise were separate things until seeing Apple’s article about OBC and OBL which says this:
“With Optimised Battery Charging, your Apple Watch learns from your daily charging habits to improve the lifespan of your battery. And supported Apple Watch models offer additional battery charge optimisations with Optimised Charge Limit”.

My Ultra 3 on latest watchOS27 beta has no setting for OBC, only OBL, so it looks as though OBL supersedes OBC on supported models. On the watch screen in Battery settings the small writings says:
"When Optimised Charge Limit is turned off, Apple Watch may still wait to finish charging past 80% until you need to use it".
.....That sounds like on watches that support OBL, you can't turn off OBC.

The Apple article also has this:
"Optimised Charge Limit changes dynamically depending on how you use your watch. Based on your usage patterns, your watch may charge to 100% on some days, and less on others".
...which is a bit surprising. If it wasnt for this I would have assumed OBL was like the limit setting on phone and Mac.

I have OBL turned on and have never seen 80%. I have also never seen the open charge ring you mentioned and shown in the article:
Screenshot 2026-08-01 at 17.23.13.png

....but it is possible I have never noticed it! Unfortunately my watch has only just been charged to 100% and if I put it charger it does not look like the screenshot. I can’t check if shows it when I put in charge when it is less than 80%.

The watch still has to learn your usage with OBL so your situation may be because Apple may have tweaked the algorithm in last beta, or it may be a bug or it may be re-learning your usage.

I haven't had my Ultra 3 very long and it has only been on latest beta and the one before, but it sounds like OBL is misbehaving for both of us in different ways.

That is accurate. The algorithm alone limits charging to 80% on the Apple Watch only at certain times; neither the iPhone Apple Watch app nor the watch’s settings provide a way to adjust it as you can on an iPhone or iPad.

Really? It certainly does not reach 80 percent; it feels like a strange quirk when I notice it. My Series 6 charges fully each time and no longer behaves this way after the initial months I owned it.

For your information, as series 6 isn’t compatible anymore, I am not on watchOS 27 beta; I am using 26.5. So far it has not appeared, but if it shows up in 26.6 I will tell you.

Both my S11 and Ultra 3 charged to 80% when you selected “optimized charge limit” on the watch prior to me going to Beta27.

People need to make sure you settings on your iPhone are set as follows:

Settings/Privacy and Security/Location Services/System Services/Significant Locations must be “ON”

This could be the factor. When we use clean energy charging on US iPhone models it does optimised charging sometimes too

If the settings are all done correctly and you put the watch on the charger at near the same time each 24 hour period, it will not fail to charge to 80%. Maybe once a month it will charge to 100% for calibration purposes.

“Clean energy charging” would/could interfere with the time your watch starts to charge. Consistent charging habits cause the 80% limit to kick in. Just something like not using or charging your watch for a few days will cause it to go back to 100% charging for a few days before it goes back to the 80%.

Apple Watch doesn’t have Clean Energy Charging imo only iPhones do

My Significant Locations is turned ON.

Since you have a learnable routine which has always worked, but suddenly doesn’t in beta 4, I suggest Apple has made some tweaks in the beta which require it to learn again…..or its a bug.

I have no routine, I charge every two or three days. When level is down to 20% I put it on a charger which could be any time of day. That might explain why I never see 80%, and possibly why I don’t see the OBL screen with open ring….maybe that only appears once it has learnt.

I charge once to twice daily.
