So my series 4 sssb has been stuck on installing 5.1 For an hour and a half now with nothing showing on the watch except the bright white Apple icon. Spoken to Apple Support who said that they are getting calls from other people experiencing the same issue and they have advised me to leave it for 2 to 3 hours. WTF Why would an update that supposed to take 10 minutes to install take 2 to 3 hours

+1. Same model, too (Series 4 Stainless Steel Space Black).

Sorry to hear that. My watch is just over two weeks old so if the issue doesn't go away, i shall be talking to Apple after sales tomorrow insisting that they send out a brand new boxed replacement straight from the factory...no white box replacement

Glad I read this.. maybe I will hold off.. although I already downloaded the update for my S3 and it's just waiting for me to install it.

I wish I had read this before I did my 5.1 to my AW4 SBSS!

I lucked out and my update went fine. Took less time than I can remember for any watch update.

Yep that is what I meant with my post above yours - though reading it back it looks I'm being cocky. Not meant that way at all, just feel lucky I got away with it.

Tanks for posting this, although I'm sorry to hear that some of you are having issues. I am appreciative of the warning and think I'm going to wait for a bit before I trying the update.

Yep just spoken to Apple Aftercare and they have said they are getting lots of calls about people asking for replacements. I am returning mine tomorrow as its completely stuffed

Mine too... damn it Apple! I don’t have Apple Store in my contry and Series 4 is out of stock everywhere... Great job...

Add one more to being stuck on the Apple logo for almost an hour now. Does Apple have any suggestions besides just keep waiting indefinitely

Apple is shipping me a repair box. The email I got from them which has the issue is described as a System-wide issue.

Problem Description: System-wide Issues - Frozen - Apple Logo

She advised me not to update my wife's watch.

Update:
Just got off the phone with Apple Support. He had me try to erase my Apple Watch 4. It was unable to do it since the phone can't find the watch. He then had me try a Hard reset. No luck. I have an Appointment at the Apple Store tomorrow.

I am so happy I closed all my rings already this morning (at 11:00am)

If this isn’t a simple fix it’s going to be a nightmare. Every iOS device can be plugged into a computer and have the software reinstalled through iTunes but watchOS is different.
The watch is completely reliant on the connection to your iPhone. Without being to establish that connection I can’t see how to get out of this.
Hopefully the problem is server-based and Apple need to fix the problem at their end before the installation can complete.
