WatchOS4 also offered elevation gain, even on older watches. I believe it was measured either by the phone or by GPS. But yes, I believe S3 watches can measure elevation changes independently.

Interesting. Yeah, I check my NRC records from S3 LTE & it indeeds show elevation gain (without a phone).

is it just me or does anyone else notice that the watch locks constantly with beta 2. I unlock it to do something put my arm down and it almost instantly locks. Am I missing something somewhere?

I'm not getting stand hours notifications anymore since beta 1.
Anyone with the same problem?
Hmm I don't remember getting a Stand notification, now that you mention it. I'll keep a look out. Also, looking in the Watch app on my phone under Notifications Stand Reminders is on for me. And the description text states, "When this is on, you'll receive a reminder to stand if you've been sitting for the first 50 minutes of an hour." Maybe you've just been more active?

I get them.

My issue is the activity exercise ring doesnt seem to act the same as WatchOS4. It's probably by design as it wants me to actually be more active but based on my experience with the previous OS, my activity was getting some credit even when not doing actual exercises. Now, it's seemingly not unless I fire up a workout.

Automatic workout detection set but don’t work or not in beta yet... ?

Done 10km of bike at great speed and received no alert to start a workout...

Then I start a workout myself but didn’t see any invitation to add the 10km already done...

K I just got a Stand notification.

If you had this feature turned on, you may have noticed which workout activities it detects/starts. Running, walking, swimming, elliptical and rower. Seems like big arm movement activities.

It’s working in the beta already and I have tested it.

Sports scores just started working for me.

I think it has to do with Siri. Siri wouldn’t tell me the sports scores on watchos 5, now it’s working.

Did you do anything? Or started by itself?
What teams do you follow, and how often do scores update?

It has it’s quirks though. It’s not showing tomorrow’s Yankees game under “upcoming”, but it’s showing a Giants-Browns preseason game on August 9...

What happens when you touch a game? Can you see additional stats, situation?

Can somebody check on something for me?

In WatchOS 3 if you started a stopwatch, the next time you raised your wrist you would see the regular watch face with your time and complications. If you had a stopwatch complication you'd see your stopwatch time in the complication and if you had a stopwatch face you'd see your stopwatch time on the stopwatch face. This is how it should work.

In WatchOS 4, the stopwatch takes over the entire OS, so any time you raise your wrist while the stopwatch is running, you see a full screen stopwatch. This is totally annoying when you have a stopwatch face or complication, wouldn't it be better to see all of your other things (weather, date, time, calendar etc) rather than a HUGE gigantic stopwatch that fills the entire screen? The reason why mechanical chronographs have little sub-dials for the chronograph is so the user can see the regular watch time as well as the elapsed chronograph time simultaneously so I hate how WatchOS handles this in iOS4.

Is this functionality changed or improved in WatchOS 5?

I'm afraid to install Watch OS 5 on my personal watch because I'm not actively developing any apps for WatchOS right now and I'm not sure how reliable the betas are...

Yea - same as OS/4 for session based applications like timers and workout and other apps considered session based apps. The settings under general for wake screen talks about this and a few options that are available. I think it defaults to “while in session”. When you do a workout, you probably want to raise your wrist and see your heartbeat and the workout. I like it for the timer as well.

I can’t remember if you have the timer as a complication if it will work the way you want or not.

It’s back to the way it was. Only shows up in the complications.
