Or sick days. I am on a huge streak at the moment and when I was ill (and should have really been in bed) I couldn't bring myself to allow the streak to be broken. It's a bit tragic, I get that, but....
That’s what a streak means. That’s why it’s harder as time goes on - stuff happens. If you just cheat your way through it by tapping out on days you don’t feel like doing it the streak is meaningless anyway.

My knee jerk reaction was this sounds like the everyone gets a trophy thing. I changed my mind though. If lowering the bar works better and motivates some folks then what the hell. These are personal goals after all.
Your first reaction was correct. It perpetuates the same dangerous thoughts as those against “fat shaming”. Don’t worry about working hard - we’ll just normalize your mediocrity instead. Problem solved.

Finally! The stand hours is a joke right now. I can stand at my desk for an entire hour and not get credit unless I put my arm down by my side for a minute.

That’s because the watch not only requires you to stand to get Stand hours, but also to “move around a little.” Basically, move the watch enough for it to realize you’re standing up.

Perhaps every 12months allow for like 3 sicknote days or something. Yes it's not quite the same as a genuine streak, but emotionally I can rationalise it to myself at least. Better that than to break a 600+ day streak because I have an illness and actually need to rest up.

This is where many health apps go wrong, they promote inappropriate behaviour that is actually detrimental to the persons wellbeing.

I can agree with the last part. The psychological element of fitness gamification is strong. People probably do push harder because of it. But maybe that’s for the best. Taking a 30 minute walk while you’re sick is not going to be the thing to take you down.

That very much does depend on the illness / injury. ;)

yay! but i cant enjoy the new feature because... Series 2 Watch :'( but definitely something to look forward to when getting my next watch!

Exercise ring wise it seems really weird that 20mins of walking is the same as 20mins of running. I walked 26miles and scored way better on that ring than had I ran the marathon distance, ridiculous.

Very often I get NO exercise ring credit for walking workouts. I once walked something like 5 miles with a walking workout running and got NO exercise ring credit. If I want credit for a long workout I either have to set it as a running workout or an 'other' workout.

Wouldn't it be nice if Apple actually used the sensors in the Apple Watch to determine if I have been standing, sitting, or lying down any time in the last hour, rather than stupidly telling me to stand at 50 minutes past the hour, no matter what? Just dumb.

They need to let us develop off day profiles. For example on my off day, I only want to burn 250 cal, 10 work out minutes, and 8 stand hours.

then let me assign this profile to Tuesday and Thursday since those are my rest days.

while this is a step in the right direction, it still sounds very manual.
Yes please - this is still my biggest pet peeve with the activity app. I want to set ambitious goals, but everyone needs a rest day and the activity app doesn't offer an easy way to do it beyond manually changing your goal on a rest day.

stand goal makes absolutely no sense to me.

i work a job that requires i stand for almost everything i do. someone sitting at a desk can walk for 1 min when they get the reminder, i can go the entire day and not clear the stand goal despite not sitting down for easily 10+ hours
Yeah it's dumb. If you are standing but your arms aren't at your side it doesn't give you credit. Totally useless.

You have to walk at a faster pace to get exercise credit for walking. It doesn’t have anything to do with the length. My morning walk is 6.8 miles and I always, without exception, get exercise credit. My pace ranges from 12:45 to 14:30 a mile, depending on the weather and my mood, and that’s good enough to get exercise credit for walking.

Apple usually doesn't do something unless they can do it right. If their sensors and algorithms can't figure this one out they probably shouldn't have done it.
I think “arm at your side” is a pretty good, if imperfect, proxy for standing. It can be cheated, but if you do it, you’ll get credit.

Again, how would you expect something on your wrist to know you’re standing?

Since Apple pretty much invented the unhealthy lifestyle that results from using their products (sitting perfectly still for countless hours every day staring at a flickering screen) its nice to see they're offering another device to encourage not doing that.
Creating a problem and then selling the cure...

I like the idea of customizing the Exercise minutes so you can tailor them to your monthly Challenge Goals (so if you need to exercise, say, 22 minutes a day to meet your Challenge goal, you can set it for 22. Or if it was 44...).
Yea I like this for stand too. Now I can actually make the ones that involve closing stand. Can't make 12 stand on work days since they don't let us have smartwatches since they are paranoid we are all evil Dick Tracys and will steal everyone's info

EDIT: The cooler addition to this would be multiple goal groupings for different days of the week. Whatever your work week is could be lower and weekends higher

I mean how else do you expect your watch to know you are standing?
Yea it should actually be stand up. I don't understand why it is so finicky. Sometimes I'll barely be upright and it will register, and other times I need to dance around for minutes before it kicks in.

This is why I think the monthly goal should always be a hard number and not based on closing rings. Burn so calories, exercise so many minutes, stand so many times, move so many steps/miles...only one of those I know you could game is exercise by using Other. Other than some robot or a pet wearing the watch.

They should let you accrue sick time as you move exercise stand more

If you are wrist is resting on your keyboard for an hour, there is no way for your watch to know.

This is nice but the values seem odd. Basically they are letting people close their rings without trying now? I can understand increasing. Also, why the max values? Maybe I want to make sure to get 120 exercise minutes and 16 stand hours.

It's not like you win money or something if you close your rings...they're supposed to be personal goals for your own edification. So you can reduce your Exercise to 5 and Move to 100 if you want, but you aren't getting anything out of it. I'm happy I can reduce Stand because its the only one you can't close towards the end of the day if you realize it's still open.

I don't know. I'm not an Apple Engineer. I'm just saying if they couldn't do it properly they shouldn't have done it at all. It's a junk feature as it is right now.

^ This! I could not agree more.
I would like the ability to program one off-day per week and I absolutely would love the ability to program the other days to a goal that is a lot higher than 60 mins. Apple does not seem to be interested in folks that exercise more than the common person.
