You have to walk at a faster pace to get exercise credit for walking. It doesn’t have anything to do with the length. My morning walk is 6.8 miles and I always, without exception, get exercise credit. My pace ranges from 12:45 to 14:30 a mile, depending on the weather and my mood, and that’s good enough to get exercise credit for walking.

That's quite a fast pace for walking - very few people are going to go out for a walk and consistently maintain 4+ mph for nearly 7 miles. That is quite fast. Is it really based on pace? I had always assumed it was based on level of effort/heart rate, but I'm not so sure. I've gone on some pretty intense "walks" on very steep inclines and gotten a high heart rate and then find out I achieved no exercise credit. One time I did a hike where I climbed nearly 1,500 feet in vertical elevation and got no credit at all.

My big issue is that the watch only tracks your path if you choose walk, run or cycle workouts. There is no 'hiking' mode. Or at least that is how it used to be, I haven't checked lately. I'd get credit if I chose run but then I'd mess up my average running pace.

Just a pet peeve of mine and some others that I know.

Well, no, it’s not pace, per se, it’s that pace is what gets your heart rate up. I worded that very poorly.

What heart rate didn’t get you credit for exercise? All of mine are from about 120 to about 145. I wonder if the watch isn’t capturing your heart rate well, but you’d probably notice that.

It sucks that you don’t get the credit you should. I’ve had the watch (and Fitbit before it) run out of battery during exercise and even though I got exactly the same amount of exercise, it felt a little off not having the little electronic doodad validate it. Weird and irrational, but it still bugged me.

Finally! The stand goal at 12 has been a bit of a nuisance

I'm actually annoyed that you can't raise the Stand goal above 12, because it stops giving Stand reminders after you hit your goal. My average according to Trends is 17.

I keep my Move ring at 1,000 calories, which requires about a 6-mile run on top of a normal day, so I've set my Exercise ring at 45 minutes.

stand goal makes absolutely no sense to me.

i work a job that requires i stand for almost everything i do. someone sitting at a desk can walk for 1 min when they get the reminder, i can go the entire day and not clear the stand goal despite not sitting down for easily 10+ hours
Did you try standing on one foot all day long?

If we take out the WatchOS 7 goodies (watchfaces, deeper customisations etc), I'd like to know what are the real benefits of the AW6 for an AW4 user. The O2 meter, a brighter display, the U1 chip, and.. that's it? What about battery life?
We will have to wait for a tear down and some average hands on time with the watch to ascertain how well it does. Too early to say about battery life.

Cuddle culture, everyone is a winner, participation trophies, there’s no losers, now let’s all hug and share a secret.
"let's all hug and share a secret" made me chuckle lol 🤣

Yeah I figured as much... 80% sure it was that, but I wondered if the dude was maybe calling me a child for caring about the rings. :p

Yeah, I guess this cuddle culture is to blame here, especially seeing the description in Apple's website.. seems to be aimed at older adults... I guess... it's not so bad. Still, I would've limited Stand to 10 hours min, and Exercise? I think it being a static 30 min for everyone was a good thing. If you needed to "cheat" on the Exercise ring, you could always just do a light yoga workout or another mellow workout.. That's what I always did when I needed a few more minutes.. ...yeah this kinda sucks :/

Just updated my watch OS and one of the first things I did was decrease the stand hours to 6.

My watch is terrible at picking up stand hours for me. For example, in this current hour - I have walked from my computer to the stairs, walked down a flight of stairs, walked around a bit getting stuff, walked back up a flight of stairs, and walked back to my computer. Easily at least a couple of hundred steps over a few minutes. My watch still thinks I haven't stood up this hour...

Just found out that Apple now allows activity recorded in third-party apps without the Watch on to update your activity rings 👏🏻
