Has anyone done or seen a comparison between power values recorded by watchOS 9 vs those coming from Stryd?

I know that there is no standard but would like to see if the behaviour of the curves is similar.

It's very hard to see but looks like native Apple Watch power and Stryd might be the closest matching with Garmin and Polar power being divergent.

Can someone explain what the Cardio Recovery feature in WatchOS 9 is? Is it just a different version of what's already in watchOS 8 and before where it shows how much your heart rate recovers/falls over 2 minutes after the workout? Or is it something that tells you how long to wait before your next hard workout?
Yeah the last part and added rest-days would be amazing. They need to figure out, that my legs are not really up for anything the day after a marathon!

Thanks for the heads up - saw his breakdown video of the features on YouTube as well.. Pretty good actually

First run with watchOS 9 tonight. Really liked running with the HR zone screen up. Keeping track of my HR via zones instead of just the raw value is a lot more useful when I am peeking at my watch to check in every km or so. Kept it in zone 4 for the flats and downhill, a bit of zone 5 when I was pushing my pace up, and worked back down to zone 3/2 as I walked the last couple blocks.

Particularly excited to check out the vertical oscillation and ground contact time metrics whenever those are ready.
Nevermind, it is all already there!

and as Ray has stated often, there is no industry standard on calculating running power, so the bigger issue is... is the running power value consistent to the platform... ie. does it accurate show your effort over a variety of terrain and exertion levels day in and day out. sneaking a peak at the graph above it appears that nearly ALL the platforms including the Apple Watch show consistency as his effort varies, but no parity with each other in terms of watts expended. to me the above graph looks "good", it just doesn't match the exact numbers of Garmin, Polar etc. which all are a bit different.

With all these new metrics I really hope that somebody introduces some HUD sports glasses similar to the FORM swimming goggles, it would save constantly glancing down at the watch.

How the F do you get the new stuff to show up? ID don't see most of the new interval stuff and I really want to use it. I have a watch 4, and don't see half of this stuff. Further, it stopped reporting all activity to my phone since update.. I restarted phone and watch, re-paired etc, still nothing. I seem to have hit the perfect storm with these last updates as Ventura Bricked my iMac too (though it works fine on my MBP)

To see the Cadence, Vertical Oscillation, etc. On your iPhone, open the Fitness app. Select your workout, then select “Show More“ which is next to the Workout Details.

Thanks, it doesn't show those, but does have a few more other details. it stopped recording from my watch when I did the OS update, so maybe why no new data with the extra fields?

Damn the time before the public beta is really long. Did a speed run yesterday to see if I could push below 20 mins. for the first time on a 5K (AND DID!!) and this has only fuelled my desire for the interval running part. And for the racing myself part.

Bring on July!

They better have the public beta really stable because I’m betting a lot more people will do the beta this year for the new fitness features.

I've been using the beta since it came out. I've not noticed any issue with it so far. I use the workouts app for all my workouts and have a number of third party complications on watch faces. All seem fine so far.

Swipe up on watch during workout. Or use Digital Crown.

5k under 20m? Not sure if everyone realizes how quick that is. Nice going!

My best 5k yet is 32’16” and I started running in November.

Edit: Now 29’35” 😉

Thanks man - Yeah it's propper quick! For me it has been a lifelong time that I thought (sub 20 min. is like - REALLY quick!).

Really looking forward to the Race-Yourself-feature. A bit like a race-game where you can race your own ghost driver

I have a Apple Watch 5 and had updated to WatchOS 9 beta. I can use the new workout like intervals, heart rate zones, but I can't see the new metrics like running power or ground contact time. I customized the screen display, turn the dial during workout, or try to see those in the Fitness app, none of these work.

Is it limited to outdoor run only (I'm doing treadmill only now), or do I need AW6 or AW7 for new metrics like running power?

Thanks!

It all seems to be pointing towards those features only being available for 6,7,8.

Yes, it is limited to outdoor run or at least not available for indoor run. I think it needs gps to work. That is also the case with Polar and Cores on watch implementation AFAIK.

Seems like we are getting awesome progress here in the running part of the watch - Only wish so far, would be some kind of indicator of the GPS signal - sometimes my watch is not really on point from the get go

Am I trying the new running features? Absolutely not.

Running is the thing you do to get to your car when its raining, no need to monitor that activity as the car is never too far away.

Is this confirmed? I’m on AW5 and don’t see it also.
Are checking the outdoor run activity (the previous poster where running inside, which doesn't have it). Try edit it and see if it is available on displays. I had a third-party power app working on S4 and see no reason S4 and S5 should be supported.
