Are checking the outdoor run activity (the previous poster where running inside, which doesn't have it). Try edit it and see if it is available on displays. I had a third-party power app working on S4 and see no reason S4 and S5 should be supported.
Meanwhile apple...last year 3D globe effect over Maps in MacOS 12 only available for apple silicon Macs :D
Same boat I'm with my Series 5...saw this over reddit to looks like it's just from the Series 6 and above get's it probably do to the always on sensors, even the SE have this hence it have the same processor as the S5...

I'm not trying to make excuses but is it maybe that the S6 and newer have faster processors AND/OR higher resolution accelerometers that allow for the calculation of running power at the wrist. Is your 3rd party power app connected to a bluetooth device, ie. Stryd? If that's the case Stryd is doing the accelerometer stuff off the watch so that may explain why it doesn't impact watch performance.

Probably the always in nature of those sensors what allows it even the SE can do this then….

It is power2run, it is on wrist power computation, without external sensors. I have Stryd, so bought it as backup. It worked perfectly fine on S4. I don't wonna spend time theorizing on why Apple might have limited to s6 and newer until we really know it is a fact. It really shouldn't be difficult for a s4-s5 user to verify for sure. I have given my s4 to my father and cannot check myself.

I've got the latest beta installed on a 4, 5 and 6...and power metrics are only available on 6.

So I've been using the new beta with some indoor runs using apple fitness plus.
The inclusion of heart rate zones is great.

While I have used power on the bike before I've never used it for running. Does anyone have any good resources for running with power? Like on the bike you do an FTP test to work out what power level you are and what you should be training to. I've not seen as much info for running with power.

Does apple set power zones for running? Is power used to determine post workout effort? Does it affect recovery time? Is there any recovery time at all in the beta?

Stryd has a wealth of resources (podcasts, FB groups, articles).

Here are two book recommendations:

I think it's pretty "solid" that these four metrics: 1) Stride Length, 2) Power, 3) Vertical Oscillation and 4) Ground Contact Time are only available on AW 6 and higher.

Pace, Heart Rate, Elevation and Cadence can be used on the AW 5 (4?) and higher.

I base this on my own experience and other anecdotal inputs from other users.

Which is a bummer. But - I guess I get it. Improved hardware accelerometers and other improved hardware items most likely gives those newer watches a leg-up. I mean, wrist-based power metrics is amazing. Kudos to Apple.

So not sure if this is for everyone or an error with my run but I did the Time to Run on Monday inside on a treadmill and I got power and cadence to show up. It didn't show Vertical oscillation, ground contact time or stride length.
Has anyone else got power working for indoor runs?

When you create a custom workout and set a number of repeats, can you set it to a really high number or infinite?

I run with Jeff Galloway's Run-Walk-Run method, so I normally run 60 sec, walk 30 sec, and go as far as 14 miles. I have no idea how many intervals/repeats that is, and it would vary depending on how fast or slow I am that day.

Also, can the custom running workouts with work/rest intervals have an overall goal? I need the thing to tell me when I'm done with 13.1 or whatever miles. :D

98, but then you can add a new step and reapeat 98 again and so forth

Question.

Do the new watch faces work on older model Apple Watch's? I have a 6 and it irks me when only the latest model get the new options. Thank you

Since some of the fitness metrics aren't available on the Series 5, are they unavailable on the SE as well?

Also is the intervals feature still available for S5 users even though some of the running metrics (e.g.: running power) are not?

The new running metrics are probably dependent of hardware sensors that have been upgraded in S6 and S7.
Intervals management is software only, so it should be available on all watches from series 4.

If you have not tried it, I would recommend you try an Apple Watch app called WorkOutDoors. You can set up interval schedules just like you are talking about and can go up to 1000 per section, but then you can add multiple sections if you need mare than that. I have used it for run/walk training on very long runs before. Plus that app is available NOW, you don't have to wait for the fall.

Anyone have an idea of why the Pace Alerts are all pre-set intervals? Mine go up in batches of 10 seconds and the targets go from 5:22, 5:32, 5:42, etc. Would love to figure out a way to set custom alert intervals due to my actual training paces🤔

Public beta loaded and ready to go! Really looking forward to this one! More than I can remember I’ve been looking forward to WatchOS releases for a looong time.

Looks like the intervals is there just fine but not the route-running feature. Does it need me to run with the new software before it gets available?

Yeah I have to say this was the first watchOS update I was really looking forward to.
The running metrics are a great improvement.

Can someone explain what the Cardio Recovery feature in WatchOS 9 is? Is it just a different version of what's already in watchOS 8 and before where it shows how much your heart rate recovers/falls over 2 minutes after the workout? Or is it something that tells you how long to wait before your next hard workout?

I was also looking forward to this feature. After installing the public beta I find the description to be a bit weird but I think it is close to what was already there with the 2min plot of heart rate recovery, only plotted over longer time and somehow normalized this time. More importantly even after several different workouts, I still have yet to see the first data entry under cardio recovery. Did anyone else get data for this? Or is it maybe not really included in the software yet and more like a placeholder?

Can any of the beta user tell if nested intervals are possible?

E.g. something like:

Warmup
Repeat 3 times
Repeat 5 times
Run fast
Jog
End Repeat
Jog
End Repeat
Cooldown

Thanks!

No, you can't add a repeat block to a new repeat section. At least for me on the current public beta.
