Is anyone here running watchOS 9 beta on a SE?

Wondering how the performance is comparatively to watchOS 8.

I have a Fenix 5 and an Edge bike computer for running and biking, respectively, but I use the Apple Watch for everyday use. I just don't find the AW good enough when it comes to tracking my running or biking - it lacks battery life and it's not as rugged as the Garmin products. On the other hand my and my Fenix is just not a smartwatch and doesn't integrate very well into the Apple ecosystem.

I also find the Garmin Connect integration to Apple Health lacking. Instead, I'm using a third-party app called RunGap to synchronize activities. It works very well for me and I thought I'd link it here and maybe you guys will find it bridges the gap between the two ecosystems for you too.

I'm not affiliated with the app or its creator in any way. I'm just a happy user since many years.

Thanks! I’ve used HealthFit and RunGap in the past. Sadly one of the primary Garmin features I want involve recovery, which requires that the watches be worn 24/7. I was really hoping that Apple would take recovery more seriously with WatchOS 9.

For the past couple of weeks, I have been using Training Today as previously mentioned. It’s actually pretty good and gives you an idea of when you need to slow down. Of course it’s your body’s ready-ness and not the legs in my case (might be ready to go again the day after a half marathon but the legs might not agree)

From the Apple event: track running mode will come later this year.
Excellent news, they are pushing hard on new training features.
That looked amazing ! Hopefully not an new-watch-only!

Just installed the Release Candidate and still no Ghost-race feature! That is weird that it’s still missing?! Even a part of their Series 8 ad

Edit: Screenshot… Damn

Well… at least they didn’t ditch the feature completely. Though could definitely use it before winter… I do plan to keep running even in winter months but I’m afraid my winter running is lazy running 😂

I only tried it a couple of times and loved it.

It did have a couple of the same routes split in different routes because they have been ended at like 10,1 or 10,0 or 10,2 KM instead of the same spot on. Hopefully that is a part they can review and fix now that they have the time.

Downloaded the RC version, this is the first beta I have installed. Went for a run on my SBS5 today and went on my usual route.
GPS distance was the same, AW has defo become more consistent in this regard so good to know that it is still solid. I like the new swipe up screens although it was raining so found it difficult to engage a couple of times.
The S5 only seems to have HR zones and none of the other new running features. As a trail runner I'm not sure how useful v.osc. grnd contact time etc. would be as the terrain is always changing, I think it is more for tarmac/track runners.
Hopefully the ghost run will be on it on the official release, I am looking forward to that as I only run 1 route these days.
I like the new robotized siri voice for stats as well.

Next time try the Digital Crown. That cycles through the screens so no need to touch the screen.

I have been a Garmin Fenix user since the first Fenix. Instead of buying Fenix 7 I bought a AW 7 in january. The main reason to this was that I couldnt train because of post-covid. And as a smartwatch AW is way better than Fenix. This summer I could start to train again and I miss my Fenix. Training score so I can see how my running was and compare it with other runs. And of course how my recovery is. I also miss that AW not can plan routes. For go biking it’s very good.

I have not download OS 9.0 yet but I think it’s a great upgrade. And I hope new features will come with OS 10.
(Sorry for my english)

You can use an app called Workoutdoors to load routes onto the watch.
Training Today is an app that can give you a recovery score.

The power calculations are spot on with my stryd pod. I am really impressed so far.

One question is still open:
If I am updating my weight. Will this affect the power value? I think most likely yes. This would affect the critical power value.
Any experience with this?

Stryd has the same issue. But you can avoid easily by not adjusting the weight in the pod area.

Still haven’t found out what to use all the new metrics for. Running power and GCT

I guess I'll play around with this on a run app this evening. I'm torn. I've been using the Nike Run app for years, so I'm kind of married to it.

Quick question,
When I try to download watchOS 9 I get a checking for update screen that never moves past that message.
Im still on iOS 16 beta. Is that that the problem ?

Does anyone know a good web page / manual for the new fitness app? There is a whole lot of content, but typically on a very high level.

E.g. I saw a small blinking arrow while doing a workout, no idea what that is.
Same for strength training, there is a blinking green dot, also no idea what that is.
Or what length are the rolling pace intervals.
What are segments, how do I create them, how are they automatically created (see them in HealthFit, but no idea how they were determined), etc.
Etc. etc.
