Does anyone know a good web page / manual for the new fitness app? There is a whole lot of content, but typically on a very high level.

E.g. I saw a small blinking arrow while doing a workout, no idea what that is.
Same for strength training, there is a blinking green dot, also no idea what that is.
Or what length are the rolling pace intervals.
What are segments, how do I create them, how are they automatically created (see them in HealthFit, but no idea how they were determined), etc.
Etc. etc.
Yeah a good in depth would be nice. Might come soon

Posting this here, as this seems to be the place for runners using Apples workout app. Or should we open a new thread?

Did anyone also get for each run > 10km a new medal saying "Congrats, you ran 10km"? I have been running each day this week and got this medal every day. ;):p

Yes, there are new badges for 5k, 10k, half marathon and (meh, I don’t have that one yet!) marathon 🙂

Great. But being given multiple times a badge for the same achievment is a bug or not? :)
Well, it’s similar to e.g. how many times you got a 200% or 7/7/7 etc… there’s yet a separate (golden) badge for the personal best.
For someone who’s running a 10k every day it might seem a bit excessive, but if you look at it from a beginner’s perspective, it might be encouraging to see how many times they were able to make a 10k run 🙂

To whom it may concern…

In 9.1, the ghost race option is baaaaaack! 🎉👻
Interesting, I just downloaded the beta but had to go to work. I’ll try tomorrow, is it something you have to select or does it start automatically if you are running the same route?

Instead of directly tapping Outdoor Run, tap the “…” in the right upper corner and scroll through the options 🙂

Running with power is so great. Apple did a great job. The values are even matching my Stryd pod very close. Nearly no difference.
The only question is: You have to keep your weight setting to keep the runs comparable. If you are changing your weight then the power values will change.
The Stryd pod has the same issue. But there it's more easy to keep the value the same because it is stored in the pod.

Any ideas?

I’m weighing myself regularly, the Withings scale / Health Mate would automatically sync the data to the Health app… that seems to be an easy way to keep the power numbers accurate

I tried the “Pacer” feature on todays 5K run and I like that metric as well. Real time haptic taps when you’re above or below the target. You can set the distance and desired time you want to finish.

Yeah!!

Im going on a half marathon tomorrow and new to beat my personal best, so will be using the pacer tomorrow and test the ghost later

Good luck with the HM!! I’m currently preparing for a 25k next month, and the pacer is priceless - did a 15k training with it today and it’s really great, helps me tremendously to keep a more or less even pace. I just hate the voice notifications so I only use the on-screen / wrist tapping pace alerts.

On the ghost run, the default view was a bit annoying, I had to tweak it - it shows whether you are ahead or behind (and how many meters), but it’s not showing the actual pace! Instead, there’s the remaining distance, quite redundant information if you ask me - when you run the same route repeatedly, you kinda KNOW how many kilometers are left :D But it’s adjustable, so it was bugging me only with the first ghost-race run.

Ok and now I yet need the Music app to finally start showing particular tracks’ BPM, so I can easily filter a playlist that would match my target SPM… that would make running with the Watch just perfect..! :D

The pacer is absolutely amazing indeed! :) Just a quick question - when you say you can set the desired distance/time… have you managed to set it to really finish at the given goal? So for example, I was trying to set up a 12 min run (for a Cooper test) but still had to stop the watch manually… while I’d like it to stop exactly with the set time mark. I haven’t found a way to do it so far…

I think finishing at the given goal would be suboptimal. Imagine GPS is measuring too short distance and you still have some distance left. It would miss on the recorded workout.
Btw, a manual calibration by road markers would be great. There is a Garmin app that does that.

Do interval workouts stop after the last part?

Good luck for your 25k!

Thanks! It’s a proper race for me aiming at 1.35, so pretty pumped up 😁

Three weeks later Munich Marathon the full one, so Apple came with the update just in race season - LOVE IT!

Hmm maybe for this, maybe just a regular run based on time, rather than the Pacer mode? Or were you trying to do a certain distance in 12min?

Oh - sorry I mixed two types, I meant the run based time. When you set it, you get a notification that you’re done after the set time runs out, but the exercise continues till you stop it manually.
What I try is to measure how far I can run within the defined time (it’s called “Cooper test” - based on a distance reached in a 12 minutes run, you’ll see how well you’re doing in your gender & age category). That’s why I’d like the exercise to stop automatically, without having to do it manually (with the inevitable delay).

Ah ok, that makes sense explained like that.
Sorry I misunderstood. I’m not aware of an option that allows that.

But also thanks for explaining the Cooper test. I run almost daily but had never heard of that!

Pacer is phenomenal at race days! The HM was going well but could see on the Pacer slide I was falling a bit behind in the end and had to sprint the last 1.5 km to the finish and nailed it. Has a challenge to beat my 69 year old coach’ best time from when he was my age (38) at 1.35.22 and ran it in 1.35.09 so loooots of time to spare 🤣

Wow, congratulations! That’s a dream time. I’m yet about to finally get under 2 hrs 🙈 (but well, I’m not so young anymore and only started running last year, sooo… no pressure 😂). But I can already see that the pacer and the ghost race feature help me improving, slowly but surely 👍
