Optimized Battery Charging has not been working on my Series 7 since WatchOS 10 . I sure hope it will fix it too .

I was thinking the other day that 10.1 made my battery life worse. Good that I wasn't imagining things.

This is a UI decision, they have the same thing on tvOS backgrounds. It’s a transperancy effect that diffuses the light from app icons. Horrible.
Indeed, it is horrible. But it doesn’t even look like it’s diffusing the light from the icons exactly. It’s an even green tinge across the whole screen. Shoddy and not what I expect from an Apple Watch.

It’s looks cheap and nasty.

Looks like my watch came out a cheap Xmas cracker.

Glad to know it is not just me. I am on the Apple Watch 9. Also, the weather card blanks out routinely.
The day it came out there was a post that said the weather complication was fixed and several of us complained about the heart rate. Maybe you didn’t see that.

Have they fixed the background glow on watch OS 10? The slight glow you can see in the dark when on Home Screen and swiping down or swiping up

It’s been on my watch since watch OS 9 and I’m tired of it.
I usually am very lucky to experience many bugs others don’t. I haven’t noticed this. Is it comparable to non-dark backgrounds on iPhone when you actually do have your lockscreen set to black but it’s just not black?

I also have an issue when trying add a timer complication to my Ultra 1. When doing so, the watch app crashes. That would be a nice fix.

It drains battery in every version since the original Apple Watch

No wonder they set the dimness on the Ultra 2 to 1 Nit. I guess the battery couldn't handle anything actually readable.

Apple is preparing a fix for an issue causing some Apple Watches to experience excessive battery drain after being updated to watchOS 10.1, the company said today in an internal memo shared with Apple Authorized Service Providers.

In the memo, which MacRumors obtained from multiple sources, Apple said the issue will be fixed in a watchOS update that is "coming soon." Apple did not provide any additional details in the memo, so it is unclear what the underlying cause of the issue is, how many customers are affected, and if every Apple Watch model is impacted.

There have been complaints about this issue from customers across the MacRumors Forums, Apple Support Community, Reddit, and X since watchOS 10.1 was released in late October. The issue seems to affect a variety of Apple Watches, ranging from older models like the Apple Watch Series 5 to the latest Apple Watch Ultra 2.

"WatchOS 10.1 is killing the battery on my Apple Watch," wrote customer Martin Cooper on X. "100% to 50% in less than 60 mins."

Apple's developer release notes for iOS 17.1 said that update fixed an issue where "increased power consumption might occur" when an Apple Watch running watchOS 10.1 is paired with an iPhone running iOS 17, but evidently the Apple Watch battery drain issue has not been completely fixed, so a watchOS update will be necessary.

MacRumors recently reported that Apple is preparing to release iOS 17.1.1 for the iPhone, and it is likely that the Apple Watch battery drain issue will be fixed in a watchOS 10.1.1 update. However, it is possible that the fix might not arrive until watchOS 10.2, which is currently in beta testing and is expected to be released in December.

My Series 7 battery tanked, so I bought an Ultra 2. Glad I’ll have 2 long lasting watches now.

I had the issue with specific 3rd party watch face apps. Removed them and it was fine. Now I didn't have issues with the apps before 10.1, so it is the OS and how it seems to interact with the apps. At least in my case.

Glad to hear they're finally admitting there's a battery drain issue with the last update. Thankfully I never installed it.

Apple releases a new software version in September. Eight months of patches follow. Apple announces a new software version in June of the next year. Just works for four months. Repeat and enjoy!

It’s frustrating, but that’s probably a touch dramatic. They’re the largest company in the world, there is obviously a lot of stuff they’re doing right.
Yep, spending on advertising so people want Apple anything because it makes them look good.

Fix one thing and break 5 or more other things. Apples operating systems are going down hill.
It is not just Operating Systems, but Apple software engineering in general.

Cook does not support getting the software right, because then he would miss the glitter for his important Keynote speeches and all of those magazine covers.

With Ive it was "form over function", with Cook it is "cheap glitter over function". Can't wait for a new CEO, they can't be much worse.

I traded in my Series 4 and bought a Series 9 because I legitimately thought the battery finally crapped out and it turns out it was just a fixable bug - I hope there’s a class action suit for this - absolutely unacceptable

Good to see Apple addressing it. But I have not seen this on my Ultra and my wife does not have it on her 7. Bugs can be weird sometimes.

I'm so angry. I contacted Apple Support and was told by two agents (1 chat, 1 phone) that the problem was my battery. So I got an appt at an Apple Store and the "genius" told me, again, that it was my battery, NOT the software update. I told her there were lots of people on Twitter saying they had the same problem and she charmingly replied that "you can find any answer you want to find online." So last week I caved and paid for a new battery - but now it turns out - they are updating the software to fix the problem. Ugh.
