It's obvious what this means

Apple obviously bought Wave from Google and plans to make it the center of OSX 10.9!

Why do so many people think there'll be an 'OS XI' or 'OS 11'? OSX's full name is "Mac OS X" and its version number currently stands at 10.8. The next "Mac OS X" could just have version number 11.0. No problemo.

If Apple ever moves away from the "OS X" moniker, it'll probably be called something radically different.

like "mOS" to match "iOS"

Apple could still call the system "OS X," but instead of "X" being the Roman numeral for 10, it could stand for UNI(X), of which OS X is a variant.

Any Helvetica looks hideous and old fashioned to me. I can only hope they didn't select this for the System Font!! I want a font with a slashed Zero and I want something modern, techy clean, and small.

LET the USER CHOOSE THE FONT FFS!!!

I've had to go to the effort to mod my own system font.

Being a huge fan of Helvetica Neue ultra light--it's a really gorgeous font--whatever the actual design changes to either OS, this makes me happy to see. I wanted to use that font as a heading font on a website so much that I spent days tracking down a free near-clone that looked good in all caps (Lane, if you're curious), and it was totally worth it.

Fun fact: "Neue", being German, is not pronounced "new", it's pronounced "no-ya" (or something close to that).

"noy-eh" It's a shame so many Americans are against saying any word that is the least bit foreign to them.

The End

Maybe its their way of waving goodbye to OS X.

I personally think they should go with OS X Leo, and then it would be a easy way to transition into constellations for the next naming theme.

Weird. I don't see waves. I see trees with clouds above them.

just sayin'

I didn't see this until someone else pointed out that they aren't waves but a manipulated satellite pic.....maps to OSX makes a ton of sense.

Way more sense than "OSX Merlion".....even if it is hilarious :D

I like Apple stuff. I think it works well. BUT...

Definition of an Apple fanboy is anyone who seriously is discussing fonts of the 7 and the X.

Take a step back and realize the special place you are compared to the rest of the world.

And the people who point such things out, to people who don't care, are even more "special".

What makes Apple fans any different than a fan of any other thing? And why is it such an abomination to be a fan of something? And why do non-fans give a rip about it? All unanswerables...

OSX WAVE

Google had their chance to use 'wave' but it flopped on it. Its a great name and up for grabs.

I don't particularly care if the OS gets a major visual design change but fingers crossed the updated OSX has more attention paid to functionality.

The only reason a name change away from the big cats is exciting is that it may signify a new direction for OSX a step towards functionality rather than a crossbred mess with useless mini apps and social media sharing build in.

I do not want or need social media embedded in such tasks as the "save" function

Give me a new mac pro and give me a new OSX with a flat, minimal interface and a lean and mean motor which is all about functionality.

Bring back the "save as"

Bring back the four finger app switcher.

And for $$$#@&^%%@$ sake fix the basics like finder window scroll bar and multiple file selection bugs...

Helvetica Neue looks nice on a huge banner but it can look a bit ****** when compressed and viewed online or in a small finder window? Also haven't the hip kids been using Helvetica Neue to death all over the place. Surely Johnny could stay one step ahead, or one step in the direction of timelessness rather than jumping on the vimeo screen graphics band wagon...

I know! Considering that a huge number of English words are from Germanic languages, French, Norse, Spanish and Latin one would think that Americans would be less ignorant. Sadly such is not the case.
