I'm thinking:

OSX Atlantic, North Atlantic, Pacific, South Pacific, Indian?
OSX Mediterranean, Caspian, Coral, Baltic, Red, etc? <-- more likely imho.

(Yeah so what if I had to jog my memory with Google Earth!) :p

Just one minimalistic comment.

Anybody else think this will happen?

2013: OS X & iOS 7
2014: OS X & iOS 8
2015: OS X & iOS 9
2016: iOS X

Tim Cook did go on record saying Apple had no interest in merging mobile and desktop OS into one (and that Microsoft was nuts for trying that with Windows 8). I'm referring to his "toaster and refrigerator" comment.

However, I do think OS X should lose numbers. To me, only one version of the OS makes sense - the current one. You know, like Chrome browser is Version 27.0.1453.110, who gives a crap? It's just Chrome browser and it should be up to date, end of story. Microsoft leaves old IE versions alive and now web developers have to worry about supporting IE7 or IE8 instead of just developing for the current tech.

I think they are going to call it "Beach"

Then they can start advertising people to bring their "Ice Cream Sandwich" to the "beach"

My God, Apple is so unoriginal now. Not only does it stench of Microsoft, the X makes the picture look like it was meant to be crossed out.

I was thinking it was OS X, ride the wave. But, your post got me thinking its the opposite. A big X, for OS X, no longer riding the wave. Maybe there is a change up visually to OS X as well.

Internally iOS is already a cut-down OS X. What's the difference? If they completely merge them ala Microsoft, they'd be making a HUGE mistake. I don't think that's going to happen in the traditional sense. They may merge a bit more of the core OS (if that's not already been completed as far as they need to go in order to maintain security on iOS), but beyond that, it wouldn't make sense at this point in time or in 3 years.

The next release nomenclature, when they ultimately do retire "X" and tire of "i", could very well be "Apple OS". They don't have to merge code bases to unify branding.

I just combined both the iOS 7 and OS X banners, not sure why, it still doesn't make much sense, but I saw them and had an urge to overlay them together, so I did. hopefully it gives somebody an insight.

Planets? Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, etc., or too easy to slander? (e.g., Uranus)

Farnsworth: I'm sorry, Fry, but astronomers renamed Uranus in 2620 to end that stupid joke once and for all...
Fry: Oh. What's it called now?
Farnsworth: Urectum.

Sea Lion?

Haha of course everyone else thinks of things first... :p I like the graphic iSimx!!

Sea Lions are not cats.

Personally, I think they should end the OS X series with an extinct cat, such as Sabertooth. Or they could go with the Caspian Tiger, which is extinct but who's name is also a sea. Would make a nicer transition to Ocean names for OS 11 than Sea Lion!
