Spoke to someone on the apple store chat, said we have to wait til the 20th to order it, seems a bit silly, means we will get it after launch.

Here is hoping that the iPhone Rainbow gobbles up most of the demand.

Is this the first time a phone wasn't available for pre-order?

Whats even more annoying is Apple is going to help people set up their phones in the store. This really slows things down. If you can't set up an iPhone on your own you shouldn't even have one. Very disappointed in Apple.

The cheap phone... you can pre-order.

The best phone.... you can't.

Makes perfect sense.

I'm getting the sinking feeling that the 5S will only be available in Apple stores on the 20th, too, the nearest of which is 4 hours away from where I'll be on the 20th. Damn visit home.

So is there going to be some explanation for why they aren't allowing pre-orders for the 5S? Perhaps ridiculously low numbers of available units?

This!!!

They can kill 2 birds with 1 stone: they will make their usual marketing ******** with those crazy lines at the stores while not revealing they're experiencing yield issues...

Well when I got my 4s I was able to walk in to the AT&T store at around 3 pm launch day and walk out with the phone. Hoping that will be the same this year. What model usually sells out first, 16 gb?

I can't take off work next Friday which means I probably won't be able to get a 5S for weeks then, since there are no pre-orders.

Cool.

I'm really getting sick of Apple's BS.

So how exactly does this work though ... ? This is so foreign to an iPhone launch.

Does it have anything to do with trying to combat the scalping market? That would be my guess.
