Any word if this is on the Mac weather app on 13.1 as well? Seems like a very cool feature. I love the weather app after getting to know it a lot more, and this makes it even more fun to use.
It was showing on the Ventura 13.1 beta for example. So Apple is trying to see if they can force ads on us, in this example its for Apple News. see below.

On its nose, this seems like a good idea and can even provide useful. Just hope Apple will give us the option to toggle it on/off. If not, then that's more like an ad.

Off topic and please…global warming is real but doesn’t predictably impact weather so the original poster was saying is articles trying to tie every weather event to global warming were stupid because they are anti science. Or if not I will say it. They are hysteria. These phenomena are way too complicated for a “climate change caused THIS hurricane” article because it’s unprovable nonsense. It’s about as anti science as possible and pure propaganda. It’s the equivalent of saying evil spirits cause the weather. The fact that a rate of global warming has been observed and can be attributed to human activity doesn’t mean all weather is attributed to it.

Why this came up about the weather app I have no idea…
Expecting journalists to not sensationalise a weather story is like walking over to pat a crocodile and expecting it won’t drag you under.

News being inserted into a weather app is just trying to promote Apple News. Obviously it isn’t doing well. Taking up space in the weather app is annoying as hell, and the idea needs to be circular filed and the weenie whose idea it was made to stand outside in the weather for a full week.

Apple, if your News app isn’t popular, just trash it.

What if you've deleted the News app? Will this not show up? Hopefully this is able to be toggled off...

This will almost certainly still show up, and it will take you to the App Store to download the News app. The entire point of this is to try to drive traffic to News, Apple's worst service.

This is nice, But I want Dark Sky back! Sadly Apple is shutting down the best weather app at the end of the year
The Apple Weather App on the Apple Watch is incredibly difficult to use and does not give minute by minute weather changes which I guess is important if you live somewhere else besides CA.
Does anyone else hate what Apple did to Dark Sky and or hate Apple Weather?

The only weather source that's accurate for my location is AccuWeather, and their app is the worst. The Apple weather app does not update frequently enough which you would think would be its one advantage. Apple apps don't have to follow the same rules about background processes that all other apps do.

Why is Apple first party apps set up like this? They shouldn’t need a system update to update something like this. It should be internet based updates.

Ads on lock screen coming eventually.
‘We’ve created an ad widget on your home screen - which you can’t remove - so advertisers can tell you about products that you care about.

Also when you launch an app you get a 2 second full screen ad unit before you see the app. Isn’t that great?’

Two things… this app sucks. It always has. I live in the 8th largest city in America. We have none of this. And the only thing that we want is to keep dark sky.
Is that a royal or editorial we?

Apple if you’re reading this, how about:

  • Sponsorship spots sold against wake up alarms: ‘Your morning 6am alarm is sponsored by mega-corp. Have a great day!’
  • Ad units in Settings: ‘Sounds & Haptics is bought to you by Evil Corp’
  • Photos will have ads inserted into your library. Think instagram video ads but cooler.
  • Video ad units injected into iMessage conversations.
  • Ditto audio 5 second ad units before and after phone calls & answer phone messages.
  • Also I’d like to see Apple News stories injected into your email inbox between every 3-5 emails.
  • Contacts could also have advertiser addresses added to people’s address books.l without them asking.
I mean I should be charging for those ideas but I’m giving them away for free.
