So many kneejerk comments. Is school out already?

Using a WAP site instead of full HTML is also faster. A mobile site instead of a full site is also faster. So what? They're both missing something.

Commenters on the PocketNow article report that users have the ability to load Flash elements only on demand

All commenters should first note this important part: the user can turn off automatic Flash display and have what iPhone users get... a little indicator box.

Unlike iPhone users, they can click the indicator and use the Flash section if they wish.

In other words, it's just as fast or faster if you wish. But you can still optionally see the Flash sections. Sounds like the best of both worlds.

Give me the option to view flash or not. Let me make my own decision. Google will get my money and not Apple next time I buy a phone. Choices are good.

this has been my experience. the browser is blazing fast but with flash installed scrolling is choppy and it refresh every 3 to 5 seconds. I cant wait to return to the iPhone

Am I the only one who thinks playing those flash games was pretty cool?

Am I the only one who is interested on watching Hulu on their phone (yes froyo users can do this with a minor modification)?

It's just a beta version of flash. It's still cool, and there should still be the option.

Flash player is in beta for years now. If you know what I want to say.

Why does MacRumors keep doing news stories on Flash? Surely it's going to be biased against it given Apple's stance? I certainly don't see any pro-Flash reports here.

looks very nice considering most games in the app store look like 1980's arcade rejects

i'll take a little choppy over no flash if there is a good AT&T Android phone next year. Most of the iphone apps i use are on Android anyway. and the hardware will only improve.

Don't really care about battery too much and my 3GS doesn't win any long battery usage awards anyway

How will Google get your money? The network and the phone vendor are the only people who will get your money.

Actually scrap that, if that vendor happens to be HTC then Microsoft will get some of your money as well, cause they get money for every Android phone HTC sells.

Google will get your data. Except your didn't want to write that.

its called choice.

and yes, as kdarling mentioned, there is a setting in the browser to enable on demand access to plug-ins like flash.

I for one am shocked that having to load more data can slow a browser down.
Luckily I only use opera mini with images turned off.

Exactly. Android gives people choices.

If you don't want flash, don't install it.
If you want flash, dl it from the Market place. 10.1 is currently the most downloaded app with five star review.

Of course, those who never have flash on their phone will ridicule others for having options.

Jesus no. Not another Flash debate.
Steve's been a bit of a knob recently but he's right about Flash.
Now, can we get back to why the iPad sucks?

We start with, "is the faster"

but then, "is not super mega fast"

Flash is separate? Maybe the good point is not the update but the fact that is not bugging the phone as default.

And then the game is jerky(I mean the way to use it that suppose to be for a mouse) and then it slow down the scrolling, and it slow down the zooming.

But let's compare for a change!

On Wi-Fi....

The comparison done on Opera mini was made once on EDGE to show that could open 5 pages while Safari opened 1, but anyway who cares... let's test it! Mh... is so fast that actually the others load up before it even when they start after it(Opera)!

...and there is when I stopped to see the video.

EDIT: I forgot thanks Mr. Browser to load up the Ads, I truly need them.

Oh for christ sake… all they are doing is REPORTING what is happening…

…and what is happening is exactly what anyone with any knowledge on the subject had predicted. Flash would arrive late, in a buggy (“beta!”) form, only work on the most powerful, highest end phones and still be slow and crashy.

And no matter of spin or hype from Adobe is going to change that. Even Adobe's own demos of flash crash.

Bias.

And I would like to offer the highest praise to MacRumors editorial policy, because they have been very neutral on the whole debate. If you can find evidence of them being “biased against it given Apple's stance” then I suggest you provide it, otherwise I suggest…

Because this is an Apple website. Jobs said Flash hasn't performed really well. This article is showing what Jobs has said. It's all related. I'm sure if it ran flawlessly they'd post that too.

huh, what the heck are you talking about?

This is not about the speed of "loading a webpage". Of course, when loading flash content it will take longer. But taking down the complete browser and resulting in stuttering, low-memory warnings and VERY VERY POOR performance WHEN BROWSING is the sign of utter garbage software. This software might be beta but this beta for android was delayed FIVE TIMES already before release. It is just the reality, flash is garbage. It has always been like that actually. It is just now people are realizing that.

Apple has and will always about experience. If you will get a phone, it WILL be fluid. It might not do everything but those it does, Apple will guarantee that they run as expected and smoothly. It is not about "what", it is about "how". This video is perfect proof. Well, you have flash now but for most people they wont install it because it just ruins the whole thing.

You don't make a quality product by throwing crap at your customers, telling them "HEY, NOW YOU GOT MORE CHOICE. ENJOY!". You either think this is a quality product or your are willing to put up with a subpar product ("the best of both worlds"). Others don't, including Apple.

Couldn't help but notice the battery life drops while all three were being compared...

iPhone lost 3%, while the Flash-toting HTC seemed to lose closer to 15%.

Not that I'll argue that it's not nice to have the option of course. But it strikes me that the option would be less and less employed over time as people take to wanting more out of their battery. And it looked unresponsive enough to me in this iteration to label it as nothing more than a gimmick.

I don't know if I trust this story. It's like saying that it's slower on youtube because it has to load the youtube video.

Ahhhh choice!

Better having a choice than none at all. Isn't it great that life offers us choices everytime.

We have chosen elephants to fly...

I have chosen who my parents were and the country I will be living in...

I chose to be working rather than be filthy rich and sit on my ass...

Then we wake up that its all a dream. No there are some things we can choose to do and most are given to us. The thing that will separate us from one another is the actual decision if what was presented is good for us or not.

I am just amazed too at the patience for Adobe...if Apple have done that kind of mistake you can see a lot more pitchforks raised. :D

No need for that tone. I'm just pointing something out.

Look not everything is doom and gloom about Flash. What about this video reported by Engadget? The guy clearly says Flash playback is almost as smooth as a desktop/ laptop computer. Sure it's going to be buggy in places but I'd much prefer having the option than not at all.
