Simple logic, 2k of data loads faster than 200k of data regardless of file type. No real story here except that Google offers the option to turn Flash on or off.

This is not a surprise. Every time that I want to read some news or other content online, the page takes ETERNITY to load because some random, Flash-based advertisement is holding up the works. Sometimes Safari (or Firefox) refuses to show the rest of the page until the damn thing loads.

Just kill it already, seriously.

Did you guys even bother to watch the full video? The websites with flash in some cases on the Nexus One was downright frustrating to watch. It must be even more of a pain to use.

There is no 'fixing' for this. The only solution is more computing power (laptop level) or no flash at all.

Better to have the choice to view Flash if you want rather than no choice at all. Looks pretty good actually! And this version of Flash is beta, so hopefully it'll get better still. Google are doing a really great job with Android right now, there's a lot of impressive things coming from them just now.

"Hopefully it'll get better still." Snort.

Three years later, with processors many times faster and much more system memory, optimized web browsing, and this is what they can do. The Froyo browser is faster, it seems. But it squanders all that, and is often slower than Mobile Safari, and much clunkier in scrolling, unintentional clicking, etc., just so it can play Flash.

Why do you think it will actually get better? THIS IS THE WAY THAT IT ACTS IN BROWSERS ON DESKTOPS! Your page won't load? Flash ads. You have a YouTube video on the page? Well, wait for it. All this pandering by Google for an old and stupid technology that we don't need anymore.

Why put Flash animated games on the iPhone, which is an excellent real gaming platform? Why use up all those processor cycles and battery for bloatware in the interest of compatibility with the worst, proprietary pig on the Web?

Typical fanboy answer, you don't want or need flash because Steve jobs said you don't want or need flash.

How about someone think that would be great having it but then this video proves not. Is that legit or ought to be a Steve-driven decision?

Cloud Browse

I would think for the times one would want flash content, they could use Cloud Browse on iPhone...I would think the Dev will update it to run smoother too.
So there is a choice in a separate browser that will hopefully get updated.
I would use it maybe 10% of all browsing time but do have the option 'if' needed.
Peace

Personally, I don't think Stevie should have any authority over the future of Flash.

Personally, I think it should be the consumer (the internet users) who have say, but since we don't actually have a voice, I'm glad someone is standing up and saying this.

You will never convince me that proprietary plug-ins are good for anyone, except the proprietor.

Steve has my permission to keep on with this crusade.

Typical fanboy answer, you don't want or need flash because Steve jobs said you don't want or need flash.

Really? And on the other side of *that* argument are people who would declare your comment to be a typical troll response. I wouldn't be so stupidly narrow-minded as to call you a troll, but someone with your logic and my position most definitely would.

Jobs you smug bastard, stop laughing!

Steve - you were right, we were wrong. I'm sorry.

Well I feel like this is kinda a duh thing, of course it takes more power to display a flash page than a static page.

Turn off images and it will load and scroll faster yet!

LOL.

Look, as always, the software drives the hardware, ensuring enough is never enough. With mobile processors surpassing the Gigahertz milestone, limiting our software choices will soon be nothing more than someone limiting us, not a "Hardware Forced" decision.

Snapdragon is already pushing 1.5ghz, and no doubt we will be seeing faster and faster mobile processors every year.

Nice, how it should be - people who do not want it, do not instal it. People who want to try it out, can.

It is Beta - see what Adobe does with it.

When I got my iphone it was the only real show in town, I do not think that is the case right now... Android 2.2, flash 10.1, and Firefox Mobile are good reasons for me to take a look.

its called choice.

and yes, as kdarling mentioned, there is a setting in the browser to enable on demand access to plug-ins like flash.

No, it's called supporting a technology past its time. If you allow Flash to work on your phone, people won't change their websites to something that makes sense. Hey, I can't get telegrams on my iPhone! Fix that, Google!

I don't buy the whole "better to have a choice" argument. If everything that could have a choice was implemented, you would have a million options. At some point the inventor needs to make a decision about what a device does and move on.

Do I want my phone to show a monochrome display instead of color? No. Could they make it an option? Sure!

Apple's strength comes from having the ability to take an infinite number of options and simplify it to the point where they make simple and usable products.

This isn't a beef against Flash per se, just the whole "better to have a choice" argument. Your choice in the Flash case is another device, not the iPhone. Don't expect it to make toast anytime in the near future either.

Nah, it was pretty cool...

Am I the only one who thinks playing those flash games was pretty cool?

Am I the only one who is interested on watching Hulu on their phone (yes froyo users can do this with a minor modification)?

It's just a beta version of flash. It's still cool, and there should still be the option.

That looked about how I'd want it to be... Frankly I'm not hanging on the edge of my seat for web pages to load on a smart phone... an extra second or two is a small price to pay for being able to get what you want.

Personally I'm not big into annoying crap. So I don't surf pages that have annoying crap on them, be it Flash, javascript, any iteration of html or any other form of annoying crap, because it's all the same annoying crap. One strike and you're out. I think I need to say annoying crap again. Annoying crap.

As we all know, Flash is the major malfunction - numbnuts, where numbnuts is Adobe and Steve Jobs is right.

And with 17% [sorry, 16.8%] of Verizon customers saying that they are "very likely" to purchase an iPhone [according to Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty], it looks like the Stupidly named Nexus one is failing badly.

i have a nexus one with flash and don't really care for it. There are many more other reasons to get an android phone besides flash.

Give me the option to view flash or not. Let me make my own decision. Google will get my money and not Apple next time I buy a phone. Choices are good.

Give me the option to view the website in flash or not. Let me make my own decision. The website that doesn't require flash to view their content will get my money and not the one that forces me to use a 3rd party plugin next time. Choices are good.

I think you must have the Mac in mind rather than Windows PCs. Flash works, and it works well. I can turn it on and off as I desire. I'm sorry if your experience on the Mac isn't the same, but hey, you did pick a computer with a tiny marketshare, so you can't really complain that all software isn't super optimised. Maybe you should have got a Windows PC if you didn't want a crappy Flash experience then eh?

The Nexus One isn't on Verizon, so that poll there isn't really saying anything about the Nexus One.

hehe, I've just installed "Click to flash" on my mbp and wonder by wonder MacRumors loads noticeably faster without the ads on it. (at least the flash ads that is)

LOL

are adobe and google really going to allow average froyo users to use the beta?

the proliferation of the beta among froyo devices will be the final nail in Flash's mobile device coffin.

People have been deprived flash on their phones. They will soon have it in an unfinished form. The experience will be less than optimal. People will deactivate it, and I can't see Adobe fixing the mindshare problem associated with it.

Choices are not good.

Your mum/dad won't understand what that "choice" even means.

Apple doesn't develop products for nerds.
