WeChat Users Group Sues Trump Administration Over 'Unconstitutional' Ban

This is the oldest and most tired defense trotted out there. It is confirmed that TikTok is actively capturing real time GPS locations on installed devices. This means that the CCP has real time knowledge of any member of the military or intelligence community with TikTok on their device. That is and of itself is enough. Not to mention all of the other demographic data and contact information being accessed and stored IN CHINA from those devices.

I have a business with partners who are Chinese. All our our data, including Chinese domestic market and European market info, is stored on servers in the U.S. We have assets here and in China. No one is worried. We’re in a global economy. Relax, the Red Scare is not coming for you. Worry more about your own government. They are trying to kill you as we speak, for profit, no less.

The funny thing is any threat by China or elsewhere isn’t through through WeChat or TikTok. Worrying about Chinese apps is like being upset about a hangnail when you’re missing a leg

If Trump wants to ban Chinese apps, then maybe he should consider banning iPhones as well. Supply chain attack might as well already happen for those iPhones being assembled in China.

When tension is present, what’s the right response? Intensify it? Or try to at least maintain the status quo or better yet, diffuse it? Are world leaders feeling so insecure that only a World War III could ease their feeling? I doubt it.

Anecdotes are not evidence. Just because your business doesn’t hand data over the the CCP does not mean that Bytedance and WeChat don’t either. They do have servers in China and anyone who knows anything about China knows that when the government comes asking for data, you have no choice but to comply.

Let’s not forget Huawei either. Same principle.

Speculation is not evidence. There is no evidence that any of those apps handed over information about US citizens to the CCP.

The whole thing is we can’t prove they’re doing it or they’re not doing it so they must be doing it 🤦‍♂️

tell that to all the anti chinese hate crime going around the country that the media is not giving any spotlights to
You are asking this lot to have an understanding of real world issues. Hate and opposition is the only thing they're interested in.

I don't think everyone here is hateful but fear can cause people to be hateful. People have been conditioned that China and Chinese people are bad. I thought that too. I mean it's on the news so it must be true. Then I made Chinese friends and visited China. It was not the China on US television

As I write there are 4 users who actually disagree and presumably think it's ok for racism to be in fashion. Sad world.
People are scared of things they don't understand. Racism can be from fear. I don't think they're evil or hateful people... At least I hope not but perhaps they just don't know.

Love it, I hope they sue and win.

If you look how the standard of living of the lower and middle class in China has dramatically risen over the last 10 years compared to the stagnation of and even reduction here in the west, then clearly China is doing something right, even if not everyone may agree with it.

The question is who here in the west is responsible for selling out?

The elephant in the room is what this boils down to is racism. Facebook does everything TickTock does but it’s owned by a Caucasian so it's okay. TikTok is owned by a Chinese so it’s not okay.

We've so far came to the conclusion in the USA that it’s not OK to be racist against African-Americans and maybe sometimes it’s not OK to be racist against Mexican Americans but it’s OK to be racist against Chinese people because they’re bad🤦‍♂️
It has nothing to do with the ethnicity of the people but the country itself. There is nothing racist about a country defending itself from an aggressor. Was it racist to fight the Germans in ww2? Or the Japanese? Let’s not forget china literally has concentration camps for Muslims.

Banning an app that could be used as spyware by a foreign dictatorship isn’t unconstitutional. The Founding Fathers would have done the same thing if such technology existed in their time and the British Empire was spying on Americans to track dissidents.

A lot of assumption packed in there. Who gets to make the decision that a product falls into a "bannable" class? This is why we have due process in America.

Well based on your logic, the rest of the world should ban Instagram, Twitter, Whatsapp, Skype, Snapchat, Facebook, All of Google, Linkedin, Yahoo Mail, Microsoft OneDrive, DropBox, iCloud, Windows, and MacOS because it could be used to collect data from their citizens and be spied on by the US gov.

And how did that work out for Huawei? https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...al-law-restricting-its-business-idUSKBN20C2M9

I would read and re-read the constitution and federal law. Any time the word national security is raised courts typically uphold the government action if anything with a semblance of being logical

There is certainly at least some uncontroverted evidence Wechat is used by the China's government to monitor citizens in some fashion; which extends into the US borders. ALL this affects is inside US borders; POTUS' orders only affect the 50 states.

The US government doesn't have a recent history of gross human rights abuses in our country like China (arguably some but nowhere near the severity of China- like night and day). HUGE HUGE difference. Our country respects free speech and the 1st Amendment (even if some dont like that)

Most of those ARE banned in China. And not national security but because free information and opinions is frowned upon by China's overlords.

Comparing Facebook/MS/Google/Apple, private corporations, to a government is a VERY different argument. Negating the fact by CHOOSING TO USE those services you AGREE via contract to have some of your data collected and used. You dont get a choice to agree in China, they simply do to you for being a citizen and if you argue you are "disappeared"

China isn't an aggressor

Let's not forget USA literally has concentration camps for Mexicans.

Now let's get real and why don't you go back to school and learn history. Stop calling everything you don’t like Nazi, Hitler, and a concentration camp 🤦‍♂️

I don’t support what America is doing in that regard either, non the less the Muslims in China are treated far worse and are actual citizens of their country rather than illegal immigrants. China blocking us companies is a level of aggression and doesn’t change the fact that you can’t call something racist that has to do with a country rather than its people. Bringing up schooling when nothing I said is incorrect is quite a funny way to try to deflect from that fact tho😆

How do you know how Muslims are treated in China? Did you learn this on MSNBC? Perhaps CNN told you how they are treated in China? You’re watching propaganda and think you know something that you don’t really know. I brought up education as not a way to deflect but rather you clearly don’t understand what a concentration camp is. I’ve visited real concentration camps in Germany. You can still see the ashes from people that were murdered and their bodies burned in ovens. If you think there’s concentration camps in the USA or China you’ve bought on to the political propaganda.

Lmao, I didn’t know it has to be identical to Germany to be considered such. I guess a pc and Mac aren’t both computers because they aren’t identical. I never said the us had such but way to keep bringing things up I never said. Enjoy making things up no one said to deflect because you don’t know the definition of racism. Also maybe learning comprehension is a class you should consider taking up.

Here is the definition of concentration camp since you are intelligent to the point of knowing when others need to go back to school

I travel there several times a year, Vietnam, Taiwan and others. I have made many dear friends. All should travel more. People are people. When the pandemic hit us, I’ve received several unsolicited packages with mask, including child size ones as they all remembered I have a daughter, along with messages of solidarity and comfort.

...plus the food over there. Can’t wait to go back. My wings are clipped though due to the pandemic. Haven’t been there since December.

how about Facebook, Google, and Youtube in China?

That's a 'different' view

Funny how things quickly flip doesn't it. If China has the rights to what it whats, then why cant U.S?

Freedom of speech always gets in the way of laws. Instead, they should be playing peacefully.
