What hostile moves has China made against us?
We (Trump, more specifically) imposed tariff.
We interjected ourselves into regional dispute. (Imagine if China budded into our political discourse regarding "the wall" and Mexican immigration.
We are the ones taking an aggressive stand.
Obama had it right. He drew a line in the sand. Chinese respected it and were willing to negotiate. There are right and wrong ways to approach things. What we're doing is wrong. Yes, China's policy of forced technology transfer is wrong. We can deal with it without destroying their economy and our own. Look up how many American farmers have gone out of business in the past two-three years. You'll be shocked.
Before you get into the whole human rights debacle. Sure, China is mistreating muslim minority. They are in fact committing a human rights violations, but what they are doing pales in comparison to us staring an illegal war that has killed 200,000 people, eradicating an entire population of native Americans, slavery and it's modern repercussions (including the frequent murder of black man by police) and the concentration camps we've set up for Japanese Americans during WWII and hispanic immigrants now.
I have a very simple point -- before we point a finger, we really need to honestly take a look in the mirror. We have done awful things. Continue to do so today. What we should all be doing is appealing to our common humanity. To our shared values, because having been to China many times, I can tell you -- they want the same thing. Peace, security for their children, prosperity and a voice, hope and a sense of personal freedom.
I'm sure you're thinking -- they don't have any freedom. Let me tell you, I've never felt unsafe there. I've never worried about someone shooting. People there seem happy. Isn't security and happiness the goal of all people? They are governing themselves in a way that is different. So what? Do you think you're free? Look at our country. A tiny minority controls our government. We no longer have a democracy. A corporate oligarchy at best. I'll bet if you ask an average Chinese person, they will tell you they want the same thing. I've said it before, government -- any government -- isn't really your friend. Who is whispering in their (collective) ear? It's not you. It's not me. It's the corporate interest, the party leaders, those in power. It's all the same.
Humanity has a choice. We can unite, recognize our common goals, values and ideals. Or we can continue to find ways to hate one another. Have you ever noticed how America always has a boogieman? If it's not Russia, it's middle eastern terrorists. If it's not them, it's China. Why do you think this is the case? Meanwhile, we have people marching in the streets with swastika flags. White, Trump-loving nut jobs mailing pipe bombs. White supremacists killing people in Wisconsin -- violating our first amendment rights. It's time for us to wake up.
If you read this -- thank you. It's a rant. A long one. But I hope you, the reader, consider it. Think about it. Independently and objectively. We have more in common than what divides us. It's time to realize it.
