iPod touch Week 38 = Good iPods?

Pictures from mine (a 1A737 model with Macy Gray picture purchased today). Two of the pictures are from dark scenes with lots of blacks from the season premiere of "Prison Break." The other two are from the screen test patterns page that has been referenced all over the place on these forums.
Keep in mind that I'm not working with natural light here (it's getting dark on the east coast), so the pictures are a bit grainy from the camera.
EDIT: I should also add that these pictures were taken with the out-of-the-box defaults for brightness, including the Auto-Brightness being enabled.

I have week 38 and screen still bad
I exchanged my week 37 which had a dark screen for a new one this morning and the week 38 one I recieved still has the faulty dark screen. I am not sure what to do now I thought week 38 ones were suppose to be good. Anyone else have a similar experience?

same picture look really bad on the touch. also I watch prison break on it, the dark scene is very bad.
I got mine from vanns, called them up, they will do a refund for me if I mail it back within 15 days, but I have to paid for the shipping. and they don't have more 16gb in stock. I just have to wait for the next batch.

I live in New Hampshire! Cool! I'm glad you got a good screen dude. I just ordered mine online the day it was announced and I got a "week 38" and my screen is perfect and no hissing sounds!
By the way, I tested my 5G iPod (Video) and that does hiss when music is not playing.
so the tests above are the best ways of testing to check your screen?
btw im looking to get a touch in the states (i live in UK) when im on holiday and want to check it before i take it home, wont be able to check with album covers n movies becaseu i wont have a computer to add them with.

Was in Best Buy and saw they had 166 GB models in stock so I just picked one up...and cancelled the Apple pre-order I made on 9/9 that still wasn't shipped yet.

My week 37 wasn't terrible, but I returned it for a 38 at the apple fifth ave store yesterday and am very happy I did. I showed the genius the jay z album cover and was about to laugh when he said "I don't see anything, oh wait, there's a person." Needless to say the return was effortless after my point was made so clearly. Happy to report no screen issues with my new "macy" 38.
Well you won't be able to check it properly because you need a Mac/PC to "activate" the iPod Touch. Otherwise you'll just get a "Connect to iTunes" display...
I replaced a "37" I bought at best buy with a "38" which I again bought at best buy. The screen is a lot better. The detail in the dark screens show up now. Just bring up the test video posted on the board with the grayscale image and the square swatches. On the "37" All the low end blacks looked all the same to me. On the "38" you can see the difference. I brought up movies with dark detail and you can see it a lot better now.
everyone keeps talking about the issues with the negative display effect. What about dead pixels? I've returned my ipod touch twice and all three models I received have at 3 pixels, and my latest one has about 16 dead pixels. Am I too anal or meticulous?
Is anyone else not noticing these problems?? I'm curious if the week 38 ipods have dead pixels, because although it seems they fixed the contrast issues, the pixel quality still suck.

Replacement
Just got my week 37 replaced at the Apple Store in Pentagon City. My old one had the negative black problem, and one of the genius' confirmed it, even saying that he was aware of the problem.
Anyway, my new one starts 1A738... and it is most definitely good. Watching the matrix on my original was almost impossible, and now it is beautiful. The audio is also excellent. Hopefully my invisible shield will come soon so I can take this out for a joy ride!

Make sure apple gives you a flawless or almost flawless (read, not noticeable problem) iPod. Seriously, for $400, you should expect that. I would also consider giving one of the many "stuck" pixel websites a try.

Just got the Macy Gray 16GB Week 38 iPouch touch and the video is perfect. The exchange for the old 36 week touch was seemless.
I think you will be OK. I have seen a lot of post of 1A737.... being good. I have no problem with mine. No negative or hissing! I love it!
I have a week 38 with dead pixels, has this happened to anyone else? Will best buy let me exchange it again?

I have a week 38 iPod touch. When I watch tv shows, movies, music videos, and video podcasts I do not see the black negative affect, but I do see it on some youtube videos. Do people who are complaining about the negative affect see it on iTunes videos and youtube, or just youtube as well as me?
