I have a week 37 Corinne Bailey Rae iPod touch with the defective screen. I called apple support and they are sending me a replacement. Will it definitely be a week 38 or later model?

Week 38, Macy Gray box, perfect screen with the Jay-Z test. I got it from Best Buy today.

My bad screen week 37 touch will go back to the Apple store next week.

This device is AWESOME!!! It really is a computer & an amazing touch iPod in your pocket. I've been using Treos and other "web devices" this truly is the real internet, it really rocks.

For those with bad screens, hang in and get a week 38 it truly is a great device!

Enjoy all.

Week 38 with Corinne Bailey Rae on the front (ordered the day Apple announced it, got it in 2 days ago), no screen problems at all.

Is there an easy test pic I can view on my week 37 (corinne box) touch? Bought it in the UK on Wednesday and it seems ok but would be nice to prove it is!!

I took my week 36 negative screen touch to an Apple Genius today. The second I mentioned it, he was well aware of the problem. He said they've put out a notice to hold selling current stock and wait for a fresh batch.

This is probably the best news I've heard all week. Seems like perfect reassurance that Apple are not trying to get away with selling 36 and 37's and hoping people don't notice (many other companies would try it), and that online orders reading "not yet shipped" / a slipped delivery date are almost certainly that way for a good reason.

DL that AVP trailer and you will see. Watch that tail the Alien shoves threw his spine. If you can see it real clear coming your fine.

My 37 model it was not clear till after it went In.

I don't understand how a slipped delivery date equates to good screens. If it was the shipping date, that makes sense.

I know what you mean, the shipping date says the 28th as it always has... but I think that's a static override they've put in ("by the 28th" no matter what the real date is) whereas the delivery date is calculated from the *real* shipping date which we don't see.

That's why I think the shipping date is probably the 1st or 2nd of October, and thus reflects delays at their end (e.g. while new batches are manufactured). The original idea was probably to put "by the 28th" (and calculate the delivery date with an "if deliverydate < 01/10/07 then deliverydate=01/10/07" in there) and surprise people with early deliveries, but of course with the screen problems it kinda backfired!

I ordered mine on the 5th (8 gig) just shipped today from china sept 22, serial number is (1B73803HW4N) i guess i have a week 38 one then right? Takes awhile for us canadians to get them.

I called 2 Apple Stores that are near me (5th Ave in NYC and SOHO in NYC).

I asked the rep at the 5th Ave store whether he knew anything about the touch having screen problems (so I could ask whether the serial number is (9c738xxxx or 37xxxx) and he just flat out said "NO!" he didn't know about any screen problems at all.

I then called the SOHO location and asked the rep there whether she can tell me the serial number on one of the iPod touch units they have in stock, and she said she can't. Then I asked whether she can just say yes or no if I tell her the serial number and she asked me why. I told her there have been many reports of screen problems in the first shipments of iPod touch units and of course she said "We haven't had any reports of iPod touch units with bad screens. If yours has one, bring it in."

So apparently Apple hasn't officially released that statement [http://crunchgear.com/2007/09/20/apple-admits-to-faulty-ipod-touch-screens-fixing-problem-now/] and told all of its employees to deny faulty screens.

To the people who got week 38 units, you ordered them from Apple online, or do some Apple retail stores have them?

I called the Apple Store on 5th Avenue in NYC this morning at 8am, and asked if they had any new shipments in for the Touch. They did, so I left my apartment in Brooklyn, rode 2 trains into the City.

I asked the clerk if I could have a 16GB Touch, and before she swiped my card, if I could take a quick look on the back on the box at the serial number... low and behold, 9C7238******.

I grinned inside.

I'm here sat on my sofa with my brand new Touch (I have already returned one to the store due to the screen issue we were all having), threw in an episode of 24, a photo or 2 (hi res, rich color depth, deep darks), and an album with medium-toned artwork...

GOOOOORGEOOOOUUUUS.

It would seem evident that the "38 week" releases are tip top, for those that are in the market to replace or just buy their first model, ask at the counter to check the back of the box for the 38 in the serial number - the 4th and 5th digits.

Sweet - I'm a very happy man.

If you pre-ordered from the apple store, you can go to your order details and click on print invoice. There you look for the Serial No. and you should see something like 9C7238xxxxxx. The number I bolded signifies the week of production :D
