Where did you purchase your phone?
Your better off buying at your local Apple store open the box instore inspect the phone before you leave they do straight swap.

First one was apple online, second one Currys. Yes your right may stick with the SE a little while until I can get to an apple store.

The QC is just horrible on the XS line. Feels like it was rushed or they let go half the staff that setup the equipment to make the phones.

+1 to the above issues. Apple was more than happy to replace the device.

These "sharp edges" are the result of a poor fit between the front display assembly and the steel housing which the display assembly sits in. iPhone X probably had these issues too, but it's probably noticeable now thanks to the larger screens on the iPhone XS Max.

I've made a video documenting this issue:

Edit:
Forgot to mention that in the Apple Store, an Apple rep acknowledged that they've seen a number of such cases / complaints regarding the Max (and are likely to replace it). It's a known issue.

I have opened 16 Xs boxes to find a number of issues straight out of box, with the major ones being rough edges and debris in between the bezels. I’m in Queensland, Australia. I decided to return my XS, and give the Max a try. This time, I ordered it online, and it came from Sydney, Australia. Same rough edges on one side, some debris in the corner, and mushy side button. Not horribly rough, but the opposite side is smooth for the most part. I was surprised to find this thread about the Max. It seems the entire lineup of XS is plagued by poor manufacturing and probably the rushing of assembly. I really hope this issue gets escalated and noticed. I already sent an email to Tim Cook regarding the poor quality. Surprised this is a world wide issue as well, but somewhat relieved knowing it wasn’t just Australia that got a bad shipment, which is what I had initially thought.

I've literally waited for a month because I knew that early phones were going to be flooded with quality problems. I've got my SC Xs this Sunday and I'm located in Central Europe. Everything is flush, except the edge on the back side of the phone under the SIM tray. The sharp part of the edge is about 5 centimeters (2 inches) long. It's not too bad, but it's bad enough that you clearly feel it scratching your palm when you pick up the phone. It's annoying as hell and driving me crazy. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I just wanted to share so people know that "small" Xs is affected too, the issue still persists and that units in our region are affected as well.

EDIT: I've tried buffing the edge with reasonably rough cloth for three minutes and it's a lot better now. There's still small gap between the stainless steel and glass but the edge doesn't scratch your hand at all anymore. Bottom (lightning side) edge is actually worse now, which is good, because I didn't even notice it wasn't perfect before. This is good enough for me for now.

the same problem, on both sides of the phone (front and back) and they rejecting my reclamation.

Hahaha not trying to start a gate, and not a huge deal, just don't know whether it was a build quality issue on mine alone and should get it switched out or if that's just how it is.

Only slightly apparent on the edges, but very apparent on the sides.
Go into any wireless carrier or an Apple store and see if the iPhones that are on display are the same as yours
If you think that they’re a better build quality then take your iPhone back to Apple
Remember one thing ,,,,,,,Use good judgement as no iPhone is perfect
