I have this on my M2 Air. I had it before and found it’s somehow related to FileVault.

MacBook Pro M1 Pro and same issue. Also had it freeze up on a black screen this morning, a restart fixed it.

Hi!
Same here on a MacBook Pro m1 14", it's weird, since the 13.3 update makes the flickering black during 1 sec. when boots and after that works normally 🤷‍♂️. Clearly it's a bug, I hope Apple will keep an eye on it.

Yeah, same here. I contacted Apple and they said it was an hardware issue, though, I am thinking this a software glitch due to the update.

After a factory reset the issue disappears on the home screen after boot but same flickering black appears booting while apple logo loads and on the login screen once again, two times every boot, on the logo and after that on the login screen. I contacted Apple and they said it's a normal thing because Mac OS is testing some sensors , sounds a bit fishy but, it's true that after booting the machine works fine.

yeah they can say whatever they want but its due to the 13.3 update..mine has NEVER EVER done that before til the update came out..

I have the same problem, MacOS starts and then few seconds after my screen go black for one or two seconds and after that everything is working perfectly. I tried reseting MacOS, I even tried a clean install but it's still here. Once it even lasted 5 to 6 seconds. It's only on my Macbook Pro 14 with M1 pro, Mac mini M1 doesn't have the issue.

I have an appointment at the Apple Store next friday, i'll show them directly. In the meantime if anyone have any news about this, please let us know :)

Hi again, sorry for the double message but I just did some testing after reading the previous post about sensors, and maybe it's indeed a sensor bug cause when my room is very bright the screen went dark about 1 sec, 2 sec max. Then I tried turning off the light before rebooting and this time it stayed black 4 or 5 seconds ...

yeah whatever this sensor issue is if that is what it is only started with the 13.3 update never ever happened before

Yes, same here … I hope they’ll fix it soon cause it’s really annoying. I have to wait for it to happen every time I boot my Mac before being able to use it … Maybe I’ll get some answer on Friday( but I’m not confident they’ll be able to help at the Apple Store …

Nobody else with this issue ? It's strange that so few of us are talking about it while I consider it to be a big issue ... I tried to get an earlier appointment at the Apple Store but nothing availible before friday.

You're lucky :)

I have this on my M2 Air. I had it before and found it’s somehow related to FileVault.
After reading your message, I tried to turn off filevault, at first I thought the issue was fixed, but the problem happened just earlier in the process. With filevault it's after the startup when you're already on your desktop but without filevault it happened just before when the login screen appeared.

yeah I had read about turning off filevault but dont want to after reading that it doesnt really solve anything..let me know what happens with your appt I guess this issue is not widespread but its still affecting plenty of people its frustrating to have the screen do that once when I put in my password to login and again when Im on the desktop

Hello! It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with your MacBook Pro after updating to 13.3. It's possible that this could be a software issue, or it could be related to your hardware.

Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the problem:

  1. Reset the SMC (System Management Controller): Shut down your MacBook Pro, then press and hold the Shift + Control + Option keys along with the power button for 10 seconds. Release all the keys, then power on your MacBook Pro again.
  2. Check for updates: Make sure that your MacBook Pro is running the latest version of macOS. To check for updates, go to System Preferences > Software Update.
  3. Try Safe Mode: Restart your MacBook Pro and immediately hold down the Shift key until the Apple logo appears. This will start your MacBook Pro in Safe Mode, which will help you determine if the problem is caused by a third-party app or login item.
  4. Reset NVRAM/PRAM: Shut down your MacBook Pro, then press the power button to turn it on. Immediately hold down the Option + Command + P + R keys. Keep holding them until you hear the startup sound twice, then release the keys.
If none of these steps work, it may be a good idea to contact Apple support or take your MacBook Pro to an authorized Apple service provider for further assistance.

hope this will be helpful for you.
thanks.
being on the updated version of 13.3 is the reason why this happened in the first place..will wait for the next update should fix the issue..the macbook pro was perfect til the update came out

Thank you for your message, but the issue came from the last update. And for information SMC and NVRAM are only for mac with intel processor. No such manipulation with Apple Silicon :)

That's it .. I juste hope Apple will have enough return to release an update

Hello 👍🏻 So I went to the Genius bar this evening and I showed them the issue.

First they said it was the first time they heard about it. They did a full diagnostic of the Mac, nothing.

Then they proposed me to reset my M1 SOC with configurator, diagnostic everything was fine with my MacBook and after reset we created a new user session …. Issue still here.

For the tech it’s definitely a software issue, he told me he will send a report to the engineer at Apple. And that I have to wait it to be fixed in the next update or the one after. If still happened after that they check my MacBook again.

So I’ll have to live with if for now … how annoying >_<
