thats true d.velop
the 8800 is on his way so that would be the next possible solution and 10.5.2 following
I hope that my problem s now solved
good luck to us all

Yea, I'll order the 8800, too, as soon as it available.
Maybe they've been hold back, because they had some trouble with it as well...?

I woke up from sleep today (my computer not me) and hopped on Youtube with Safari and it locked up. I got a 30x30 pixel box near the back button with the fuzzy stuff. I had to restart with the power button.

The mouse still moved around normally and iTunes was still playing. Any idea what it was?

Yes, It's the same crap the other posters in this thread are/have been dealing with.
I know 10 pages is a lot to read but start with the first one and as you read further you'll get the picture.

My replacement machine is still working just fine. *says prayer, knocks on wood and many other things*
So far so good for about 20 hours (6.5 of those I was asleep).

Should I demand a replacement? I have no problems otherwise. I've read most of this thread, and saw the screen shots, also heard a few replacements and upgrades, etc... 10 pages alot though, thanks for the reply!

Who do I call and what do I tell them? I haven't taken a picture of the issue, I don't want them to think I'm BS'ing. I'm guessing Applecare?

Just asking incase someone else has a number to a place with more authority.

I don't think a replacement machine is the answer to your problems. I have read a couple people have already got replacements with the same problem.

I also called Apple Care about this problem. Since I have called them I haven't had the screen lock up issue or graphic issue on the screen. They didn't really know what the problem could be.

I rather get it replaced... If that's the least they can do. Applecare won't know, that's normal, no tech support over the phone is going to know a problem like this, a replacement is the least they can do on a $4k computer.

OMG! I just had the notorious screen flicker issues, little like static marks all over on the 30" ACD. Is this a monitor issue or a computer issue?

LOL have you been reading this thread at all???

It's a computer issue.

Probably the same computer issue we've all seen here on this thread.
I was skeptical about getting a replacement, but again so far so good with
this one.

I would call Applecare and let them know. They may tell you that it's an unusual problem
(trying to cover up their knowledge of the situation) but in the end it's worth it, both for you and for Apple.
The more people send back their machines the bigger the message to Apple.

I am not bothering getting a replacement with the ATi card im waiting for a replacement with the 8800GT, it's obvious it's the ATi card messing things up.

I'm returning my Mac Pro and ordering a 8 core... Mac was easy to deal with... I suggest everyone with a hint of a problem do the same.

Should I reformat before returning it? I don't want any of my personal data going along with it.

Thats good but you will probably get the same issues with the 8 core as you have already had. I have sent back 2 already and this one is going back in a couple of weeks too, all 8 core.

Hmmm, that's a bummer, what can we do?

Right now??? Nothing really, wait for Apple to get this crap situation sorted hopefully they aren't going to make us wait much longer. But like I say I have ordered a replacement with the 8800GT not gonna stick with the ATi card.

Like some other people, my bad card had the same part number as d.velop's good card: 102B3610100, so I don't think the part number is an indicator.

Just typical ATI crap. Really annoying I hope they hurry with the 8800 cards im not even bothering with the ATI anymore.

I don't need the extra power the 8800 has to offer. I rather put the $200 towards something else. I might be forced to get it anyway. :( Is Apple even aware of the problem?

Well if you don't want to get the 8800, you can just wait it out for Apple to find out its a Graphic card issue like they did with New Alum iMacs. That fix came like 2 or 3 months later with a software update.

I've got two ATI cards in my New Mac Pro. However, my new monitor is still in transit, so I haven't hooked it up yet. Hopefully, I won't have any problems....crossing fingers. We should find out Monday or Tuesday.

I'm tearing my hair out, because I'm waiting for the penryn core Macbook Pros - that's a month away at least. I ordered a Mac Pro and now I have to send it back, I can't order a replacement because all of the Ati cards are fried. The 8800GT is shipping in 3 weeks minimum, it's also $200 more, not that I can't afford it, but I don't need it.

I really wish Apple put some more effort into getting this issue resolved.

2-3 months? In that amount of time Apple will have dished out about 3 times as many replacement MP's as they originally sold. Excuse me, I need to call my broker. ;)

I've still only had this issue once, but I when ahead and fired off an email to Apple from their feedback/support page, with a link to this forum. I don't think my one-time issue warrants an exchange, but I did wish to add my voice to those who've contacted Apple. If the number of us with the issue increases on the board, I'll go ahead and call them with my concerns. I don't know if a phone call holds any more weight with them than an email, but the more they hear about the problems we're having, hopefully, the quicker they'll move to a resolution.

I called AppleCare yesterday and they were not aware of the problem...
Just because I told him that I switched the cards in my MPs and figured out the problem, I was able to convince him that all I need a is gfx-card.
They ordered a replacement and I can use this broken one for the time waiting...
