Fuzzy text after UPDATE.

I can barely read out what I'm typing but it seems to be faulty drivers for the ATI 2600XT. Reboot doesn't seem to solve it either.

I hope Apple is hard at work on this.

I think ATi should contribute a good amount of effort as well don't you?

That was implied, my friend. Put those rolling eyes away for another time. Apple has had this out for almost a month; they should have fixed this one week after discovery since it's geared towards their Prosumers who don't have time to baby their system, a system that's suppose to "Just work".

LOL I always have my rolling eyes ready ;)

Yes in an ideal world this should have never appeared but it obviously is something thats effecting peoples systems and a problem they need to sort asap.
These are a new model of machine as well so things like this tend to happen.

tried, and ****ed up...

Here I'm back and what I did this morning was exchanging the cards from both MPs (the good and the bad, as I mentioned before)...

So here it comes: the good machine with the bad card crashed an hour ago.
The bad machine with the good card ran just fine all the day.

Guess I have to ask for a replacement... :apple:

Ah ha! So it's a bad card eh? If that's true, it confirms what I tried to tell the product specialist at Apple. I wonder if there's a bad batch or if it's more than that?

Tracking down from the label on the card:

Good:
P/N 102B3610100 S/N 6407510048xx
Bad:
P/N 102B3610200 S/N 6407500015xx

Maybe it helps... hope I did't permute'em :p

What card are you using?

"nobody should be asking how I can get another card :)" What do you mean here?

I am using a Quadro FX5600. Just take a wild guess as to how I can get it, as Apple haven't officially ship it yet, I don't think :)

Look like board problem - the part number suggest that it is a newer "spin" of the board, or might be different SKU.

Damn, just rebooted from a bad freeze again...

It's definitely the "bad card". Screenshots do always work (but shutdown doesn't) and they look very bad. So it's not "just the output" of the card.

Have you signed an NDA recently?

I am sure the company I worked for did, so that's why I don't want to say too much, as I don't officially work with the side that deal with Apple. I might have bad information as well, so I only want to say what I personally have experience with or know about.

maybe this helps

i m a macpro owner from the beginning of intel
just bought my 1st macpro
received it the 22nd an early macpro 2008
3.0 4g 2x1Tb 1x320 Hdd 2600
had the screening problem after 2days even the complete shutdown
this happens mostly with safari and itunes open
48 hours ago closed time machine
after that no screening problems and no shut down
had time machine on the 320g Hdd WD
was on the macpro originaly with osx installed on it
booth it to the samsung Hdd.
so far so good throwing the WD out

I am pretty certain now IT IS! the ATI Video cards.

The apple guy I am speaking too seems to think so too, I may be going for a different card.

I'm running time machine on both machines (one has a second drive, the other got four drives) but only one freezes (the one with the bad gfxcard).
Anyway I'll consider that and agree to that safari-thing, because that's what I tought, too. But this is maybe because it's one of the most used apps on osx ;)

thats true d.velop
the 8800 is on his way so that would be the next possible solution and 10.5.2 following
I hope that my problem s now solved
good luck to us all

It's NOT Safari, I have had crashes without it even being open not even open in the dock.

Well, got my new machine a few hours ago and so far so good.

BTW, I got a different part number on the vid card than the one I sent back.
It's the same as your good card.

Also, for those discussing Time Machine, I didn't use Time Machine at all and still had these issues.

sorry if it was'nt clear
itunes or safari wasn't the problem for me
My WD 320g was the problem for the screen issue
and the shutdown
it happened often when safari and itunes where open
this is probebly my solution.
maybe this could help others
alot of people here did this for me
thank you

I remember saying that!

I know, I know. So did a few others. I'm being real optimistic about it though. ;)

I hope a disk swap works for you. I just know that it didn't work for me. I tried two different hard drives from different manufacturers and came up with the same problems.

EDIT: Mods, sorry for the back to back posts, forgot to multi quote.

I just checked the Part # on my card its 102B3610100 and I have been having the problems with it.

Just called Apple Service and he named it: DOA.
Now back from my local Apple Provider and ordered a replacement - which is "on stock". Hopefully a "stock of good"
