Seems like he is trying to convince others to justify him leaving Apple

Yeah, there’s just not enough in the way of specifics in his videos. He talks about Apple having lost its way but just didn’t say much else in detail. In other videos, he talks about design inconsistencies that are so trivial that they don’t really affect the user experience for the most part.

Looking forward to Chris experiencing the same levels of slop (minimal) that exists in Android (much like it does in iOS).

Still, good luck to him. It's about finding a comfortable balance because the reality is - nothing is perfect.

I used to watch this guy's videos a few years back, and then stopped as there are more factual, less subjective alternatives available.
I had a look at this video from about 17:00 minutes as suggested earlier in the thread, and he's lost all credibility for me. The bit where he spends the best part of a minute 'laughing at Apple's design decisions' was excruciating to watch.
A) if you are editing your own YouTube videos, you can edit out you own uncontrollable fake laughter, and stick to informed opinion so that I don't have to watching you having a meltdown... And
B) we are talking about a product that hasn't been released yet, so criticising how it works in practice may not be the best idea.
C) telling the richest company in the world; a company famous for elegant tech design, great user experience and high quality fit and finish, that their design is weak, makes Chris look like a petulant child.
Opinions on YouTube videos are all well and good, but this one requires a very large pinch of salt.

I hear what you're saying but when content is pushed into those ears and you realise there is content that isn't visible because of the space taken up by the content being extended into the camera area...well...it's an issue, no?

People really need to get over the idea that anybody criticising the X can't afford it.

I do not like the awkward, clumsy design. I do not want the iPhone X. I have enough savings to buy fifty of them. But I do not want one.

Oh boy, finance lesson #1: You really cannot afford the IPhone X if you have to reach into your savings to buy it.

If you earn the level of income that lets you truly afford the X, then you’ll see the X as simply the most advanced iPhone to date—with OLED, superb camera, true HDR display, AR capability, longest battery life (without upsizing to ginormous Plus) and Face ID (we know that Apple is not regressing to lesser tech, like Touch ID and the primitive home button).

My only gripe about the X (and 8/8+) is the “most durable” glass is still susceptible to scratches. I prefer not to use a screen protector.

I don’t care for the guy in the video; his opinion is completely irrelevant, and obviously he has zero hands-on experience with the X.

Which can be handled by adjustments to apps and UX guidelines. They already say to avoid putting content in the ears. Hopefully the video and photo apps are updated with ways to avoid the notch as they are the main culprits and getting a disproportionate amount of attention.

This is why I'm really comfortable with waiting for next years revision of the phone. I reckon over the six months of so we'll all accept the change if the UX suits. We'll see.

He will to go to Android and or Samsung or whatever, and he has to hope that those users will click his ranting video's, so he can make a buck, which is less easy then in the Apple community.

But will we keep on seeing him ranting about Apple products, but now without even using them (like he is doing with the iPhone X)
I hope not :)
Maybe we should set up a fundraiser, so he can exchange every Apple thing he uses to non apple stuff, so we can get rid of him in the Apple community,
let the Android community deal with him :)

Don't hold your breath on that because he usually backtracks on things he claims to stand absolutely firm on. That's why I call him "Backtrack Pirillo". He claimed he won't be posting any videos on youtube giving away his "valuable" advice for free and now look who is making a video everyday. He claimed only fools will buy the original iPhone and two weeks later was drooling over his shiny new iPhone. He will continue ranting on Apple because he knows there are hordes of Android users chomping at the bits to see/hear anything negative about the iPhone and will happily subscribe and provide income for his Star Wars dolls. Sorry but Backtrack Pirillo will be back on the iPhone probably next year to rant on in hopes of more clicks.

btw here is one his amazing claims about Google Maps on IOS which starts at 11:08

Only problem is this issue was already reported according to this link: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/35822822
and he happily takes credit for something others reported.

Seriously, UI is very personal. I have Android friends that have changed the system font to Comic Sans. So do we really need a new thread "Youtube X don't like Apple's new UI"?

It's the most advanced thing yet, you're just not rich enough to buy it!

That's a very narrow view of things. Money isn't the only factor in someone's view of a smartphone.

It may be the most advanced smartphone Apple has made but it isn't the most smartphone on the market. People who are tech illiterate or Apple enthusiasts will no doubt go Gaga over iphone x. But those of us who are power users or non apple fan boys may go for options or stick with the iPhone they have.

The price of iPhone X isn't as issue for me. But the fugly notch at the top and UI experience is something that concerns me.

Also just because you can afford something doesn't mean you should just spend your money on it. Especially if there are better options out there for a lower price.

I would change friends if I were you. Making comic sans your system font on you smartphone should be criminalized.

Trust me, once you leave you’ll come running back. If you’re all Apple now, you’re used to everything working well together. Once you leave, you lose all of that and it’s a gigantic pain.

It ain't so bad. I just looked at it from a dollars standpoint. I wanted a new computer... and I could have bought an iMac for $XXXXX.... or build it myself for the same dollars and end up with hardware 3x better for the same money.

So I did.

Not a fan of Android and I'm enjoying my 8 Plus and 12.9 iPad Pro... but as far as computers go, I'll never go back to another Apple. Just not interested in paying a premium for hardware that isn't even top tier.

I thought the same before building my PC... but everything stays in sync just fine between my W10 PC and Apple TV, iPhone and iPad via my AirPort Time Capsule and iTunes.

I didn't dislike the Apple OS, I just didn't like paying premium prices for hardware that was top of the line 18 months ago.

Few months back I bought a laptop from PC Specialists. Windows 10 (don't playa hate). For some reason I can't seem to make the transition from Microsoft to Apple. I also can't justify paying the amount of wedge I'd have to part with for an equivalent Apple laptop.

Might just keep my Apple TV .. iPad and iPhone and switch over to pc. I need a new computer and iMac won’t cut it .. and of course the updated Mac Pro probably won’t be until the end of 2018 or middle of 2019.

This guy is spot on. If you think the UI and the UX is ok on the 10, then you’re either a blind fanboy, or don’t really care that much about a good user experience.

Or perhaps we haven’t seen more than a couple of minutes and aren’t willing to jump to hyperbolic snap judgments

Can't go wrong doing it yourself. Specs in my sig. Been about 8 months now and it's still top of the line as far as gaming goes... and does everything else flawlessly too... be it video encoding or CAD work. I do a lot of both.

Oh boy, finance lesson #1: You really cannot afford the IPhone X if you have to reach into your savings to buy it

This has got to be the most unbelievably stupid statement I’ve read in my entire time on this forum.

Quick finance question for you, since you seem so well placed to advise me..

On payday, if £4000 hits my bank account and my total monthly outgoings (mortgage, bills, lifestyle, travel etc) are £2500...I have £1500 left over. Great, I say, let’s sweep that into my saver account until I might need it or chose to buy something with it - this way it earns me some interest that I wouldn’t get if I left it in my current account.

On what level, on what planet, in what warped alternate reality can’t I afford to buy an iPhone X?

I don’t need to use the device to know he’s right.
Marketing took over this round. There is absolutely no reason for the “fangs” around the notch other then for brand recognition. Making devs “embrace” it proves it.

So after watching this video a bit ago, checking out his Wiki, and reading this thread off and on I still have a question: why does anyone actually care what this guy thinks? He just seems to be highly opinionated and frankly kind of annoying with no real credentials that say he knows what he’s talking about. Was he a personal friend of Steve Jobs and knew his darkest secrets or something?

I think it’s something about his annoying voice and lack of valid points that makes people care what he says. Wait that doesn’t make any sense. I honestly don’t know why people care. His videos are so bad though. Surprising he gets so many views. Anyhow, moving on!
