there are certainly issues with IOS 11 at the moment but he is beginning to sound like a broken record.

Also, no way in hell am I clamoring to go back to the simplicity of iOS and 6 and prior. Is iOS bigger with more quirks? Absolutely. Are we getting the most functional and capable version of iOS as well? Yes we are.

I can live with release now and patch later if iOS continues to grow more capable.

Chrispy Rillo is right on lots of topics.
The notch is not the best approach (or rotation friendly) and ios11 is full of sloppy animations and bugs.

I support his long list of concerns..

Chris Pirillo is almost like the physical embodiment of the Macrumors forum, all the nonsensical ideas, conspiracy theories, and sometimes silly ideas, about Apple are posted, and as always the complainers have the biggest (and loudest) voice.

A huge percentage of all postings here are about dissatisfaction with an Apple device or user experience, and you say...see look at all those complaints, Apple must be terrible !
but compare the amount of Apple devices sold and used and all those older devices still in use, to the amount of complainers here, it's insignificant compared to the devices sold and used.

Most things get blown out of proportion really quick here (on purpose ?), and people seem to like to jump in and add fuel to the fire, and even if the contrary is posted, with facts, even then some seem to disregard it.

Change has also very high on top of the complaints list (if not #1), every time there is some change the complaints rise to bigger levels, and that is a normal psychological reaction, nothing more,
but the amount of posts/complaints about devices or software that nobody has actually used is astounding to me, there seems to be a lot of anger here :)

still - i CAN imagine a scenario when Apple releasing something really really well thought, fully baked and innovative,
and the complaints will go down by at least 60-70%, only leaving the usual nay/Android bunch.

Not on these forums and not with Chris Pirillo, people will always find things to complain about, regardless of Apple's state before Cook was in charge people complained about Jobs (granted not as much but it happened). Chris Pirillo has lost a lot of subscribers over recent times as well, the guy lost a lot of credibility.

That's not to say that Apple are perfect, no one (or company) ever is, but there are ALWAYS things that people want to pick fault with.

I used to watch Chris religiously in the early days, but he's collapsed into this 40 year old man having a Star Wars themed mid-life crisis and bouncing off the walls like a kid who's eaten blue Smarties. He's difficult to watch or take seriously these days. His Star Wars obsession is like the elephant in the room that is almost never mentioned but is way too visible to ignore. Also the fact they called their child Jedi and then tried to justify it without mentioning Star Wars even though everyone was thinking it - call your kid what you like, but also call a spade a spade and be honest with yourselves.

The problem with Chris Pirillo's video's is that he uses the basic rules to become "credible" with his rants

Basics for a Chris Pirillo video:

1- Make sure you have a credible background of having liked the tech you are about to diss,
this will greatly increase the amount believability.
2- it helps if you talk faster, a bit louder at the edge of shouting, remember shouting people are heard better.
3- Start with the question that viewers question themselves, but try to convey it as fact.
4- Start of with some true facts about that tech.
5- create some sympathy by explaining you could like it and really want this tech to work.
6- point to to previous videos, and make it sound like evidence.
7- Use big words that emphasize your point.
8- keep repeating the flaws, interchanged with some good points, but focus on the flaws and repeat...repeat.
9- keep as far away as possible of the facts that can prove your conjecture as false.
10- and if all else fails, make sure you say "planned obsolescence" a few times.

using "planned obsolescence" is like joining a protest, but you really don't have anything sensical to add to the discussion, so you just raise you fist into the air and shout...planned obsolescence...planned obsolescence :)

Get over it people, modern day technology is not like the 60s or 70s, where technology only got replaced when it broke.
It is now a fast paced race, where you have to leave the old behind, to invent the new.

I think Chris is spot on with everything but because I’ve spent so much money on iTunes and apps, it’s hard for me to start anew.
I’m willing to think that this is a misstep for Apple but I stopped buying movies, tv programmes and apps about six months ago to untie my reliance on Apple services and that’s not good for Apple.

So regarding his iPhone X video, do you disagree with the points he made, regardless of how he conveys those points? As I noted in earlier in the thread, I think he raises some good points and I agree.

he said he has experience with the X, just because he handled and used all previous phones ?!
that's like saying he know what an iPad is like, because it's just like a bigger iPhone.

Picking out small graphical details he doesn't like (on a BETA product), knowing full well that graphical design has nothing to to with his idea of using the space available.
He is stating ideas as fact how the UI will works, and will cause problems, and hides behind "his" experience with touch devices.

The problem with Chris Pirillo is that he is now just vindictive agints everythign Apple, just look at the first few minutes of his returning the iphone vid, he is complaining that it did not go as HE wanted it to go, just like a little child stomping on the floor and whining !

So what if he has some good points even though no one yet has actually used the iPhone X? He gets on the bandwagon of hundreds of iPhone X haters but will be the first one to take credit for starting the debate. To many the black bar will not be such a huge issue and it will still sell just fine. Chris Pirillo is one of the many youtube charlatans that will do and say anything to get views. He has a history of ranting on the iPhone without actually trying it out and later (actually two weeks later) became a fanboy. His ex wife Ponzi was more forward thinking in this case as she ignored all his rantings and bought the iPhone for herself.

Chris has also blatantly lied about being the one responsible for forcing Google to improve their Google Map on the iPhone. As someone earlier mentioned he is fast losing subscribers and that is why it seems he is making videos everyday regurgitating the same damn point over and over again. The guy sometimes reminds me of Kim Komando who caters to the baby boomer audience or the ones that are still nostalgic about Tech TV. BTW he actually came in the dying days of Tech TV. It seems his fans started this thread to keep him relevant.

I see a definite change in reviewers who Apple haven’t obviously bought off or bowed to their famous banned from events threats.
There’s a rising tide of hate towards Apple and it’s not slowing down.
YouTube reviews such as ijustine are just embarrassing and cringe-worthy nowadays.
Apple may have a huge bank account but that won’t last long if people stop buying their products.
Microsoft, Amazon and Google are back to being the pioneers of new tech and keep an eye out for Sony maybe returning too.
I really do think that customers are seeing through Apples okay but expensive technology. Just compare Amazons new 4K Fire TV stick to Apples for price and performance and you’ll understand my point.

As soon as I can find an iMessage like application for Android/iOS that will allow me to quickly send videos and photos UNCOMPRESSED...I’m gone.

High price, still playing catch up with technology, removing the headphone jack as if it’s some antiquated technology when clearly it isn’t, buggy OS, ugly turd on OLED screen which didn’t have to be there at all, etc.

So if anyone knows of a good cross platform messaging or picture/video sending utility that doesn’t compress the hell out of everything, please let me know! All the ones I found still compress.

same .. i have all apple stuff for a long time now .. but for the first im looking elsewhere .. already looking at building a pc for the first time since 09

I get some of Chris's arguments but he presents it as if the notch is inherently bad UI design.

I'm a designer myself, while not a UI/UX designer but architect. However, I know a thing or two about composition and taking design choices to their most logical extreme. This is one of the things I used to love about Jony Ive, and still do. Embracing the notch is the only "true" way of dealing with the intrusion in the screen, though I agree the landscape mode should offer a default black side bars / 9:16 option. Just like with video/photos one can double tap to make it full screen, including inner bleed of content. So no 'safe spaces' as that defeats the whole purpose of a full screen device.

I do like the notch for if there is one thing I hate most about current android phones - and bear with me, they seem conflicting at first - is that they are either asymmetric, like the LG G6, or they are symmetric in a way you cannot distinguish between top and bottom, like the Galaxy S8/Note8 and LG V30. The regular iphones and older Galaxys like the S1-7 didnt have this problem since there was always the home button to easily distinguish between top and bottom, yet the screen would be perfectly symmetric.

If there is anything that would drive me nuts it's either one of those. Yes, the notch causes a form of 'asymmetry' like Chris claims, but it's a signifier element. It's an argument of compositional vs proportional and/or functional asymmetry. The screen itself has a symmetric outer perimeter. Chris has an obsession for the notch (compositional), and I have an obsession for a symmetric outer perimeter (proportional) + the ability to distinguish between top and bottom (functional).

He might present his arguments as being objective to anyone with knowledge on UI/UX, but that's a pretty pathetic claim actually. I do however agree it's a solution in search of a problem. I have just mentioned two perfectly valid aesthetic qualifiers that make me prefer apple's solution over that of the current android crop. And this comes from - hold your breath - a day one android fanboy.

I'm actually hoping Sony will include a similar solution to their new Xperia Compact, since if there was anything that bothered me with android ever since Google forced the onscreen controls onto every android device but Samsung, it was the chin just sitting there with no function at all. Having a 9:18 screen where the bottom 1/18 would hold the android controls, and the top 1/18 the notification 'ears', would leave the rest of the screen for 9:16 content in a symmetrically cropped content window. Even in landscape.

I really hope at least Sony will get 'full screen' right.

I disagree that he makes good points. He makes obvious points that can be easily rectified when the X actually comes out. He makes the SAME complaints every single time a new iPhone is released and he is also very annoying to listen to. It’s been 10 years. I’m blown away that you can make a decent living on creating really bad YouTube videos for over a decade.

Your not the only one, a lot of people have unsubscribed to his YouTube Channel, he lost a lot of credibility in recent times. It’s not difficult to see why.

I usually don't watch this guy because his voice totally irritates me, but he's absolutely right about the ugly perma-notch. Design decisions at Apple are questionable.

ijustine are just embarrassing and cringe-worthy nowadays.

iJustine has never had a single clue about anything she's talking about. I'm sure she's a perfectly lovely individual, but she's a textbook Apple fangirl. She not open to seeing anything wrong with anything Apple make, she's only open to opening her wallet (purse?) the minute anything new comes out and preach blindly about it.

Sony maybe returning too.

Sony are doing incredible things in the mirrorless camera market, which is making the big players (Nikon, Canon) look worse by the day. Some really great Sony equipment around right now. The Sony A6000 is the best camera I've ever used, hands down.

But I'm getting off-topic now.

I really do think that customers are seeing through Apples okay but expensive technology.

Regular consumers are definitely starting to see the cracks with Apple, and that's what'll hurt them more. Obviously an Apple dedicated forum (this one) is a bad place if you're looking for an unbiased view of Apple, but I'm definitely seeing way too many Apple apologists around these parts. People who simply aren't willing to see anything wrong with the current state of Apple even though the evidence - and the cracks - are very much there.
