And I agree with him especially when it comes to landscape mode for just about anything.

Start at around 17:00 if you want to skip most of the dramatics to start seeing some examples of why things are pretty ridiculous and will annoy the end user experience.

If you generally agree with Chris Pirillo, then his opinion is probably valuable to you.

If you, like me, disagree with almost anything he says, you couldn't care less what he thinks of X's UI.

Android allows you to mask the notch; put a black bar on top. That is a big difference which isn't available on iOS.

Why would you mask usable space around the notch?

Because it looks really bad to me.
[doublepost=1524313953][/doublepost]I don't harp on it anymore now that I've heard apple does plan to shrink it (and then the 3rd step of which is eliminating it)

Have tried the X a couple of minutes and didn’t think about the notch. Still waiting for what WWDC and iOS 12 will bring for the X. Then I will probably get the X Plus.

I'm guessing the notch will look better based on the X +'s proportions. If they made the notch bigger to make it proportionate then that would be hilarious though.

The hate of coming from youtubers who want to make money and from people who either hate Apple or just haven’t tried the X for any period of time.

I went from the 8 Plus to the X and haven’t thought about the notch for one second. I’m very happy with the extra screen real estate when scrolling through media and it’s really good to have the wider screen when watching movies/TV series at 21:9 aspect ratio while retaining a very one hand usable footprint.

Most apps are made for the iPhone X display anyway. I don’t see a problem.

They are? I am testing an X and am finding a lot of apps that are cropped left|right to make it fit. It is more noticeable as I am testing an 8+ at the same time.

Yes but it depends what apps you’re using of course.

I counted mine. I have a total of 48 apps on my X (not including Apple original apps). 6 of those are not optimised for the display and those are apps that I very, very rarely use. It’s only one that I use quite often, which is Snapseed. I’d expect that to be updated but it hasn’t seen an update since 7 months ago so I don’t think the app is a priority for the developers anymore.

It’s definitely not enough to complain. 10/10 apps that I use on a regular basis is optimised! Like I said, I don’t see the problem.

I think it is user specific. The lack of scalability is nuts.

Chris Pirillo where are you now? Most Android phones getting notch and swipe gesture's...what you got to say about that?

It’s still a stupid idea, and just shows how little UI design talent the android team has - they just blindly copy bad ideas from apple?

I reckon this was an epic troll move from Apple - its definitely evidence that people will just copy them whether or not it is a good UI decision or not.

You think Apple created something bad looking on purpose to see if Android would copy? I doubt this is how it went down...

Android simply wants to give a choice...for the small minority that is thrilled by the notch design !!

I usually don't watch this guy because his voice totally irritates me, but he's absolutely right about the ugly perma-notch. Design decisions at Apple are questionable.

Personally i much prefer the one on the left. The right one looks fatter in my opinion, ie. the left is more slim and aesthetically pleasing. But then again, I've never minded the notch and I know I am a minority there.

Who is this guy and why should I care about him?
No one asks you to care about this guy; that's completely off the point to say so. But his evaluation about the notch is another matter, and I think he is right about his evaluation regarding the lack of a good and aestetic UI.

I don't think you are in the minority at all
I believe the vast majority of those who own the iPhone X see the notch as a total non-issue

Tech bloggers who need something to rant about to drive traffic and Forum junkies are a very small sample size compared to the true user base

I think the picture you included demonstrates how the notch is really just a short bezel. And I too think the shortened bezel notch looks better than a full bezel. And I don;t believe you are in the minority at all. Outside of tech forums the bezel notch really is a non-issue in my opinion.
