Fortunately you had a case on, that phone would have been shattered if it was naked
Concrete isn't very forgiving
I finally managed to crack a phone for the first time in my life. Dropped it back first on concrete getting out of the car from around 3ft and even the lens cracked.
Luckily, AC+ handed me a new iPhone but not before forking over $99+.

There are two types of people who go caseless, those who are careful and those who are not.

For the first type, they won't slide the phone on a table, they won't put the phone on the lap, they hold the phone tightly when we walk, they are sure the phone is on a safe position before leaving it unseen.

The second type scuffs their phone and goes back to a case.

Has that made you decide to use a case or is it worth the risk for you?

I’ve had my iPhone about 7 weeks and I’ve dropped it on hard floors about 4 or 5 times is that time. I can’t imagine not putting a case on my phone as I know I’d smash it within days. I hate the feel of these phones without a case too with their sharp edges and slippery finish.

I saw a lady drop an Android phone yesterday outside a play centre and she said to her friend the back of it was cracked. She was trying to slip it into a handbag and it dropped onto tarmac from probably 3/4 of a metre. These things are so brittle I don’t see the appeal of not protecting them.

You can go to an Apple service point and ask if they can repair scratches on your iPhone. You're better off getting an all-inclusive phone case for your iPhone, though. good luck!

This thread is intersting. If go caseless then be prepared for it fall. All the people who say they're hyper-viligent, or extra careful forget one thing. Accidents happen, and you can do everything the right way, but still, the phone will fall for reasons out of your control. I get that many people rocking a naked phone has never dropped theirs, and I bet the OP was the same, but yet stuff happens.

Its like driving a care without insurance. Yes you can be the most careful and gifted driver on the planet, but then someone runs a red light, or lighting strikes a tree and limbs falls on you the care. Life happens, and my take on it is, why take changes. If you the naked phone user realizes that and accepts the risk - then more power to you.

Wrong. I stated accidents can happen and we are all human and error prone. I could go caseless and might have a perfect device after a year or two. There is also a strong chance I would need a new glass back, screen or both after dropping it in an accident.

There are plenty people who have undamaged phones who also go caseless, most of them have damaged other phones though. The chance of having a phone for a decent period of time with zero cosmetic damage without using protection is extremely minimal.

I think one tiny crack and no visible scratches in 14 years of naked iPhones is a pretty good track record. Yes, accidents happen (that one crack, after all), but not everyone is careless.

That’s a good record. You appear to be the exception to the rule.

I used an SE1 for 6 months there which appears to be a much easier to handle phone and I still dropped it once on a hardwood floor. Luckily I had a case & screen protector on so there was no damage. I reckon I would drop a phone 1-2 times per year without being careless which would cause minor scratches at best or cracks to the screen/back at worst.

The average person drops their phone many times each year… which is why I advocate protection. I have never seen a caseless phone out in the wild with no damage so I would consider your personal experience to be an outlier.

I've been going caseless on my 14 Pro and everything was going fine with the exception of a tiny micro-scratch on the screen (before I decided to at least use a screen protector). All I had was a screen protector and my Apple Wallet on the phone.

Last night my phone fell off the top of my toilet somehow and now have 2 scuff marks around the bezel and also a scuff mark on the camera bump, but thankfully not on the lens. I do have AppleCare +, but I know they don't cover scratches or scuffs.

Anyone know if there are any places out there I can have them fix the scuff marks?
They won't cover scratches but hey if you smack your phone down and the screen cracks they will

They will just replace the screen and you will be left with all the scuff marks and paint chips around the bezel.
not often they will replace the complete phone. You obviously do enough of a job on it to they don't just replace the screen

So that means smashing the glass back rather than the screen. The problem is that if a lot of people had this mindset AC+ would go up in price and become unaffordable. There are obviously people who do it though. I don’t agree as it’s fraud, however it is what it is. I don’t use AC+ anyway and just use cases & screen protectors instead. If I was an honest AC+ user I would be annoyed at this behaviour as the price hike would be coming out of my pocket.

agree.

This is fraud and I can’t believe how casually some people say it in this forum as if that’s a done thing and the right way to go.

Yep. There are a lot of people on this forum who say they are able to get Apple to replace their phones on AC+ for cosmetic damage however when I challenge them on how they do it, they tend to go quiet and become cryptic by saying there are “ways and means”…

My exact word/s that night were “Oops!” but transitioned to “Ouch” by morning.

I tried to go back to using a case but only got the leather one which would be a terrible idea when you go skiing. So might as well keep using it caseless albeit a bit more carefully and put that money towards a replacement as I still got about a year and a half left on the AC+.

Yeah this is just insane.

I believe that’s unlikely as it costs more via excess to pay for a broken screen never mind a whole new phone.

As far as I am aware, Apple will only deal with damage to the phone that impairs the functionality of the device. Cosmetic ware does not affect functionality and is therefore not included.

Just put your scratched iPhone behind your vehicle and back over it a couple of times. That should impair it’s functionality just fine. Sorry if this has already been suggested.
