I didn't use a case with my iPhone XS Max. Made it two months before dropping it when taking it out of my pocket. I was sitting and it only fell maybe a foot or two, but onto concrete. Front screen was fine but it shattered the back glass. So stupid that replacing the back glass costs so much. Didn't pay to fix it, though. Sold it at a slight discount to someone who said it didn't matter that the back glass was cracked because it would be in a case anyway and they would never see it. I've always used some sort of case since then. Without one you are much more careful and aware, but there's always a chance of an accident happening no matter how careful I am.

I used my X for 5yrs with a case. Last month, day 2 of using it without, and I dropped it onto concrete pavers. Such is life. 😅

Using a Apple Leather Case since day one 9/17 and Spigen screen protector.

My 14 PM fell when it was on my music stand when the stand tipped over. I got 2 little chunks out of the case nothing on the phone. The edge of the case saved it. Use a case folks no one cares what color your phone is.

No, no one cares what color my phone is - except me.

That said, I will continue to not use a case. There is a reason I have specific spots to set my devices down on. A music stand is inherently unstable and if there were people around the chances increase that it would be moved or knocked over - which is what happened.

My phone, not in a case, would not have been on the music stand.

I put a case and screen protector on my new phone within 2 minutes of the unboxing, and before powering it up for the first time.
I don't have butter fingers but I do place some faith in Sods law.😁
I still try to be mindful when handling my devices.
I cannot imagine setting a metallic object on a curved porcelain surface, 🤷‍♂️ .
My retired iPhone 5 does not have a scratch on it.

The main reason why I try to be careful is that I have no confidence that my device would be as intact as it was when it left the factory, once it has to be repaired.

Otherwise it pains me to have to add a bulky case to a now bulky device.

Hands up who here also doesn’t give a toss whether other people on the internet use a case on their iPhone or not?

This discussion is a common one on here where so many people argue over whether using a case or not using a case is the CORRECT way to use a phone. I couldn’t care less whether someone does or not unless I am directly responsible for replacing it or not. The mind boggles.

I see what you mean specifically.
I don't really care what people do with their devices but I'm bemused by it.
" I was sitting on the bog and dropped my phone into the product" - Then post about it.

What it does make me wonder about, is the attitude about property in general.
If one cares nothing for this property, then are they cavalier about all their property?
And importantly to me, are they going to be cavalier about me and my property?
Are they going to use my vehicle to "park by braille" because they don't give 2 shites about their own machine?

Haha, looks like you’re planning to go from one extreme to another.

I used an Otterbox Defender on my 12 Mini for the first year along with one of their screen protectors and my phone was kept in a pristine condition for the duration. I have now used an Apple silicone case for 6 months and it is durable enough to prevent any scratches and has kept the phone looking new. I prefer to go down the stylish route as the Otterbox Defenders, as amazing as they are, are really bulky and take away from the aesthetics of the phone. I’d probably use them if I worked in construction or partook in extreme sports.

Yeah that would be my worry thats its too bulky and would get on my nerves. The back of my phone has stayed pristine but just the glass thats got lots of micro scratches. Although my speakers have gotten wet as well at one point so they aren't the clearest of audio anymore. I'm just on a short term build project for new work premises so will prob wait till thats finished before get a new phone anyways.

Do you not fine the Apple Silicone goes sticky? I had a Apple leather ages ago and thats goes very sticky with all the oils etc

Well Apple silicone cases have a soft felt interior so that your phone shouldn’t end up with any micro scratches. Mine has never gone sticky. Used it for 7-8 months and it’s looking pretty much as good as new right now. If you handle it with sticky fingers, it’ll go sticky however the silicone is easily cleaned with a wet cloth.

I went caseless for two years with iPhone 12 and didn't have drop single time. This year I get case from day one for iP14Pro and got scuff on the screen after falling to the concrete. Throwed case in garbage. Bought AC+.
Fortunately you had a case on, that phone would have been shattered if it was naked
Concrete isn't very forgiving

The Apple Leather case has been great on my 13 Pro

I have yet to get a screen protector though lol

I do. AppleCare+, been going caseless since the 12 Pro. Cases are bulky, ugly, and add weight to already heavy 14 pro phones.
Enjoy your scratched up phone along with the inconvenience of getting serious damage fixed or the device replaced and paying the excess expenditure.

Exactly! If I'm replacing it though it DOES go in a case. Internet strangers, not so much. 😂

It’s not necessarily always like that. Even in my experience going case less doesn’t mean you’ll have a scratched up phone. It’s all down to the individual and how they take care of their devices.

I’m generally always case less when I’m in my known surroundings but I bought a case for my travels when I don’t know what to expect.

I can happily report that I haven’t had a single scratch on any of my devices since the iPhone 8 days with this approach.

That’s great but there’s no guarantee of an accident. I have seen plenty scuffed up iPhones in my day. It’s totally fine though if people don’t mind using cosmetically damaged phones as it’s their property and it’s none of my business whether or not they use protection.

You’re always playing with fire of you don’t use a case. I would rather use a stylish and attractive case and not have to worry about cosmetic or more serious damage.

It's a phone. I enjoy using it. Why get so tilted over someone else's choice, it doesn't effect you.
Read the above post, I said it’s none of my business whether you use cases/screen protectors on your phone or not. It’s your property so do as you like. I personally wouldn’t want cosmetic damage but that’s just me. I would also find the inconvenience of getting my screen or glass back repaired a chore and would like to avoid that situation.

But the point is that not everyone who goes caseless has a cosmetically damaged phone. That’s your assumption, based on how you treat your phone, I guess.

I and others have said in this very thread that our phones are without visible damage after going caseless for months or years. I guess you either think we’re lying or think we’re unicorns.

I don’t care how others treat their phones, I don’t care how others protect their phones. But I’m not a liar, and I find it very odd that someone just decides that no one is capable of keeping a phone undamaged without a case.

Wrong. I stated accidents can happen and we are all human and error prone. I could go caseless and might have a perfect device after a year or two. There is also a strong chance I would need a new glass back, screen or both after dropping it in an accident.

There are plenty people who have undamaged phones who also go caseless, most of them have damaged other phones though. The chance of having a phone for a decent period of time with zero cosmetic damage without using protection is extremely minimal.
