Also if attention was made on it, it could potentially put pressure on apple to counter this trend.

They did the same with the Apple ID Genius Bar requirement. Bands and musicians sign CDs and posters with the fans name making it harder to resell. It would make things inflexible but that's Apple's problem to balance and resolve

They could fix it with in store purchases, but not online. Why do people care? It is easy money, and totally legal.

We've got to STOP the scammers

Because some of us still want the release day phone and the experience. Not only did a lot of people who are genuinely excited about the product walk away empty handed - but the atmosphere was just crap.

Apple aren't going to be motivated to do anything about it. But next year I doubt many genuine fans will bother.

Hmmm... I'm white and speak good English and planning on doing this. You're right. You aren't racist.

This is America and these Asians have more rights than use under this administration. Nothing wrong with profit, it is what made this country "once" great!

Just really affects fans wanting to queue and not getting the phone they wanted. It's not going to affect me now as I won't be queuing in the future.

Anyway, it's becoming easier to skip iPhone generations lately so the desire to upgrade isn't as strong as it was before so hopefully less queues

This is happening because apple cannot launch there products everywhere.
Most of these products are sent to the arab countries and few asian countries where apple takes 2 months to launch there products.

I'm non-white myself. I'm not racist!!! Simply stating what I witnessed.

agreed. It is not racist...it is just an observation. Every time I have sold a phone on craiglist it is to an Asain who has about 10 phones on them. They are flipping them

It makes my blood boil that these scammers prevent genuine customers from purchasing a device at the correct price.

Poor genuine customers. All their loyalty, and this is how they get compensated. :(
Now back to crying for them. I mean, come on, how could they live without a phone? Let us all pray for the genuine customers. Amen

If people are stupid enough to spend nearly a £1000 on phone, which they can have in a few weeks time for half that, who can blame them. The best way to stop these inflated prices is to not buy them.

I like to have the latest phone/tablet/laptop etc but would not pay more than retail price for anything.

Its only a phone!!!!

Yeah ... Sorry if Apple and import taxes have marked up their brand so much in Asia, where buying one there requires you to be straight up rich. The original post has me seething because if you really wanted one you'd get there earlier or order at 12:01 to grab the first batch. Sorry if the "asians" are trying to beat an unfair system that they've been forced to deal with.

/rant over.

They are not scammers, they are profiteers.

And, people hard done would be local Apple fans. Would you be disappointed if you turned up, waited in line for 3-4 hours to learn that 60% of the stock was sold to people who are going to resell them for profit??

These guys stopped me from buying products in store on launch day.

You are forgetting the hard core apple fans that either live in an area that will not get stock for a long time or can not make it to the local store or don't have the time to stand in a line that is 1000+ or are disabled. These people are willing to pay a premium price to get the phone. Should they not be allowed to get the phone?

I see nothing wrong with it.

When we go to Disney, we pay for the fast pass that allows us to cut in line in front of everyone that didn't buy the pass. I'm willing to pay the premium.

As long as there are people with more money than brains this will not stop. Apple will not stop it and why would they? They would rather sell a no contract phone to someone for 600 to 800 bucks than to sell a contract phone for 200 - 400. No contract, Apple gets their money right away. With a contract... I don't really know how it works... does apple get rest of the money from Verizon or ATT over time?

I want to make two points.

1. Wall Street keeps saying that people in Asia can't afford iPhones high prices, yet every fall, tens of thousands of iPhones are sold to Asians at extremely high markups. It's not like the scalpers are selling for less than Apple does in the Asian countries. What gives?

2. A few launches ago, in the US, Apple tried to force people to use credit cards to purchase iPhones. This was to reduce scalping. The media jumped all over apple on this policy and they had to change it. This is what you get.

Extremely high markups are sold to non Asians every year as well.

It bugs me how some people feel the need to even care about something out of their control.

I remember the same thing happening when I was working for Apple (with the iPhone 4). A few points:

1.They are not scammers, they are opportunists, looking to make some quick money due to the:

2. Incredibly high demand of Apple products. If people weren't so fixated on having everything now, and actually used their brains to weigh up the necessity of this, these opportunists would have no market.

3. Calling them "non-genuine" is judgemental and unnecessary. They are as genuine a customer as any other, paying with real money for a real product. What they choose to do with the phone they are buying is their choice entirely.

4. If you take a step back, and look at this "problem" on a whole, you will see that you are part of it. Crazed fans spending all night in the cold waiting for a phone is as ridiculous as people taking advantage of this market.

Those people are not scamming anyone. If they wait and pay for the phone like everyone else in line no one can tell them what to do with it after it's in their hands. Period.

I waited in line with my son for longer than I care to admit for the first iPhone in 2007. It's something we still talk about from time to time and remember fondly. Now I just high five the UPS guy when he shows up...

Why do you say more money than brains? Maybe their time is worth more to them. If someone has more money than you, why do you assume they have less brains than you? I could, and I bet most here could, survive with a flip phone....or no cell phone. But we pay for a premium phone because we can afford it.

I love this the most...and I have been one of those fans for every iPhone except the 5.
