He's dead. If they thought the design they came up with was nicer or they didn't have it set in stone they would change the design all they want.
Do you really think they are worried about pleasing him now?

Steve Jobs died less than a year ago. Considering the way Apple goes about things, I seriously doubt that they would just go back to the drawing board with the iPhone 5 and change the design "all they want" and then put it out less than a year later.

I agree but there would have been NO quality control problems.
:rolleyes:That is such a bunch of bull. If you bothered looking through the archives of mr, you'd see posts complaining about something on almost each release of the iphone.
As someone said, the main difference is that Jobs would probably not have given an apology per se.
FYI, there was no way no have a solid metal back if they wanted to ensure decent signal quality.

or it is another great marketing scheme to say he was involved when really he spent more time in the hospital the last couple year of his life,

Exactly this. Plus or minus a few details, what we got is what he was planning to give us.

Look, I admired Steve as much as the next guy, but it's not like he never missed. He just never apologized. Remember the Cube? Or, "You're holding it wrong"? The completely round mouse with one button? How the iPhone 1 didn't need apps?

lets face it, steve was a hard nosed stubborn guy. some good came from it, as well as bad, in the end it cost him his life. he refused medical treatment for his medical problems until it was too late. many in the medical field say he could of survived if he had started treatment like his doctors wanted him to. not exactly brilliance in my eyes. he was a great salesman. great salesman never admit any fault with their products

Exactly, or how the first version of Mac OSX couldn't even burn CDs (among other things). People love to imagine that things were all flawless back when Steve was around. But that is very much how it goes every time we enter a new "era", people always like to imagine that everything was so much better before, that things were perfect "back then" but that isn't truly the case.

Yea, its a Steve thread (RIP).

I think there would have been some differences if Steve was alive.

  • I think there would have been no anodized coating paint
  • We would have kept google maps in ios6 (or at least no apologies for Apple maps like Tim did.)
  • And I think there would have been no "glass windows" on the back of the phones, something more "one piece"
just my thoughts
Why?
Why do you think these points would be any diiferent if Steve was alive?
There's no credebility in this list because you don't explain your insight into the mind of Steve jobs, you dont give us any explanation as to why Steve would have done anything yourway. If you want to throw up a list of things you dont like or wish were different about the iPhone then do so, but call it what it is 'stuff you don't like about the iPhone'.

Elaborate. I don't recall any issues with the 4 or 4s coming brand new damaged, scratched, dinged. I recall the volume buttons being upside down occasionally but that was it. The 4 had antenna gate which was hardly a QC issue.

This is obviously Speculation and Assumption on MacRUMORS! FFS rumors is in the website name.

Anyway, Its true, If steve was alive, things would be different of course they would be. You can't deny that. This thread is just for us to give opinions on what things. So calm down bro!

I disagree. Good forum discussion is based on presenting an argument with some valid reasoning to back it up. Others can then support that argument with additional valid reasoning or refute the argument, again with some valid reasoning.

My objection to your post, besides the fact that you didn't back any of your arguments up, is that you make a lame attempt at legitimizing it by
claiming Steve would have done it this way. If you not willing to back up your opinions why post them on a public forum?

Ill even show you how its done

I think there would have been no anodized coatingI disagree. Steve had been pushing the entire product line towards the use of aluminum. We've had black and white iPhones for several generations now and the anodizing is an industry standard way of coloring aluminum black. Plus Apple already had plenty of experience anodizing iPods.

Steve would have kept Google mapsDisagree, there was no love lost between Google and Steve, and I would argue that Steve had been looking for ways to get Google off the iPhone ever since they created Android. Why else would Apple, under Steve's watch, invest millions in buying mapping technologies if not to launch there own service.

No glass windowsThe antenas have to go somewhere. As nice as the one piece back of the 4/4S it lead to a controversial antena design. The glass backs allow Apple to drop the 4/4S antena design.

Okay lets both take a moment here and realize the extent you've taken your offense to my thread.

You've dissected my opinions to what I thought would be a simple opinion thread. Good discussion is always sought for, of course, but there is definitely no standardized structure of how such a discussion is started. Let me do my thing and move on. It's like a water cooler/coffee break discussion. You don't have to walk up to your co-workers and start saying things with a variety of facts to back up every thought and idea. Simply bringing up a topic is sufficient to start a good discussion.

Second. Lets look at what you've said here:

Since when, in the entire history of Steve Jobs' career, has he gone with the Industry Standard? Never. That's what set Apple apart from the rest of the competitors. C'mon man. Just from this very insight you've eloquently provided, you discussing any item pertaining to the intent of my thread is null and void. Sorry if you take any offense to that, it's just that, I can already determine a discussion with you would be a further waste of my time.

I don't think anything would be different in the phone.

Still would have had an apology for Maps, too.

Even though he had his hand in the production, or if the phone was made two years ago... How do you guys know if there weren't major changes in the design after his passing?

Speculation and assumptions.

Because he didn't pass.

He DIED.

I think enough time has passed that you really don't need to cushion the blow with absurd euphemisms.

I am sure Steve had a hand in this update and probably the next 5.

Lol, you're trying so hard... Just relax a bit. Its just a forum :)

Exactly. The amount of naïveté regarding the product development process is staggering.

They shipped 5M iPhone 5’s in a week.

It takes 2-3 months to make that many, maybe more, another 3-4 months before that to get all the components made, shipped, tested, coordinated. What you see as the iPhone 5 is Steve's baby. It was green-lit months before he died.

It's a great product. Just as Steve designed it.

You would played catcher for Steve's jobs wouldn't you? He created a cult and you drank the kool-aid
