I wouldn't want a larger screen since the iPhone screen is pretty spot on...but why do you hope people won't get a choice? They wouldn't discontinue the current size...they would offer a larger option.

The larger option exists. It's called the iPad Mini. :p

Very high. In fact I'd be shocked if they didn't. I think they'll keep the 4" form factor and introduce a second iPhone identical in specs and look however with a screen between 4.7"-5". As an S4 user I can tell you that it makes a world of difference.

Why do people even bother stating this nonsense?

I think 4.5" is the sweet spot, especially if they can mostly remove the side bezel, would fit great in most hands while keeping screen size maxed.

I had the Note 2 (5.5") and now the HTC One (4.7") and am looking forward to getting a 5s.

The problem with really big phones like the Note is that for the most part everything is just larger, screen usage is not optimized. Sort of like Android tablet apps, a lot of them are not optimized for the larger screen, they are just magnified versions of phone size apps. Its fine if all you do is watch videos, but for many games and apps it does not improve the experience.

I think Apples strong developer community will be able to make more customized apps for phablets, like they do for the iPad.

I am hoping Apple does this:
iPhone 6c (c for classic?) 4" phone
iPhone 6 a new 4.5" iPhone
iPhone 6 Pro a new 6" tablet/phone hybrid done right with customized apps

Highly likely. I am guessing early next year. I have a feeling a lot of stuff is coming very shortly besides phones ;)

personally I want my phone to be as small as possible and yet be functional and for me the 5s is perfect.

With great launch numbers for the new iPhone, apple can wait longer to release bigger size iPhone. If demand was weak, Tims hand would have been forced to cater to this segment of the market despite not having its design or manufacturing perfected.

I am wondering because I have only been an apple fan for about 1 1/2 years and don't know their trends. I also want to know because if they release a device with a bigger screen I will just buy the iPhone 5S in a couple of months and keep that phone for a long while. I will be done pretty much, and use the phone for as long as I can humanely possible.

If not then I will wait for the 6. Either way it's hard to tell what they are going to do. But demand is high for larger screens so Apple might budge.

What do you guys think?

They are keeping the same size and adding phone capabilities to the ipad mini.

Having been using an old Galaxy S2 while I wait for my 5S to arrive, I am really hoping Apple will finally release a larger phone. I don't want to see anything crazy like the 5"+ S4 or this ridiculous Note or Mega.

Honestly, I never thought I'd want a larger phone but like others have said, we can adapt to sizes quite quickly and easily. When they bumped up to 4", I instantly loved it. I'll be ready for the upgrade as soon as it arrives.

I have all phone phone form the 3S up to the 5S, and also the Galaxy Note II which if i'm not mistaken 5.5 inch

at 5.5 inch it's too big, it's not practical for taking photos, jogging (cause I like to hold with my hand), talk (calling)...but great for reading. It's really hard to operate with one hand.

at 4 inch it's great but the only downside is screen is a bit small for reading text, so it's a matter of trade one problem for another, but if I have to read text then I use the iPad instead.

My preference is a iPhone no bigger than 4.5 inch or so, past the 4.5 inch it would be hard to hold with one hand

Agree, but I don't see apple release multiple size phone

If they copy the edge to edge screen design of the Moto X they will have a home run on their hands. That phone is surprisingly small (for a 4.7" screen)

Agree. I switched back to the iPhone from the S3 and the screen is taking some getting used to. I can't wait for a slightly wider iPhone.

Do you think they'll stop supporting the 4S and the other 3.5" devices at the same time? On one hand, it makes sense to only support two screen sizes to reduce fragmentation like Android devices. On the other hand, it probably wouldn't go over too well if they stopped supporting a device that they were selling up until that point.

If they released two new premium phones(probably unlikely) it's conceivable that one might be quite large, but if the premium end (ie. not the C range) comes in only one size, I'd be very surprised if it got much larger than 4.5"-4.7" or so.

There's no "correct" size of course, it's all preference, but get into 4.8"+ territory and there's a lot of people who flat won't like it. Apple aren't Samsung, preferring fewer products with wide as possible target audiences. Unless it's virtually without bezel, 4.8"+ would alienate a lot of people (not me necessarily).

I used to really want a much bigger iPhone but the Mini pretty much satisfies my bigger-screen-on-the-go needs as it fits into my coat pocket. I'd definitely like a wider screened iPhone along the x-axis though. I always had this completely unfounded pet theory that, had the screens been available cheaply enough and in the right time frame, battery permitting, Apple would never have gone 16:9 and stuck with 3:2 and a larger 1920x1280 screen, a pixel doubling of the 4's 960x640. As much as I love my 5(now 5S) 1136x640 has always felt like a compromise to placate the limitations of the os and deliver a then much needed size increase on the old 3.5" screen.

I hope apple don't install a larger screen. while I love the design of all iPhone 5 models, I preferred the smaller screen on the 4S. I have an iPad for when the larger screen is necessary.

I personally don't mind the increased screen size, I just don't like the increased body length of the iPhone 5 (compared to the 4s). If they could have used a 4 inch screen in the iPhone 4s body that would have been perfect to me :)

I agree with you though, I hope they don't install an even larger screen in the next iPhone (unless they can substantially increase battery life with the added space).

This can't be emphasised enough. I had a Note for a bit. It was excellent for video and ebook reading but very hit and miss for many other things.

I thought web browsing would be amazing on it, but I found myself in this weird limbo - everything is way too big, so not THAT much more content on show, on mobile optimised websites. Switch to desktop view and everything is way too small and you're constantly pinching and zooming. I do feel the iPhone is a tad small these days but browsing is very efficient for such a relatively small screen.

I hope not...

Everything more than 4 inch is too big.. I don't need a tablet, I need a phone that need to fits in my pocket. Two choices 4 inch and for example 4,5 are too not good because this is next resolution for developers, and fragmentation isn't good...
