I'm in the same boat, 4.5 max. Although the Moto X feels pretty damn good in the hand at 4.7".

I think the screen size will end up being whatever will allow the OS to scale accordingly.

The MotoX is perfect. That is the best feeling phone and best screen size I've ever seen on a smartphone. I wouldn't buy it because I hate Android. But they've totally nailed the screen size and form factor. You'll notice on the MotoX that they've effectively eliminated the black bezel around the screen. This subtle shaving off of this clunky bezel is what makes it still small but with a larger screen.

Apple seems to be in love with ugly 90s bezels. The iPhone has just too small of a screen. I can't deal with it anymore. Everything is crammed. It's not wide enough. And those ugly top and bottom black bezels...

My prediction is after the first few months here, the sales of the iPhone 5S/5C are going to taper off.

The Galaxy Note 3 and more innovative Android phones are coming. Apple could have made the screen bigger here and they made a mistake. Now all these people rushing to buy these new phones are going to be on contract. They had a chance to do a bigger screen and start from the beginning again... particularly since they released a new iPhone model. Now all these iPhone 5C buyers are going to be stuck on 2 year contracts.

So next year? Well, go ahead Apple, but you're going to fragment yourself.

If they copy the edge to edge screen design of the Moto X they will have a home run on their hands. That phone is surprisingly small (for a 4.7" screen)

I held a Moto X this weekend and agree, that is the PERFECT phone screen-wise and in terms of form factor. The 5/5S feels awkward in my hand (too tall and skinny), the Moto X felt super comfortable.

I used to want the iPhone to be like the Galaxy S4, but I found that it's too big, I prefer the Moto X size. I hope Apple can make something like this for the iPhone 6.

I hope not. I'm going from iPhone 4 to 5s and though the thinness is great it's about the max height I would want for a phone to fit in my pocket comfortably. So I'm fine with a larger screen as long as the size of the actual phone doesn't change.

Here is a pic of an iPhone 5 next to a Moto X. As you can see, the difference in form factor is minimal, but the increase in screen size is noticeable:

I hope not...

Everything more than 4 inch is too big.. I don't need a tablet, I need a phone that need to fits in my pocket. Two choices 4 inch and for example 4,5 are too not good because this is next resolution for developers, and fragmentation isn't good...

This is silly. It gets said way too many times. A Galaxy S3 is not a tablet. It's not at all taller than a iP5 and only slightly wider yet offers a much nicer layout as far as the screen goes.

You want a small phone, that's fine, but to say something like a S3 doesn't fit in a pocket but the iP5 does is silly. Both the S3 and the iP5 fit in my pocket, even in my skinny jeans.

I have owned every iPhone but I am holding off getting the 5S...
screen size was the main reason not to upgrade!

Apple fingers x will release a iPhone 6 - 4.7"ish next year!

Also I would also like IOS8 to have a widget home screen...

Come on Apple!
