Friday night is usually jazz night for me but it's a New Year and time for a break so tonight it's the Finnish country band Steve 'N" Seagulls instead. These guys are a stitch and very good musicians.

You could maybe laugh while the paint dries on this video of a Metallica cover, but it has over 19 million views so... Nothin' else matters

My favorite comment attached to the video:
"It's been 3 years and I'm still concerned about the boat not being tied off"

My personal favorite by these guys is the cover of Guns'n'Roses You Could Be Mine

Then there's their cover of AC/DC's Thunderstruck. Only 23k people hated it enough to bother signing in and giving it a thumbs down. But 94 million people have watched it so who was I to resist.

Ah, I have those albums; a colleague on my last lengthy deployment abroad introduced me to Steve'N'Seagulls with the wonderful song "Nothing Else Matters" one night over a few glasses of wine, and, when next I returned home on leave, I ordered the album.

Terrific song.

Another group (whose music) he introduced me to were The Dead South (starting with the song "In Hell I'll Be In Good Company"), which - with this sort of music in mind, is exactly what I am listening to as I write.

Heard and saw local Blue Jays earlier today.💕💜💕

Heard the Jay-Jay-Jay call. Then, as I watched a Jay hopping on a neighbor's roof, I finally heard the squeaky gate call. 💙

I love the calls of blue jays too (in other than the nesting season when they are mean to robins!). They do add cheer to these early winter days when the weather turns rainy and grey before rounding up enough cold air for another snowstorm.

Meanwhile I'm trying to find energy to launch a sewing spree in the studio, having cleared away some of the ribbons and paper debris of last minute gift wrappings. I knew I'd eventually regret just closing the door and walking away from all that mess on Christmas Eve day. Just popped in a playlist of bluegrass music, that should do it. Currently listening to some Flatt & Scruggs while I take a break from trying to create order from chaos in that room.

Here's their Flint Hill Special taken from a 78rpm version into the album 'Tis Sweet To Be Remembered: The Essential Flatt & Scruggs

Jane's Addiction - Ritual de lo Habitual (1990)

Shirley Bassey - La Vita
Came across this artist and song over the weekend for the first time.

Flight of the Conchords - A Kiss is not a Contract
One of those songs where I can still remember where I was when I heard it for the first time :)
