Wonderful varied selection of tunes every Sunday afternoon on Radio 6 Music - Listen Live - BBC Sounds...

Shows hosted by:
- Cerys Matthews
- Tom Robinson
- Guy Garvey

This theme suddenly popped into my head since I saw the Netflix series "Marco Polo" pop up on youtube (I guess due to my interest in history) - have not seen it but I did see the 1982 mini-series when just a lad in high school and really liked it. The main theme was haunting and I wondered who composed it?

Of course it was the magnificent Ennio Morricone here played by Yo Yo Ma and the Roma Sinfonietta.

I'd forgotten how much I love the horns on this one. From Bonnie's Raitt first album in 1971 when she was 21, recorded in Minnesota with some live tracks. Credits on this track include her bassist Freebo on tuba, Junior Wells on harmonica, and Willie Murphy, the album's producer, on piano.

Terrific choice.

A number of years ago, as a combined birthday/Christmas gift/present, my brother gave me a ticket (in an excellent seat) for a live concert by Ennio Morricone.

Terrific song @hawkeye_a and great video (the scene of the funeral with the mirror I only was pointed out much later was pretty grim though)! Continuing my 80s mini-series kick - a song from the soundtrack of the 1989 "THe French Revolution".

Composed by Georges Delerue and sung by a great American singer Jessye Norman. Lyrics below

Toi liberté, liberté que nous aimons
Toi liberté, liberté que nous voulons
Sois notre espoir et notre force
Sois notre joie, notre bonheur
Nous pourrons
Chanter chaque jour plus haut
Chanter chaque jour plus loin
Chanter joyeusement cet hymne de foi
Liberté, Liberté, je crois en Toi
Liberté, Liberté, sois notre loi
Ô Toi qui peux donner l’espoir
Ô Toi qui peux sonner la joie
Ô Liberté, Liberté que nous aimons
Sois toujours plus près de nous
Sois toujours plus près de nos cœur
Loin de nous l’esclavage
Loin de nous les prisons
Plus jamais de privilèges
Loin de nous famines et massacres
Loin de nous le temps des tyrannies
Nous chanterons toujours ton nom, “Liberté”
Nous croyons en Toi.
