My main request would be options for organizing Faces. Rather than one large grid with everyone I know, I would like to be able to group people by families, organizations, and other subgroups. It would also be nice for the default face selected for each person to be synced with their address book card.

Nonsense. Picasa handles it just fine, and Picasa is free.

It's not nonsense just because it can be done. Why add complication?

iTunes is also too stupid to scan a folder for new songs,

Too stupid? The number one reason that that feature is useful is for songs downloaded from file sharing applications. I think it might be something other than stupidity that keeps Apple from adding the feature.

It's also relatively easy to do yourself with folder actions on a Mac.

so i suppose its logical that iPhoto would also lack the ability to scan a folder.

What does that have to do with what I said?

Absolutely. I would hope at least some of these suggestions would make it into the next version.

I would like for it to be easier to add places to photos for those of us who don't have gps enabled cameras. A drag and drop from a strip of photos at the top would be great. Especially if they then disappeared from that strip once they had been "placed".

Just make a smart album for photos that have no place, that's what I do.

I would like the exact same thing

iMovie to support other formats such as .avi and .rmvb rather than only mp4 (is that asking to much?)

and of course iWeb to be published in others sources rather than MobileMe

I would think the general problem with using your own file system is that it makes it difficult for the iPhoto database to keep track of changes made through the Finder rather than iPhoto.

Im not sure how you missed my point, so i guess i'll have to carefully outline it for you.

You said it would be difficult for iPhoto to keep track of changes made via finder. Its not difficult to keep track of changes made in finder. Picasa keeps track of changes made in Finder. Google gets paid a whopping 0 dollars for every download of Picasa, and yet they can pull off an app that scans a folder for changes. Must be very complicated

Then i compared iPhoto to iTunes because they both share the distinct ability to be oblivious to what Finder does. Neither includes the basic ability to scan the media folder for changes like Picasa, Winamp, WMP, wxMusik, MusikCube (just to name a few that i have personally used).

Do you understand now or do i have to (figuratively) speak slower.

Oh crap, your mind will probably explode from trying to understand that phrase, just ignore it.

I'm not sure how the condescension adds to the discussion, but whatever.

iPhoto works differently than Picasa. Just because another competing program has a feature does not mean it was easy to implement or should be implemented. It also doesn't mean that it will work within the concepts and implementation of iPhoto. Also, the fact that Picasa is free does not speak in any way to how much resources Google has put into it.

Apple obviously wants you to work on your photos within iPhoto. They are not going to focus on features that make it convenient to access your photos in Finder. That is why they made the library into a package.

This decision has benefits. It allows iPhoto to load photos previews faster than it would otherwise, because it can maintain centralized databases with thumbnails, Faces data, and other information. Picasa has to store this information across multiple folders, and rescan for changes whenever each folder is accessed.

It isn't "stupid" to do it one way or the other. There are trade-offs. And conveniently, the consumer gets to pick which way they prefer by choosing the program they want to use.

Seo

Search engines can't read text that has been converted by iWeb into images.
We need the ability to insert HTML code in the page at a location of our choosing, such as into the Header or Body. As an example, the ability to insert LINK TEXT, so search engines can see our outbound links.

You use iDVD? Really? Over QT, iTunes or VLC?

I don’t understand this comment. Even if you thought iDVD was for playing DVDs, it would make no sense. QT and iTunes don’t play DVDs. DVD Player (oddly enough) plays DVDs.

  • Turn iWeb into an HTML, CSS, JavaScript (if not more) editor
  • Combine iDVD with iMovie (I'm iffy if this would really be good)
  • Make them 64-bit
  • Add iTunes as part of it again and 64-bit it!
  • :apple:

Okay since I like to edit my vlogs for youtube, and pretty much mainly I use iMovie 09, iMovie HD, and FCE

for iMovie '10 I would like to see new features that is totally brand new, not from other editing softwares, and also bring the HD effects and stuff to the iMovie '10 app.

and iPhoto, make faces much easier. lol :p

FYI, iTunes DOES now have a watch folder.

It's in your iTunes Music (or iTunes Media) folder, under "Automatically Add to iTunes".

Add an alias to this to your desktop or where ever, if need be and there you go.

Apple's site tells you NOT to make an alias of the folder and instead to drop the songs directly into the folder. Im wondering if i can add an alias of my existing music folder to this, then when i add music to my Music drive it will be added to the alias in the Automatically Add to iTunes" folder as well.
I'll test in a minute. If it doesnt work like that it doesnt really have any useful functionality, its basically the same as draggin a folder of music to the iTunes icon in the Dock.

This feature requires the folder to be in the same location as your iTunes Music or iTunes Media folder. Do not move this folder or use an alias or shortcut to redirect iTunes to look in a new location.

i expect a bigger facebook/flickr integration in iPhoto, and hopefully for them to like undo whatever they did to iMovie. jeez

Doesnt work. The only benefit to this is if you want Transmission to move your downloaded music to the "Add" folder when its done downloading. Other than that you might as well just drop the folder on iTunes' icon.

It doesn't sound like they don't want you to make an alias of that folder somewhere else, but not to make the "add to itunes" folder an alas to another folder or drive elsewhere.

I'll have to play around with it later.

I'm very happy with iLife '09. The only thing I would ask for is full 64bit. Speed speed speed!

Definitely the ability to manually move photos around in a different order. I had roughly 500 photos scanned onto a DVD dating back 10 years and imported them on my mac. I painstakingly had to put them in order before sending them off to be scanned and some of them still came back out of order on the DVD.

In order to reorganize them, iPhoto 08 uses a ridiculous method in which you have to number each photo manually. A drag and drop method (similar to the new apps organization method in iTunes 9) would be great. When I read that they didn't change this in iLife 09, I decided to skip the upgrade.

Sigh, maybe in iLife '10 or '11.

After Safari, iphoto is the application that I use the most in my mac and that I love the most.

For its next version, I would like to see is an improvement on the importing process. I want iphoto to scan new images as they are imported and try to tag all the faces its sees, or at least help me tag them.

Iphoto suggests other photos where a person´s face may appear , you are supposed to click to confirm that person (or double click to "unconfirm"). If I dont double click a face, i see it suggested again and again. Why cant iphoto assume that if I did not click to confirm someone is because is not him.

Also the "places" feature is a bit ackward for me. i tried it a couple of times but it was frustrating. I think they could make the process better.

Also, give me the option to rotate my images without them being duplicated to the "modified" folder inside my library (to kkep the library size small)

Have you tried the "Sort" options in the View menu. The "ridiculous method" that you reference would only be if you are sorting by title. There are other options.

The most common option would be to sort by date. You can adjust the approximate date and time of each picture since they are probably off since they are scans.

I mostly want a "household" feature for iPhoto. It's a nuisance and a waste to duplicate the iPhoto libraries on the multiple computers in our house. I want an easy way to have the master iPhoto library and then share that to multiple computers in the household.
