A Home Media Server type setup would be awesome for that. Perhaps the Apple TV could morph into that, though having it as a software package that could just use one computer to serve the media would also be nice. There were rumors at one time, I believe.

You can load a library over the network, but of course having two computers access it at the same time causes all sorts of issues. A media server should be able to overcome those types of issues.

I've read some about the Windows Home Server and wondered about that for a Mac setup. I'm not sure it's what I want specifically, but it's an intriguing idea coupled with iLife and iWork software.

I want:

- OpenCL optimizations
- Blu Ray support in iDVD
- Better music DVD support in iDVD
- Usable slideshow export from iPhoto to iDVD (music DVD)
- Good bass support in GarageBand, including lessons
- More GarageBand lessons
- Better iPhoto face detection
- Release ASAP with all these features

Nonsense. Picasa handles it just fine, and Picasa is free. iTunes is also too stupid to scan a folder for new songs, so i suppose its logical that iPhoto would also lack the ability to scan a folder.

I would have to agree here. I think the IPhoto/ILife team at Apple should definitely look over Picasa really well and implement some of the features Picasa has. Right now I find myself bouncing back and forth btw. IPhoto and Picasa for different photo related tasks and features. How cool would it be if IPhoto matched the best features in Picasa and then raised the bar a few notches on top of that.

More Royalty free music is what i really want, the ones we have are great, but im running out. And i would really like some ones that can repeat easily.

This is top of my list too. I haven't delved too deeply into iPhoto, but what would happen with editing? Would the original stay on the server and the edited version stay on the client? If so what happens if you want the edited version to replace the original?

Picasa (Google) scares me, who knows where your stuff will show up :

11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive licence to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. This licence is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the Services and may be revoked for certain Services as defined in the Additional Terms of those Services.

11.2 You agree that this licence includes a right for Google to make such Content available to other companies, organizations or individuals with whom Google has relationships for the provision of syndicated services, and to use such Content in connection with the provision of those services.

11.3 You understand that Google, in performing the required technical steps to provide the Services to our users, may (a) transmit or distribute your Content over various public networks and in various media; and (b) make such changes to your Content as are necessary to conform and adapt that Content to the technical requirements of connecting networks, devices, services or media. You agree that this licence shall permit Google to take these actions.

Seems like Google has the rights to do with your material anything they want. Google has relationships with just about everyone, so they all can get your content. Even worse it doesn't prevent Google from SELLING your works and you get NOTHING.

Do they do this? I don't know, but just having that wording in the contract makes me cringe.

64 bit

I hope that the whole suite becomes 64-bit for Snow Leopard.

Also, iMovie should include support for multiple titles at the same time as well as including a feature to zoom in on the travel maps so you can see the locations more clearly when they are close.

iDVD should have some new features - none since iLife '06

So what about Blu-Ray movie playback support?! I have to imagine that the imminent iLife '10 will support Blu-Ray movie burning... It had best be 100% 64-bit too, including iTunes! Front Row needs to go 64-bit, but that's probably timed with the next Apple TV update... Not to mention DVD Player and Grapher...

iLife has never supported DVD playback, so Blu-Ray playback is unlikely.

actual expectations.. for a change.

I'm really disappointed that most people on the 3 page long thread had nothing that they wanted from ilife 10
OK lets sum up:
-imovie should use more formats and be able to export in native quality.
-Blue ray support
-enhancements in the way iphoto reacts with the finder.

let me add to that:
-Put a genius kind of feature in iphoto that detects photos with similar 'Moods' and puts them in a slideshow!
-More cool, crazy transitions for those slideshows.
-Ya a blogging tool would be nice.
-more support for multi-touch (i discovered some more support in iphoto while cropping pictures, would love more such moments)
-Way more efficient faces and places support (obvious I hope)
-Cover-flow in iphoto (cmon now!, long overdue! thought apple was obsessed with it!)
-More effects in garageband.
-more midi support in garageband (think electronic music.)
-Better support in imovie for audio. Multiple audio tracks are a pain right now.
-I think the concept of dragging and dropping clips works well in imovie, but it should get like a proper timeline, with multiple tracks to make audio easier. (just change the look of the top-left part... not such a big deal!)
-A feature, where when I drag picture into iphoto it should ask me if it should automatically delete them from their original location. ( I don't want 2 copies of everything.)(want something similar from itunes, which usually creates another copy of everything I add to the library.)
-Surprise me!!:apple:
-few more filters and transitions in imovie (obvious actually)
-64 bit, openCL etc etc (obvious i Think)

iWeb redux

I like that Wordpress allows for adding blog entries on the iPhone. I want an iWeb app too that allows for editing on the fly. I would like for more statistical information about the people reading my blog. Also I'd like it easy to port my blog to other blogs such as blogspotter or wordpress. I'd like more widgets. The program itself is very glitchy...it likes to lock up on me. I'd like more social networking integration with all their programs in iLife too. I think THAT is the way of the future for iLife.

Folder monitoring for iPhoto '10.

Absolutely. In fact they should just change the whole file structure to be like Picasa. I like iPhoto's features better, but the way Picasa handles folders locally and across the network is superior, IMO.

FYI, iTunes DOES now have a watch folder.

It's in your iTunes Music (or iTunes Media) folder, under "Automatically Add to iTunes".

Add an alias to this to your desktop or where ever, if need be and there you go.

Don't know about anyone else, but this hasn't worked all that well on either of my Macs, unfortunately.

Its because its not a "watch" folder, its just a drop point for importing music into the library. Its the most ass-backward way of implementing a simple feature i have ever seen. It is, in effect, the same as dragging a folder of mp3s onto the iTunes icon in the dock. Apple is not happy unless their apps control every aspect of your media collection i suppose.

Could you point me to the explanations of how iPhoto filing approach works?

This is something I had a serious problem with when I switched to OS X earlier this year, but the cats here on this forum were very helpful in explaining iPhoto's approach, to the point where I completely moved away from Picasa and just let iPhoto do what it wanted with my pictures. I just keep a copy of my pictures on an external drive if I want to share folders with others.

I'd like to figure it out, too. Thanks.

Multi-library syncing in iPhoto would be my top priority, if I had to pick one feature upgrade for the iLife package. I currently use iPhoto Library Manager, but it just doesn't feel intuitive and it has a few quirks that leaves me some duplicates that i don't care for.

Second pick would be plug-in support for iMovie. I miss the old 3rd party plugins you could get. I guess i should try out Final Cut Express... I just haven't gotten around to it yet. iMovie has been so easy to throw together a fun and good looking movie that the family enjoys.

More than a wish - a dream

I would love to have an iApp function i iLife-10, so I could make my own apps, both for private and for business. Something like a combination of Pages and iWeb - what a cool thing to do for us creative non-programmers. In general, everything that can make it easier to produce Apps :) This would be extremely funny and also pull Apple lightyears ahead of whatever competition.

I'd like to see them really improve iWeb. I'd like to see support for some of the effects that are in HTML5 and CSS3 put in their templates and the effects that Apple uses themselves on Apple.com

iLife 2010 hopes

Ok, here are my iLife 2010 hopes, and I hope these are read by influencial apple staff,

iPhoto -
-The ability to edit / modify files right from the OS's directory structure, not having to go through their database
-fancier movie / transition abilities, such as those shown in apple demos using core animation, with a large black screen with all your photos stacking up into buildings, etc, then the ability to add music, to make a presentation.
-General speed improvement, and the ability to clean up your library of images that haven't been used for years, such as a compressing / archiving feature,

iMovie
-Additional Codec support, additional transitions, maybe the ability to purchase add-on transitions / codecs from the iTunes store, or an iLife equivalent store
-More controls for lighting, sound, advanced multi track sound support, the ability to handle / control different camera angles along the same timeline
-Faster rendering speeds, and the ability to harness a server farm, or share the CPU / Ram / Hard drive space of the other macs on the network, so that rendering happens much faster, similar to how distcc shares the compiling load across multiple machines in Linux.

iWeb
-More Themes, including the ability to design your own themes, in an easier way than what exists now, including importing themes from sites like oswd.org, etc, so you can import existing css sets into the system
-The ability to purchase additional themes / updates / plugins from the iTunes store, similar to how Rapidweaver has plugin support that you can purchase
-Additional SEO tools, for marketing your site, and making sure it's standards compliant (integrate the iWeb SEO Tools features into the program itself)
-A standard place to put google analytics code
-The ability to switch to raw html mode, so you can see the code and make manual changes if necessary
-A good form builder, to create forms for input on sites
-integrated e-commerce capabilities, to sell things from an iWeb site
(some of these could also be sold as an iweb-pro tool, because apple to my knowledge doesn't have a professional equivelant to iWeb. I know most people would probably move to Rapidweaver, or Dreamweaver, but I'd like to see iweb Pro, etc)

iDVD
-More themes,
-the ability to design your own themes,
-the ability to purchase new themes from the iTunes store,
-faster rendering, shared processing load of the systems,
-tighter integration with iPhoto and iMovie so that you can create the movie with the DVD menu all in 1 step, then click the render / publish button once, then walk away and come back with a DVD sticking out of your tray

Garage Band
-More instrument Training, such as string instruments, etc
-perhaps a way to import sheet music from other sources like PDF files, then have that music be played to you, or have a way that the system could teach you how to play that song
-more cross importing support from other music editing programs (this might already be in there, I don't know if it is, I don't use Garage Band that much)

Those are my thoughts, what do you all think?
:)

Chris

I opted for iLife09 and found it wanting in a number of ways, so much so. Apple would really need to add some serious bells and whistles before I'm tempted for it.

iWeb, long the forgotten redheaded step child, deserves some serious updates. It had potential to be a great app, but its slow, lacks serious features and produces some very unfriendly SEO code. Lack of plug-ins and themes really limits its appeal. iPhoto is the same, they added face recognition, and ignore some other features that would have extended the product, instead of adding gee-whizz features.

iWeb do it best

That's a damn good idea. Windows Live Writer is an awesome blogging tool, and it's time that Apple created its own.

I don't know if you ever used iWeb often but it DOES make blogs and do it good. It is actually more a blog maker than a website so do speak. Its tools allow to publish video, photo, stories and even podcast.
before judging the product should people ever test it!
