Mines the Same

For ****s sake, just speed it up please. My library is a fraction of the size of most of you and yet itunes constantly beach balls. Album art takes forever to display when scrolling down through the collection.

Nothing else on my MBP is even remotely slow like itunes, even my 40GB Aperture library.

iTunes is by far my slowest app on my MBP.

The iTunes folder needs to be where the rest of the music and movie folders are. iTunes should know that movies go In to the mac movie folder. Mac should also make Folders for music videos and audiobooks and tv shoes etc. I made those folders myself however. The iTunes folder should contain no actual media and just the library files and whatever else it needs to function.

I'll add this as well. Build in an auto backup feature for the library database such as lightrooms.

How about some kind of favorites list or shopping cart where you can save apps/music that you've just discovered, and are waiting for the funds to arrive so you can buy them?

I've used my Amazon shopping cart that way for years - perhaps I get around to buying stuff, sometimes I end up deleting it. I think that would be useful in iTunes.

Yes, way too much of the swirling beachball. And clutter? The interface looks like a bad website HTML 3.5 from 1995. Fix it, already!

There already is a Shopping Cart feature. To enable it, got to: iTunes Preferences>Store>Select "Buy Using a Shopping Cart".

iTunes is unlikely to go Cocoa anytime soon, mainly because Cocoa apps are much more difficult to port to Windows and Apple has (presumably) invested a lot in the cross-platform GUI toolkit that they use to make the interface.

But Safari is Cocoa on Mac and is ported over to Windows (with a more windowsy UI and feel in general, I must say. And it is good.)

The old 32-bit Carbon app just doesn't fit in the shiny new 64bit Snow Leopard. It's one of the most used apps for Mac and I'm sure there are more iTunes users than Safari users on PC as well. Apple won't let this be the tar in the honey pot of SL.
___

I'd like a bit more cramped interface. No use for the title bar, so just move everything upward. It could fit more. Some kind of multi-touch support in music playback would be excellent. Updates that no longer need you to download the whole program.

And although I never use it anymore, a new UI for Windows.

I wouldn't expect a full Cocoa app any time soon. Unlike Safari, iTunes has a lot of stuff be rewritten because it does so many things.

I agree with you that the title bar is too big. The title bar should be reduced in size and take some visual cues from Quicktime X. For example the buttons don't have to be so large and change the yellow info box.

I agree with everyone who mentioned speed should be a priority. I find myself performing syncs with my Touch less and less often due to the "beachballing" and freezing up I tend to encounter. And, possibly because I'm an idiot, I feel the iTunes store really needs to tell me in a clear way that the music I purchase is DRM free. Sometimes it says "iTunes plus" or whatever and sometimes it doesn't. Does that mean it has DRM or what? I just buy from Amazon's MP3 store every time just in case.

I don't feel like writing a Windows version of that server guide, but if enough people say otherwise, I will.

If I knew Cocoa, I'd make my own media player and put in all these requests.

It seems to me that iTunes was built just for music and other things have been pretty messily added on.

I think they should have a horizontal bar with "Music / TV shows / Movies / Podcasts / Audio Books / Apps" (user can pick and choose what is displayed) on a bar at the top of the screen and the rest of the window is tailored to that type of media.

That's neat, but the blue doesn't really work.

IMO, the current UI is great.

Music, movies and TV shows can be dragged and dropped to a standard playlist, thus creating a wishlist. :)

iTunes 9 wishlist
iTunes server app
Multi-room playback, ala SONOS
A filter bar, like Aperture

I forgot about this one, but I hope they bring back integration with Front Row at some point, like back in Tiger. It was great to be able to switch seamlessly between the two.

AH! Thank you! :D

I've only had a Mac since October, and have only been using iTunes since June, when I got my Touch. I'm still amazed at how easy OSX is, but my Windoze mind usually looks for a much more difficult solution, since that's what I'm used to...

Okay - but I was interested in something to save apps. However, with the above comment, I now have a solution for that.

I'm so appreciative of how easy it is to get answers to my questions here at MacRumors. What would we do without message boards?

I'm not expecting much from the iTunes team. They've been constantly able to churn out slow, bloated crap.

They should really work on the performance. It takes way too long to add files to the library and overall the software is slow. They really should also take out that "oh this is not the same library now your iPod must be erased" ******** if you've selected manually manage music.

iTunes Store should get a total overhaul, it's pretty much a usability failure all the way. I find it actually easier to buy apps and music on my iPhone than using iTunes.

When Apple created the iTunes and App Store on the iPod touch and in the real iTunes for that matter, they were not expecting that they would do it in the first place. Because of this, they had to just fit in the new sections and a little new design anywhere they could. But now, a year latter, I think they know that they need to redesign the iTunes Store. Maybe, give it a new name too?

I remember Apple saying to developers that they shouldn't be the one app left on a user's machine that is holding it back from being fully 64-bit. So taking that advice for themselves, I'm betting iTunes 9 will be out around the time SL is released, and it'll be fully Cocoa and 64-bit. iTunesHelper already is 64-bit.

Speed

Flac Support

Itunes server support. Yes, but really sync features so that if you store your music/content on a NAS or server you can automatically add this new content to any other machine's library. This would then allow an ATV to do the same an not need itunes to be running for streaming.

A different folder Option for movie storage from the itunes music folder.

I know you can make movie playlists as well as combo playlists but the interface needs to be cleaned up a little. Maybe break the playlists area into three sections. Audio Playlists, Video Playlists, Combo Playlists. At the very least an icon to the left of the folders that indicates audio, video or combo and the ability to then sort by those icons.

The option to crossfade when manually selecting a new song. You can already set it to crossfade up to 12 seconds when a song finishes completely, surely the option to crossfade when choosing a new song before the previous one has finished would be possible?

My Rio Karma used to be able to do that. I'm surprised iTunes and iPods still cannot.

And making it faster is obviously important!

That's not happening. Apple has built the UI of their whole OS around the looks of iTunes. I don't have a problem with the the design as much as with the speed. To even have it to be bearable I have to turn off the Genius suggestions. There is nothing more painful than trying to scroll through the applications section if you have a lot of apps.

This speed issue needs to be addressed. It is now even slower than Office. No native Mac app should be this slow.

iTunes really needs to go 64-bit Cocoa. Without that, I feel like SL is incomplete...
