If they do add any new features like that, they better make it so it does not look like it was just thrown in there, like half of the features look.

Not happening. iTunes is already too bloated. For me, it just feels wrong to put any video clips in iTunes.

Plus, it's called "iTunes." A tune is a sound, not photograph. We've got iPhoto for photos, iTunes for music, but no video browser other than Finder. I'd write one, but I don't know Cocoa.

Bloated? How would one more section under "Library" that says "Videos" make it bloated? It's really a needed feature for a lot of people.

I think by bloated, Shake 'n' Bake meant that it looks like most features were just thrown into iTunes and do not belong there. Also, like he mentioned, iTunes was for music and has developed into too much more than Music.

There are already at least seven sections there. IMO, that's too many. There should be Music, Music Videos, Podcasts, and Audiobooks. That's it.

There should be a separate app for videos, maybe "iVideo?"

That's right. There are folders called "Movies" and "TV Shows" within a folder called "iTunes Music." The iTunes developers had no idea what they were getting into.

So you would like a separate app for movies/videos, and a separate one for your iPhone? I think the additions to iTunes are great.

Apple should rename iTunes to iMedia, because that's all it is. It contains all of our media stuff, so it should be named as such.

I think iTunes 9 will be a pure Cocoa app (both 32/64bit), the development for it started when they finalized iTunes 8.0 and that's back in Sept '08.

iTunes did feel a bit faster after the 8.1 release, so maybe they are doing some performance overhaul for iTunes 9. I expect a lot of speed for it, no GUI changes (reserved for X), possibly more interaction between iTunes and iPhone and probably Intel only as well.

Why on earth would they call it iTunes X? X is Roman numerals for 10, hence OSX being Apple's 10th version of Mac OS.. QuickTime X being the tenth version of QuickTime.. I highly doubt they'd skip a whole version.....

You do realize there is no Quicktime 8 or 9? They shipped two versions to name it Quicktime X possibly because QTX is a complete overhaul of QT.

So people have reasons to believe that it could be skipped to X if it is truly completely overhauled codebase.

In my opinion, Apple like to use X for products that aren't based on yearly release and '10 for yearly like iWork and iLife.

Tim Van Damme's iTunes store redesign

That's ugly. It looks like he took the design of Google's Chrome and pasted it on iTunes. The blue color doesn't match the blue that Apple uses in iTunes. The top menu also duplicates what is on the left side, it makes no sense to me at all. If they go with the top tabs bar, the left sidebar will be changing in context to whatever tab you're in.

Have you seen the iTunes store lately?

Looks like good timing for this thread

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/08/08/apple-itunes-9-details-blu-ray-app-organization/

BGR is citing a reliable source as saying iTunes will carry Blu-Ray support and will have some social media aspects like Twitter/Facebook/Last.fm support. It will also allow better managment of iPhone and iPod touch apps.

It seems like iTunes is about to get more bloated unless they have been rebuilding it into a faster 64-bit Cocoa app all along *fingers crossed*.

Am I the first to say it?
Marble UI
Test it out in iTunes before sending it out in 10.7 :D

iTunes 8 Grid View already did that. And Mikhail, what I'm saying is:

Neither does the current store's blue.

Navigation is already really messed up, and yes the sidebar would change, why is that a problem?

I was thinking about saying that in the first post, but thought people would focus more on Marble UI, than iTunes.

Also, it appears we are already seeing the Marble UI in Safari with the new loading box and RSS box.

Oh, I understand what you mean now. The store is totally inconsistent in everything when it comes to the philosophy of Apple's design. Apple is known for simplicity, beautiful design and just works. Both iTunes and the store is in complete opposite of that.

All I'm saying is that mock design isn't any better than the current design.

Somewhere back in past versions, Apple decided to make the Show Description window inactive. I listen to a fair share of podcasts like talks, lectures and radio podcasts among others. As I say I can't remember which version deadened the Show Description window, but its one of the most annoying features that Apple decided to do. I used to be able to copy paste some of the notes that certain podcasters create when they publish. Since whatever recent version they made this change, the text comments in the Show Description window can only be screen captured. This makes life rather tedious when one needs some notes out of there, which means retyping the notes I want from there.

A few podcasters have recently become aware of this and install their notes in the Lyrics section of the Get Info window, but I wish Apple reignites the Show Description window for what appears to be error on their part, since most podcasters seem to be unaware of this themselves.

A secondary gripe although in some sense a more disruptive aspect of recent versions, is that when I make an mp3 play roll list to burn a cd, the resultant cd has not burnt the list the way I arranged them, they always are burnt as an alphabetical list. Just why this should happen is beyond me, I never ever hit the Shuffle button, nor ever shuffle anything I painstakingly and purposely arrange my play lists in the order I want them to replay.

I should mention that this has never happened in an aif cd playlist.

FYI, Apple skipped from OS 7.6 to OS 8 to stick it to the cloners.

One thing that would be nice is if there was more multi ipod/iphone management. We have a multiple ipod household (2 younger kids). Everything is inside one master libary. Would be great if there was a way to better manage playlists (sort of by user) so that you can see who subscribes/uses which playlists. Sort of like when you plug in an ipod touch or I think Iphone it will show that device listed and then under the dropdown arrow it will show all of its currently assigned playlists. This should be here even if the device is not plugged in so you can mangage playlists etc while the device is offline. Maybe even show you which playlists are assigned to more than one device. even better is a way to restrict viewing of playlists to just those assigned to a particular device name. Thus if my Son wants a playlist or if I want to see only playlists that he subscribes to I don't have to scroll through a large list. Then if I want a new playlist I can choose to create a brand new playlist or choose an option to add any of the other playlists that may be assigned to a different device. This would sort of make it more like a multiple library view when using a single library.
