Sorry, mis-typed. It's also a PhaseOne body .... so PhaseOne 645 DF body. But PhaseOne and Mamiya (the companies) are linked so the bodies and data backs are interchangeable, and I think the P1 bodies are just Mamiya bodies re-branded. But I am using my old film Mamiya 645 lenses with the digital system.... it's complicated....

Just noticed I also had the 634 instead of 645.... sigh. It must have been a good party....

lol - that is ... for so many years, still, so in awe of the 645's. Love the medium format, but my wallet and talent are both too thin to warrant such a fine camera.

As to "why" Canon, I debated for quite a few years between many different brands, models, styles, until after talking with quite a few other shooters and reading forums, magazines, reviews, etc., and then most importantly holding as many in my hands and to my eyes, boggling about with the menus and controls, went with the 50D, which at the time I acquired it was top of line in its format. What is interesting [and sad] is that actually bought it and couple lenses on way to the last St Louis Blues home playoff game few years ago, taking youngest boy child for his first playoff game.

Funny, how years ago, when digitals where first coming out, becoming more popular, the Luddite in me railed against them,,, as I love film, how it captures the images (the science/physics behind it), and having in a B&W darkroom (and colour slides) for years. Now, hate to see how many $$$'s I'd be spending developing all the film shots that digital gives freedom to shoot, edit, delete, view on large monitor, etc. before printing the exact ones you desire. The instant feedback and gratification, ability to store and share images... awesome.

Canon 5d + 50mm 1.4.
Love it!

Almost looks like the majority of replies are Nikon users... del mine is in the sig but in short.
D7000 gripped and 8!! (don't ask they were on sale :) spare batteries
24-70 f2.8G
50mm f1.4G
105mm f2.8G VR
bunch of flashed with a total of 36 Eneloop X's

Have to say, the D7000 has been my favorite nikon body to date.

How are you liking the d7000 with the 24-70 combo? What do you normally shoot? Do find it's wide enough?

I'm using a 1DII and a 5D to go either with 17-40 f4L,28-70 2.8L,70-200 2.8L 300 2.8L non IS

Canon all the way

I use a Canon 7D, and a 30D for all my work, I have invested in the 70-200mm f2.8 IS L, 300mm f4.0 L, 1.4 Tele-Convertor, 28-135mm IS, 50mm f1.8, the plain stock 18-55mm kit lens, 550EX Flash, and of course the optional battery grips that Canon has for both cameras. Very happy with Canon as my first Canon was an AE-1 of which I still own but never use.

As I grown up with I'm stucked with Canon.

Right now I have a 1DM3 with a number of Lenses like
17-40/4.0
28-70/2.8
70-200/2.8IS (I)
85/1.2
135/2.0
300/4 IS
400/5.6
500/4

It seems to me that the real question should be "who makes the lenses that you've invested in?"

I suspect that many shooters have so much invested in their glass, that the name on the body doesn't really matter. That they buy the body that a) fits their lenses, and then b) has the features they want/need.

I think it's also save to say that bodies get upgraded far far more frequently than people dump their lenses and start over again.

Just a couple of idle $.02 thoughts....

I was close to dumping Sony, but thought about it a little. I'd be giving up my awesome 50mm, and as I already have lenses, I'd might as well stick with them.

I bought an a55 to upgrade from my a300, and I think so far I've made a good decision, where the a300 would struggle with noise at ISO 800, this struggles at more like 6400 and I'll be going to the mets game today to see how good the 10fps really is!

I have one of those, a black one! Really nice camera but haven't used it for a number of years. That's what made me choose Nikon when I bought my first dSLR but I found I liked the colours of the Canon photos straight from the camera better and changed over.

Recently upgraded from a 450D to a 5DII but can't think you want to see yet another photo of one. Was going to keep the 450D but in the end I sold it to buy a tripod as the old one wasn't up to the weight of the 5DII. Currently saving up for the 100mm L Macro.

I also have a Canon S95 that I carry around all the time, just in case.

I went Nikon because my friend was into photography and she happened to be using a Nikon D60. Kinda glad I went with Nikon because the Canon ergonomics aren't for me :)

Saying that though, it doesn't mean I am a Canon hater, etc. I know what you mean about the SOOC from Canon. It has a sort of desaturated tones right? The Nikon is a tad more vibrant. I wonder if I turn down the saturation in the picture control settings it will look like a SOOC from a MD52? :S

Olympus m4/3's here

Love my EP-2 and EP-L2 cameras and lenses from both Panasonic (14mm and 20mm) and Olympus (9-18, 14-42, and 14-150). The size and weight make it a joy to take the full set out and about.

When I bought my first DSLR, I decided that I wanted to stick to Canon and Nikon. I tested different bodies out and the Nikon had better ergonomics and felt better in my hand. So I bought lenses afterwards and replaced bodies. Even when I had my camera gear stolen, I could have swap brands but I stuck with Nikon.

+1, can't agree more with you. Bodies coming and going; the lens stay. That's the bigger part of the investment and refresh cycle is far less compares to those from body's.
Plus I believe a good lens is by far more important for a good image then the body. Better pay more for glass at the begin.

I remember that my first lens that I bought was a Sigma 70-300mm that was under $300. I thought it was a great deal since it incorporated such a wide range. When I tried out the 70-200mm f/2.8 VRI, the image quality blew me away. A 100mm less and 6 times the price, it was worth it. Since then, I've only purchased f/2.8 zooms and some f/1.4 and f/1.8 primes.

I just wished all that glass wasn't so heavy and expensive.

I have a Sony Nex-3, I love the camera, but am totally lost on how to use it. The Intelligent Auto works great though:D. I'm trying to learn, just not doing a good job of it so far.
