I just wished all that glass wasn't so heavy and expensive.

I feel and share your pain; physical while carrying and financial while buying ...

But now as my zoo of lenses is stable I can spend my pocket money on iPad's; still want to get one of those Tilt/Shift lenses from Canon though.

a few:

was a Nikon N70
moved to D70 in '04
bought IR-70 with brother a few years back (infrared)
Just bought D7000 (D70 starting to 'act up') great camera

also have a few P&S
Olympus or Panasonic Underwater
Sony T9

iPhone4
iPhone3GS (well, wife's)
had a Nikon 995 years back but the shutter was too slow, hence the upgrade to the D70.

I have always liked Pentax; my first SLR was a Pentax ME Super and I have very fond memories of it. Later, I had a Pentax P30T - the most amazingly, sturdy and rugged camera - it travelled the world with me. What are your comments on the K-5? What is it like? I know it got very good reviews. At the moment, it is one of the few I would consider if and when I decide to go digital (yes, yes, I'm still using film).

Leica M6 TTL.

Ebony SV45U.

Still shooting film! (Primarily because an equivalent digital upgrade from either of these cameras is $$$$$.)

So am I, and lovely camera; these days, I have a Leica R7 with a couple of Leica lenses (f4 35-70, and a 28-90). Love it, but a camera that demands you work at it. I used to have a Nikon F100, but that was stolen from my suitcase on a multi-legged international flight around two years ago; I debated at the time whether to go digital or not (and posted a thread on MR asking advice on the matter), but stayed with film as I had the opportunity to buy a Leica instead which I took.

Lovely camera. I liked my F100 before it was feloniously removed from my suitcase.

Tell me about the Leica M8; drool, salivate......apart from the delightful Pentax mentioned above, it is the only other camera (well, apart from the M9) that I would consider purchasing. Fantastic; I'm impressed; anyway, what is it like to use and how do you find it?

Cheers

Nikon D3100 + AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/2.5-5.6G VR Lens

I bought it yesterday and it is my first D-SLR camera.

I've used simple point and shoot camera for both digital and film in the past.

Some of my best shots in the past were from a cheap point and shoot film camera.

Got my first Nikon F in 1965. Had this rig in 1967 (I think . . . hey, it was the sixties). No later than 1968, though.

Now it's D300 with 14-24, 18-200, 85 f/1.4, and my old 55 Micro-Nikkor. A couple of years ago I sold off my old lenses: 20, 24, 28 f/2, 35 f/1.4, 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.8, 135 f/2.8. The 35 f/1.4 was a great lens. I had the 1000 f/11 mirror for a while. That was a great lens.

Still have a black F body from 1968, and an F5.

Pentax K-5 gripped with 250-600mm F5.6!

That's a beauty, very unusual indeed. It'd confound many people who would first think, oh, "L Glass", then see that it is something different.

Love the Wimberley head and Gitzo I think it is. :)

I had the luxury of having the D7000 for a couple weeks. But I ended up returning it because mine happened to have a back focusing issue. I went back to the store with a clean slate, considering another D7000 and a Canon 60D. The salesperson then introduced me to the K-5. And after playing around with all three in the store, I felt this inexplicable appeal to the Pentax K-5 and its prime lens offerings.

Anyway, here are some things I love:
- high ISO performance (one of, if not the best in class)
- viewfinder
- construction/ruggedness while compact
- prime lenses
- image quality, DR
- in-body shake reduction (IS/VR/OS..etc)
- burst shooting
- stand out in the sea of Canons/Nikons

I do wish the playback operation was faster. Zooming in/out of photos, deleting and viewing photos all seemed a bit faster on the D7000. I should also mention the compact form factor isn't always a good thing. People with bigger hands will most likely find the D7000 more comfortable to hold.

It's true that Pentax doesn't have as many lens options as Canon/Nikon. But let's be real here. I don't have the money to take advantage of all the offering anyway. Just hoping to get a wide to normal prime to go with my DA 70mm Limited.

K-5 is a great great camera. I have no hesitation in recommending it to someone with one exception. If someone is planning on moving to full-frame, I think they may as well start with a Canon or Nikon.

Down to my old Nikon D70s after selling my Nikon Stuff, Just awaiting the arrival of a Canon 5D mkII with 24-105mm lens kit which I ordered yesterday, then gotta find a nice wide angle for it.......

The 24/1.4L is Magic;) It's one of my favorites in my kit!

I, too, shoot the 5dII, 7d, and a couple of their P&S cams....the G9/G10, S95 (LOVE this lil' guy!!!), and a couple of oldies to keep in the truck, just in case... I have the SD1100 and SD450. Definitely a Canon guy...and as mentioned earlier in this thread...much of this has to do with my investment in lenses. However, my wife shoots Nikon...and she just picked up the D7000 as a second body to her D3s...and I completely agree with other's thoughts between the two (or five including Oly, Sony, and Pentax)....it's ALL about the investment in glass...WAY too expensive to make the switch. However, second hand glass DOES tend to hold it's value pretty well...kinda like Macs:)

We also shoot a lot of video...Panasonic HVX200a, HPX170 and Sony EX-1r. Looking currently at the AF100 (Panny).

It's a VERY exciting world for photography...and the money I save in developing from my film days in a year easily justifies another lens...every 6-8 months!!!

For when I can be bothered taking proper pics, I borrow a Nikon D60:

d60-600.jpg

I also take lots of pics on my iPhone 4 and some on a small point-and-shoot Fujifilm J10:

fujifilm-finepix-j50.jpg

Panasonic Lumix TZ8. Was going to get the TZ10 but although its the newer model with GPS built in, the photos aren't quite as sharp as the model i have.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II & Canon Lens EF 85mm f/1.2L Mark II USM

how often im using them...? once a year...! hahaha... :D

Canon lover, but no hate for Nikon.

The interface and layout of the controls seem more "Mac" to me. Nikon seems more "PC". So I stick with Canon because the controls make sense to me. Same reason Nikon people stick with Nikon?

I stumbled into Canon territory by complete chance. I was going to buy my first digital snapshot camera, an Olympus 4MP, when the day before I was going to buy, Canon released their Canon Powershot S50 5MP camera. So I went with the Canon, it was a MP higher for the same price. Was very happy with the interface, the feel, so when I finally turned "pro-ish", I went with the Canon 20D 8MP.

I'm now rockin' a Canon 60D 18MP and a Powershot Elph 100HS 12MP.
Both shoot 1080P video!!! Got the kit lens 18-135mm, an old sigma 10-22, a pretty crappy tamron 75-300 (fuzzy), and the cheap canon 50mm.

Canon 600D with an 18-55mm and 55-250mm still new to SLR photography but quickly getting the hang of it, and loving it :D

Funny I feel the same....but the opposite.
Though partially due to using Nikon for years.

But i usually try and hold a Canon every so often. and maybe i only hold the low-end models (I too dislike the low-end Nikon controls).

But Canon and Nikon have quality cameras.

I'm still rocking the Canon 5D (not the mark II) with my 24-105 lens. I played around with the Nikon D7000 last weekend when I was in Best Buy, and I was quite impressed. Although it would be pretty tough to get rid of my full frame sensor 5D and 24-105.
