I have always liked Pentax; my first SLR was a Pentax ME Super and I have very fond memories of it. Later, I had a Pentax P30T - the most amazingly, sturdy and rugged camera - it travelled the world with me. What are your comments on the K-5? What is it like? I know it got very good reviews. At the moment, it is one of the few I would consider if and when I decide to go digital (yes, yes, I'm still using film).
Cheers
I had the luxury of having the D7000 for a couple weeks. But I ended up returning it because mine happened to have a back focusing issue. I went back to the store with a clean slate, considering another D7000 and a Canon 60D. The salesperson then introduced me to the K-5. And after playing around with all three in the store, I felt this inexplicable appeal to the Pentax K-5 and its prime lens offerings.
Anyway, here are some things I love:
- high ISO performance (one of, if not the best in class)
- viewfinder
- construction/ruggedness while compact
- prime lenses
- image quality, DR
- in-body shake reduction (IS/VR/OS..etc)
- burst shooting
- stand out in the sea of Canons/Nikons
I do wish the playback operation was faster. Zooming in/out of photos, deleting and viewing photos all seemed a bit faster on the D7000. I should also mention the compact form factor isn't always a good thing. People with bigger hands will most likely find the D7000 more comfortable to hold.
It's true that Pentax doesn't have as many lens options as Canon/Nikon. But let's be real here. I don't have the money to take advantage of all the offering anyway. Just hoping to get a wide to normal prime to go with my DA 70mm Limited.
K-5 is a great great camera. I have no hesitation in recommending it to someone with one exception. If someone is planning on moving to full-frame, I think they may as well start with a Canon or Nikon.
