I'm holding out for a 16", but will go silver. My understanding is that the space gray/gold/etc are all coatings that could wear away, while silver is basically close to the raw aluminum and could hold up better.

If I'm wrong about this though someone please let me know since I might go space gray instead in that case.
I'm super curious about the potential wear of the space grey/gold colours too. I've heard that space grey shows up scratches more easily and can wear in the palm rest area from rubbing.

Would love for someone who has personal experience to give us a head up :)

A small number of users have reported discoloration where their hands rest, but as far as I know there is no evidence that the coating can wear away. I wouldn't worry about it. Just be careful not to expose the laptop to chemicals or things that can scratch it and you'll be fine.

Ordered a silver MBA... I have space gray on my work MBP for years now, and everyone at work also has space gray MBPs... so for me personally, space gray starts to become kind of boring... so I went back for classic silver for my personal MBA.

I’ve owned Space Gray since it came out - iPhone, iPad, Mac Mini, and a few laptops.
I have not seen discoloration.
One of my iPads had a deep scratch and it was still gray. And my phones, on the edges had silver color showing from scratches and a dent. (I don’t use a case)

All of the colors, were slightly a different gray.

I'm still using a silver MacBook Air from 2013, but when I can afford to upgrade it I'll buy a gold model. It's a lovely warm shade and as @KPOM pointed out, seems almost chameleonic under different lights.

It's always disheartening to read that some people feel bound by some kind of 'rules' about which colour they're allowed to like/buy/wear… Especially with regards to devices from the company who encouraged us all to Think Different.

One thing people haven't mentioned here is resale value in 3-5 years. Silver/space gray will hold up fine, but the other oddball colors will generally bring a bit less. Not a massive difference, but could be a $50-$100 difference later.

Silver this time around. Had a couple of tries with Space Grey, looks better but turns to hold scratches much more over a long period of time.

This one should have been a poll but I strongly suspect the result would be SG > silver > gold.

I am using a 2015 Macbook Air. If I were to buy the new Air, I would definitely get the gold. Really like the rose gold tint.

I really like the Space Gray, but man does it show dirt and fingerprints!!

Went with navy blue lol

I know skinning isn’t for everybody but pretty happy with it
