same as OP, late '08 MBu 2.0 GHz 2 GB RAM no backlit. Had it for 6 months, then wound up going to school requiring me to get my current MBP(see sig). Man, I love this thing. Ended up switching schools(same degree) and they required me to get a dell through them(which came with some software, and some I could install on my mac), but I tend to use my MBP ALOT more. I hate how my dell has a 150GB HDD.

Nice computer but if you think your macbook runs hot you've never seen one of these!!

No my power button has always worked, although I've always had to push it quite hard for it to work. It's basically the slowness that convinced me to move on.
Had that issue, too. I am so glad I did.

White intel 2006/2007 24" iMac with 1 GIG of RAM, a 200GIG hard drive and a 1.1ghz processor. It died not long after I got my MBP, and it was a great computer actually :D

Dell Dimension 4700..

Pentium 4 3.0GHz
2 GB RAM
NVidia 9400GT (Upgrade) I think..

Yep.. That's about it..

15.4 sony vaio.
bought in 08 for university, before i became a computer nerd.. its actually pretty decent..will be giving it to my little brother to play flight simulator on once i get my 15 i5 MBP [2 weeks]

dont have much of a bad thing to say, besides the plasticy body, the thing held up to numerous drops :D

Before my MBP (which is already old see my signature), I was not even using Mac OS but an old desktop running Ubuntu Linux. I switched to mac because of the unix base.

I was running an ibook g3 500 for about seven years before my MBP. It's still functional, although in need of a decapitation modification.

Currently working on a Dell Precision M4400 for the day job and borrowing my wife's 2009 MacBook for side consulting work.

It's an odd situation here - an IT professional that doesn't own a computer, however that will hopefully change soon (next month hopefully). Will be buying a new 15" i7 MBP as soon as the contractor I'm working for pays me. I've been a PC my whole life and have wanted a Mac to call my own for many years. Now's finally the time.

Dell XPS M1330

Was a great laptop until the GPU died one week(I kid you not) out of warranty.
They wanted $800 to fix it so I said **** Dell. I just ordered a new MBP... This will be my first Apple laptop, lets hope it goes better.

wow....exactly same laptop and issue i had, mine was a month out of warranty.

8400GS....just died.

I'm issued a new laptop every three years. There really isn't any reason for me to buy my own, except for the fact that I love technology.

No kidding. I had one of the Studio XPS13's prior to getting my 13" MBP. The thing ran so hot the adhesive holding the rubber bumpers on the case fell off. Prior to the Studio, I had an M1330. Just gave the Studio to my sister and brother in law since their PC's were dying. Thinking of picking up a new hard drive and reformatting the M1330 for anything I may need Windows for.

I used to use a dell Inspiron Mini 10V but it was awful!
My dead G4 was 10 times better.

I now use a MacBook Pro 13" Mid-2010.

Before my previous MBP, I had a Dell Inspiron something or other - and a whole line of Latitudes. Corporate laptops are so boring. Glad I'm finally at the top of the IT food chain and can be different from everyone else. :)

I had a 17" Dell Precision M90. It was a beast for the time, but only had about an hour of battery life lol. After 4 years of continued use, the GPU started to act up once every couple days and I felt the need to upgrade. My lovely MBP came after once the Core i series was finally released.

I had an 8 year old Dell Inspiron 1400 Desktop PC. It was very good when I first got it, but the last 3 years were hellish with three trips to PC technician to fix major spyware and malware problems. It is so slow now as well but it served its purpose. Have had my MBP 15" i7 for 2 months now and it is an amazing piece of technology. I for one will not be returning to windows or PC's.

Before I got my MBP in '06, I did everything on my Thinkpad i Series 1200 with the 13.3" screen. I love that laptop to death, and it still works just as well as the day I bought it oh so long ago. It may not have the best specs in the world, but it gets the job done. I would gladly buy another Thinkpad without any hesitation.

+1 on the thinkpads! loved thinkpads before IBM sold them over to Lenovo

I had an old Thinkpad T30 that thing was a champ, dropped it on more than one occasion and it still (to this day) runs perfectly fine. but after the thinkpad i picked up an 07 macbook.

had a love hate relationship with that thing, lol i couldn't stand the fans revving up to 6k just so i could watch a friggin youtube video. had the worst on board graphics chip in the world. So i finally bit the bullet 2.5 years later and picked up my 2010 mbp 2.4 ghz 15 inch, and it's been okay so far.
