Not happening. Technology innovation has plateaued at Apple and at Intel. SSD and video tech too. No real reason anymore refresh everything anymore. All of Apple’s products are now commodities that only require replacement when broken or every 5-7 years when they just wear out. Pricing and reliability are all that matters now and high reliability will cannibalize sales so plan on planned obsolescence.
I totally agree with you. Let's hope my MacBook Pro Mid 2012 will survive for another year as it might be the very last OS update it will receive in October. I hope the 2020 MacBook Pro will be worthy of an upgrade. I can't believe that after almost 7 years my champ is still running fairly well.

And AppleTV. Was really hoping for an update here. Hopefully in an October event.
i think Apple switched to Apple TV app now. My samsung tv just updated and has an apple tv app built in..not necessarily need a hardware to stream shows now.
[doublepost=1568153587][/doublepost]i need the new 16inch, my 15inch from mid-2014 needs to be replaced now after 5 years of service perfectly.

October event?
Mac Pro shipping
XDR display shipping
MBP 16"
iMac Pro refresh
What else?

AppleTV update?
New Tags?

If you’re correct, it looks like October will be epic event. So much so, makes me think it’ll be 20% of your list. But one can hope...

Considering that this was not a significant upgrade, you would think if Apple was launching Apple Tags at an event next month, they would have just moved that up to this event and show it off as a primary feature for the iPhone 11. Weird. Makes me think it's not coming until Spring.

Good analysis. I bet you’re correct.

A 2019 iMac Pro update in october would be great for me, like a dream. I need an iMac Pro now but I do not want a 2 year old machine, but a refreshed one with the latest technology. I think that it is time for the iMac Pro refresh soon. But who knows.

Yes, the apparent lack of innovation weighs. But the opportunities are so obvious. Given the ever more powerful cameras in our iPhones, and the inspiration vacuum leaving us with the same only thinner, year after year, Apple should seize the opportunity and give us a sleeker, more appealing world to actually photograph. Sure, the triple lenses are amazing, but you can only capture so many young, sparkly-toothed millennials attending barbecues on urban rooftops before it all just looks like the same thing, over and over. Apple could regain it's momentum by reaching out, into the real world, making IT slimmer, making US more worthy of appearing, bearded in our slate and amber sustainable pullovers, in their mesmerizing promotional materials. They might even sculpt some of us to have actual, informed opinions or, better yet, to really be trend setters and keep our opinions to ourselves. Now THAT would be another Apple revolution! And if you've read my post this far, you know some opinions really, really don't need to be shared!

Does seem a little weird that they announced a new iPad today if they are going to announce a new iPad Pro model in a month. But what do I know?

I hope they get the new 16" MBP out soon though. I really want it.

Kinda like calculators when I went to MSU, my last Hewlett-Packard did symbolic integration, no need to upgrade for more features I'de never use. Hp's were super reliable and my old one is still working today. It would be a disaster for Apple to make things this reliable, but of course I wasn't nerd enough to have it with me 24/7 and use it constantly.

Let's take a step back. If technology is such a commodity, then it can be swapped back and forth... you can't easily swap from one ecosystem to another. They are no longer a software or hardware company... folks, they are an ecosystem company. This event was meant to keep the eyes on the ecosystem... why spend a ton on R&D for a hit or miss product that requires huge long term retooling when you can buy digital content that doesn't require infrastructure (to the same extent as hardware and software does).

This keynote and the future of Apple reflect this truth... hardware is to keep the ecosystem experience going... the real money (or at least the real profit margin) is in the ecosystem and keeping the experience one that people can still brag about compared to the Google one... (it's not the hardware, but the boasting you can do when using it... look at gamers... things are measured in FPS)

I see you’re practicing up for that remedial creative writing class you plan on attending this fall.

Was hoping to see something for the MBP. I am still using my late 2011 however, the battery has swelled up and I stopped using it. Waiting to see if I want to get a new battery or laptop. The 2011-2012 is one of their best MBP (design and specs) in my opinion; I've had no issues with it other than old battery.

I have the mid 2011 2.0GHz, and it’s been a hell of a machine. Upgraded the RAM, swapped in an SSD. Took out the disk drive for another SSD. Swapped the battery twice now. If only I could change out the screen for something higher res, I think I’d be fine for a few more years. Well, I say me, but it’s really my wife’s now. I use a 2015 MBP purchased from work now. That computer’s battery is going, but is otherwise fine. I’m no stranger to working inside a computer, but I haven’t exactly felt up to replacing that battery, given the hassle that it is... oh well work can pay for a new one.

And AppleTV. Was really hoping for an update here. Hopefully in an October event.
Agreed.

While current Apple TV 4K is totally capable, I would've liked:

Apple TV 6 Pro:
  • $249
  • A12X
  • 128 GB
  • HDMI 2.1
  • Apple designed gaming controller
  • Support for 4 controllers
  • Includes 1-year Apple Arcade subscription and Apple TV+
Apple TV 6:
  • $149 ($30 price cut and replaces Apple TV HD)
  • A10X (same as Apple TV 4K)
  • 32 GB
  • HDMI 2.1
  • Redesigned Siri remote control
[doublepost=1568156372][/doublepost]
Maybe the smaller HomePod?

RoomPod:
  • $149 (ideally cheaper)
  • Simple speaker design
  • UWB for proximity detection
  • Built-in Qi wireless charger

MBP 16"
iMac Pro refresh
What else?

I'm placing an order for the iMac pro the moment the upgrade happens... would be sad if it didn't get one after two years and if it doesn't I think that would signify it was somewhat dead in the water.

Brilliant pipeline management from Apple.

I love how Apple plays the long game. Just look at AirPods. Why rush out new colors and design when the current ones are selling so well? Release them when sales slow.

Products shouldn’t be rushed to market for many reasons, but all of it seems to be calculated.
Absolutely.
Look at the MBA. Designed to squeak every penny out of machine while holding back what should already be there for the next big thing. Air Pods great example too.

The thing about the Apple tags is, though they might and will outperform the competition, they'll only work for people with iPhone 11's and 11-Pros. Everyone else with old iPhones are SOL and that could be roughly a billion or so users. Damn...

I had a feeling we wouldn’t see an iPad Pro update today, but I was still hoping. I’m ready to upgrade my 2016 iPad Pro. I can’t decide now if I should wait for October, just in case they release a new one, or go ahead and get the 2018 Pro.

What you forgot: Apple's products need to be replaced when their owner needs more storage. The only reason I'm planning to sell my MBP 13" from 2016 is that my 256GB SSD is full. Well, another reason might be that it recently suffered the stagelight effect and needed a new screen. And a few months prior to that, the battery was swollen and was replaced. And then the keyboard had stuck keys. So I'm desperately looking for a replacement. But the current pricing structure is hard to bear, especially when living in the EU.

Edit: back in 2016 the 512GB SSD was quite/too expensive. So I got the 256GB, as I was sure that prices would drop significantly within three years. Boy I was wrong.

Has anything gone down “significantly” in price over the last 3 year or ever? Inflation drives everything up. My Starbucks hasn’t gone down in price yet either. But I do get your meaning.

Apple did, however, unveil the 10.2-inch iPad today, so it's not entirely clear why that device wasn't saved for an October event if we're getting new iPad Pro models.

They probably released the lower cost iPad now to capitalize on back to school sales.

And, still no G5 Powerbooks.

LOL! That's the funniest thing I've seen all day. :)
